Start with Little House in the Big woods. I started with Little House on the Prairie and then my 9 year old took off reading them herself. After 2 more books she realized Big Woods came first and now she wants to reread the whole series so she can go in order from start to finish. 😅

Start with Little House in the Big Woods. That is before they move to the prairie 👍🏼 it’s so good! We are on book 5 and love the series! Audio version is very good too 😊

We started with Farmer Boy, then Little House in the Big Woods. I'm glad we did it that way because Farmer Boy was all about Alonzo's family. That book made my girl so grateful for how life is now. We used the Playful Pioneers curriculum and had so much fun with all the activities.
We do the same. It's too hot, so we stay inside and school during the worst of it.
I was cleaning off my UA-cam subscriptions the other day and ran across your old channell and I was like OHHHH...now I know why you seemed like an old friend when I found you on this channel!! LOL
I want Hoopla but the weatherford Public Library doesnt offer it. I need to go get a library card somewhere else. LOL

Hahaha! Yeah, I've hopped on and off UA-cam for several years now. Too funny! Arlington gives access to 12 hoopla books a month, FYI.

My kids really enjoy listening to audiobooks while following along in the actual book. Just a fun idea I thought I’d share, for the days you might not feel like reading!

Great video. So inspiring. Start with little house in the big woods. It’s the first in the series. We listened to all 9 books from hoopla with Cherry Jones as the narrator. It was wonderful. My girls loved it and were sad when we finished. Their are sub series also. The Rose years… and 4 others I believe. Enjoy!

Love your philosophy on year round schooling. I love being able to make education and learning a life style for my children

I LOVED little house on the prairie growing up. I can’t even guess how many times I reread it. I’m excited for you to experience it with your girls!

We love the little house series! I had never read them either! We are listening to the audio books and I just saw the other day there is a whole unit study you can get to go along with the books so I'm wanting to start over 😂

We did the 100 dresses as a read aloud to discuss the issue of bullying. It was a good story

Shortly after Kennedy started it we switched gears and decided to do it this way! She's reading Bears on Hemlock Mountain now instead.

We will be doing Heidi and my father's dragon either this summer or next school year. I've read both and they're cute.

Love the little house books. Just a heads up in “Farmer Boy” (book 2) there is a part described where a student beat the previous teacher to dea** and the kids are afraid it will happen again. I skipped over that part but just wanted to give you a heads up!

Thanks for the heads up! I remember reading about that in a Facebook group I'm in, as well.

I would start with Little House in the Big Woods, however you may want to read aloud Little House on the Prairie as well before they read the rest on their own. Little House on the Prairie had some outdated language and ideas regarding Native Americans that you could discuss with your younger ones while reading. It shows their mindset at the time but isn’t exactly a good example to follow.

    • @TheHomeschoolConvert
      @TheHomeschoolConvert  Рік тому +1

Thanks for sharing that! I definitely try to have discussions about language as necessary when we read older books.

@@TheHomeschoolConvert you’re welcome! I think the Ma Ingalls character in particular has many fears and prejudices that could make for good discussion. The series is a great series and I still love it!

Weird comment I know, but my maiden name is Burgess and the "g" is actually soft like /j/, not like goose. I thought it was funny when you picked it up and I was like... What did she say? lol....... Now, comment on AO. We loved it and did it for 5 years. I would seriously recommend it.

Haha! Too funny! I’ve heard people pronounce it both ways and maybe have even said it both ways myself because I wasn’t sure which was correct. 😆 Thanks for the feedback. 😉 Glad to hear you’ve had such a positive experience with AO!

We actually had a carpenter custom build it for our space as a built-in. He was working on something else in our kitchen, and his price was cheaper than buying it pre-fab. We just had to paint it.
