Hybrid Willow in a Dry Climate: How Fast Do They Grow??

When I sell hybrid willow in my nursery, I always get lots of questions about them. In this video, I illustrate how the growth rate of hybrid willow is intimately tied to the amount of water they receive. I also show just how little growth you get if you don't water that much. I also illustrate that the amount of growth you get also depends on watering the entire root zone.

They are amazing fodder for goats. I mean they are perfect if you have a like a silvo-pasture kind of setting where you chop and feed regularly harvesting and feeding your goats.

I have decided that the positives that I would get outweigh the negatives (needing regular irrigation), and I have decided to build out some of my systems using it.
Also, quick update for you, my first lucaena seeds have germinated, and some are putting on their first true leaves!

im moving to a semi desert area that has almost no green its in a sand area and it get 15in of rain a year i was wonderin if willow can help me green up and provide a quick carbon source along with shade and help build soil retention. i plan on using water to start them on and then tappering them, off after 5ish years. thank you for the information. it helps more so than you can image
