With all those tourists, little is left of the show's secluded Cicely atmosphere.

I was a big fan of Northern Exposure because it was so different from standard 90's tv shows, and could surprise me. We drove our converted shuttle bus "Serenity" to Seattle (from Kentucky) to visit my daughter there. Spent a week on the Olympic peninsula, then on our way back east stopped in Roslyn. The Brick wasn't open yet, but folks working in the kitchen with the back door open said, "Come on in if you want to take pictures". Small town hospitality, I love it! I had a big grin stuck on my face walking around taking pictures and remembering the laughter they had given me. Camped 3 more nights at a National Forrest campground 10 miles north of town. Fantastic trip.

What wonderful memory. I loved Northern Exposure too. I loved all the characters that were so different than anybody I'd ever met.

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. In 2022 I flew to Seattle on my way to Hawaii. I never had a clue I was so close. Maybe some day I'll get my chance to visit Roslyn.

I visited Roslyn for the first time a couple weeks ago. My grandma who lived not too far away in Ellensburg liked Northern Exposure and I only recently got into it. Sadly the reason why we were in the area is because she passed away. I was glad to be able to stop into the town during the stressful week it was. I enjoyed this video of yours, only just came across your channel. Keep up the good videos!

I don't think Northern Exposure is available for streaming now. I bought the DVD set off EBay but it was for European use only. Who knew? DVDs are encoded that they can only be played on DVD players sold in specific regions. Back to EBay I found a DVD player that had the region encoder disabled. Now I binge watch Northern Exposure about once a year.

Wow, guess you learn something new every day. I loved that show since it was so familiar. The only show I've seen now is one about Washington State game wardens. We lived near Moses Lake for a few years and they often show that area. We camped there often. Thanks for watching the video.

    • @billwenham

I specifically bought a region free player for Northern Exposure as it's the only way you can find the show with all the original music which I knew was important for this show. So good job! I grew up in Wisconsin and loved watching this show as it always felt like I was visiting the town as it was as much as a character as everyone on the show.

By the way, Roslyn is an old German girl's name, derivative from Rosalind, meaning "Pretty Rose"

I guess that one of the places to visit is the cemetery. It's divided into 16 sections according to the country of origin. It was quite a melting pot for sure. Thanks for watching, Victoria.

Thank you for actually posting this, approx 12 month ago I was at the point where i was just about to retire from the Police here in the UK and fly out to Seattle with my family to go and visit Roslyn ( a life times ambition ), unfortunatey within weeks i suffered a stroke within days of flying out , so my like long ambition never happened, something i bitterly regret, since those days i have thought about the town many times..So seeing this great video has really cheered me up, many thanks

Thank you so much for commenting on this video. I am sad to hear of your health set back. I lost my loving husband several months ago and have been recovering from some subsequent surgery of mine since then. We used to do a lot of traveling around our state while he was still healthy enough to do it and this trip was one I asked him to make because I too loved that show. Actually it has been a lifelong ambition of mine to visit the UK. My family ancestry on both sides originated in that part of the world like so many other Americans. I have a subscription to both the British streaming options available to me here and this is my way of keeping in touch with my English, Scottish and Irish roots and I recently watched the coronation. So it may be that we have some things in common. I hope you are recoving well and I send my blessings to you and your family.

You missed the part of the mineral mining industry. The railroad wasn't built just for coal. It runs up; past Lake Cle Elum. The rail line was supposed to run to Fish lake and the mines around it. It failed with the market crash in 1889. There are many gold, copper and silver mines around the Fish lake basin.

I live here..please tourist 1)do not leave your food scraps for wildlife, our local dogs find them first and chicken, pork bones are dangerous.2)don't leave your dog poo bags along trail,we don't have a poo bag picker upper to go 5 miles to grab them.if u don't pack them out then toss poo,no bag,off trail..it will dissolve by winter.3)quit driving down coal mine trail to find shady place to park,no motor vehicles period..4)when u stumble drunk out of bars late and are walking to your vacation rental, loud drunken laughter, conversation, yelling as u walk thru residential streets remember people are sleeping, show respect and last, roslyn is NOT Vegas, your arrogant and entitled attitude at locals is ridiculous.treat roslyn with respect,it deserves it

Thank you for these guidelines. Disrespect for nature and rights of others has always been a pet peave of mine wherever you go. I lived for while near a fast food place and was amazed at the amount of food containers that ended up in my front yard every day. In my case, I had to clean up after these thoughtless people and fought vermin that were attracted to the food scraps. Thankfully, I no longer live there, but I still feel for the folks who do. Roslyn is such a great place to visit and in such a beautiful area it's sad that you need to deal with these problems.

    • @RVGrannyWA

@@RVGrannyWA I watched the shoe 15 episodes per week. This woman wanted to know if I liked the show. She had the box set. I tried to but the box set but it was a scam. My credit card refunded my money. My favorite character was Chris. I moved the director. She told me Janine Turner had a complete baby room set up but no baby. Barren.
