‘Little House on the Prairie' Star Says She Was Harassed on Set

- “Little House on the Prairie” was the biggest thing on TV in the 1970s. Karen Grassle played Ma on the show, and Michael Landon played Pa - the perfect parents - at least on TV. But Grassle says it wasn’t as wholesome as it seemed. In her new book “Bright Lights, Prairie Dust,” she paints Landon as sexist and a bully on set, noting he was “a very complex guy.” Grassle says it was a nightmare shooting the scenes of Ma and Pa in bed at the end of the show.
Another example of why people shouldn't worship people, no one is 100% pure.
Dont put your faith in princes
Amen
So true
But we have 100% control of ourself
Tell that to the Trumpanzees.
I believe you, dear. She was and still is such a beautiful woman.
@Jacob sunneh And i'm sure you believe he was innocent. As long as he's a man you'll believe anything lol.
Idk if she's telling the truth but i find it strange she has to wait so long after he died to say it. I don't want to hear about this "she was afraid of coming out" look at Bill Cosby's situation women came fourth with it while he's alive and he's serving time. I'm in no way saying Michael was a saint and I do agree with people getting their reward when it actually happened in real time, just don't say someone is being brave coming forward about something while that person's gone being brave is facing them and getting them in trouble for their wrong doing.

Very disappointing.
Yes, I'd been looking into the end of the series' and Karen Grassle's reception towards the programme and its cast, and saw or heard NOTHING to indicate any sort of controversy.
Eight years of working closely together - three films - and not a hint of difficulty.
No decline in the working relationship, nothing.
Not going to slam her for that but will say this why not say anything when he was alive or the show was still going its crazy how when the money flows mouths shut but when the problem stops then its a problem. I always liked him as an actor and am disappointed to hear this information but completely understand and glad that she was able to tell the truth. All we ever heard was that he liked to make jokes and goof around, etc. No one wanted to tell / hear the real story.
Your confusing "the truth" with "her truth", until we have evidence its nothing more than hearsay.
@Cookie Food And you don't know anything about hollywood and what goes on.
Raunchy jokes were common back in the day : eddy murphy's movies (that I like a lot and grew up with) were full of raunchy jokes and topless women.
Sexe has always been what everybody has ever talked about and joked about in the past and in the present. Our way to talk about it changed and people want to be offended now so we'll be able to see anything from 30 years ago as bad.
The thing went like: you say a raunchy joke that you know will shock 1 in 10 and you get the laughs of the majority of your crew, then you finish shooting your scene and prosper in life doing 16 hours of work a day and manage to produce something out of nothing giving thousands of people a job.

Everybody goes gangsta until someone reveals what's in their closet.
I believe every word she is saying about him, over the years since his death, there have been other leaks coming out about him; Sexist Jokes that he said in between takes to get other actors off their game o purpose because Michael Landon thought it was funny. Walking around with a sock or fruit in his pants to simulate an aroused organ. He thought that too was funny even as the sight of him made people uncomfortable. I even heard that he was a prejudice man in real life who didn't necessary care for any Black person including the ones hired for the show. I was told he was very rude, mean , unfair and prejudice towards black actors on set. I am a person of color and found this most hard to accept but being from a Show biz connected family, I know it is fact. I still love this show though and I'm saddened he was not a really pleasant or likeable person on the set.
Before reading this I had just watched little house bloopers, in one clip M.L dressed up in a white sheet as the black cast member opened the door, he laughed hard and so did the set but you could see the black cast member tried to laugh it off, but was uncomfortable. I did not find it funny and wondered why they thought it acceptable to share that, as it is in bad taste. That says a lot too.
I am not totally shocked either. He had tons of fame and money and probably thought he was better than a lot of people.
Well, apparently he was a disrespectful alcoholic. When you do those harrasment things, they can stay for many years in the minds of the people you hurt, and then be exposed many years later. They actually stay in the minds of the people you hurt for all of their lives.
It's okay that she spoke up against the dude who was dead 30 years ago.
Thank you
She has the right to speak up and tell them thruth regardless if he was still alive or not. It is sad he Mr. Landon was not such a great person in some ways but it is reminder to us all we shall not idolize any celebrities or anyone else.
Sometimes it takes that long to get up the courage to do it. She probably couldn't do it while he was alive, because it would blacklist her in Hollywood. One he was dead, was there a right time? She would have been accused of slandering a dead guy... I can totally see why it took her so long, and I believe her 100%.
He can't even defend himself. Like fukoff
Michael Landon and Karen Grassle clashed quite often, this is not new information. She didn't want to lose her job, she had no power. His telling dirty jokes is not new information either.
Sounds like to a lot of people say she can’t speak up because the guys dead? What if she’s been horrified to keep it in all this time (which considering this happened a while ago it’s extremely likely) until now.
If that's the case, she's a coward then. It's hard to believe someone, who had at least 20 years to seek justice from the person (whom they percieved wronged them) while they were alive, but to wait until that person dies to come out with these allegations, and furthermore to make a profit from those allegations, that's just gutless and cowardly. Michael Landon can't defend himself now and I'm not going to believe a one sided story. Plus, dirty jokes don't count as harrassment. I worked on a shipping dock for four years, was only two women there including me, I heard plenty of dirty jokes, but there was no ill intent behind any of it. They were just men being men, but every single one of them would help me do anything. My goodness, dirty jokes, grow up or grow a spine. It doesn't spoil Little House for me anyway, never liked Caroline.
That’s why people aren’t always what they appeared to be.
Funny how she waited years after he died and can't defend himself

No one wrote books before he died, there wasn't even Internet really then, you read things in tabloids. The show wasn't off that long, the long 50 year LHOP run no one anticipated. When they realized it had a huge cult following and fans flocked to events, 15,000 at last one, they slowly all came out with books. No residuals from the show (a big shame) so why not? But even as a 10 year old, Karen Grassle wasn’t Ma to me. It was off somehow. Stiff and aloof. I recently read that Michael Landon and others would mock her expressions. Well, um. So did I. As a kid! When she makes the same pained, overly concerned expression when she and Mary sew the same shirt and when Mary returns from the math competition in 2nd place. “Ma! They think I won!” I remember thinking even back then as a kid that my mom would have never been so dramatic, and certainly, the real Caroline Quiner Ingalls would have either. I read also the Landon also said that she was not as popular as she thought per network polls. Well, if other kids my age picked up the same vibe, I think, he may have not been far off the mark. On the other hand, he’s the one who chose her in the first place. He’s the one who chose wrong. Why be spiteful to her over HIS mistake?
LOL what
What she said about his jokes may be dirty, but it isn't harassment.
Everyone knows he wasn't perfect and had problems.
I don't think it is every right though to slander someone after they're dead. Especially if you never said anything while they were alive.
You don't know anything about hollywood.
@@alexander2685 does anyone?
Is she slandering him? Or simply telling the truth to a man who held all the power?
I used to speak to Karen on the phone when I was raising money many years ago. Always very friendly and generous, enjoyed talking with her. You can tell a lot about someone with how they treat the people they don’t have to be nice to. She didn’t have to be nice to me but she was.
Scared of him in his physical form so you talk about him afer he dead and gone
Women were a lot less toxic and entitled than today.
Good on you for telling your story
Why bring this up now????
I don’t understand why come out 45 years later why didn’t she come out in the early 90s ? :(:(:(
It would be ignored in the 90s
@@ieatplastic1756 maybe and maybe not ??? Who knows she should’ve spoke up or quit the tv show if it was that bad ,,,, I would’ve of but she stayed so I guess it wasn’t that bad then mmmm
@@luannrgezxfhrghcdd7060 if she quit the show, huge loss of money there.
@@ieatplastic1756 like I said if she thought it was bad no money 💰 in the world would’ve kept me there ??? If that means end my acting career so be it I do something else or go to college
@@luannrgezxfhrghcdd7060 A lot don’t speak out, he probably would’ve just shrug it off and she’d get blamed. She’d lose work and a great paying job.
I just watched a bunch of interviews of you when the series came out and you didn't say anything like that you were so happy about the success!!! Don't be a part of this culture.
