  • You can think that the title of this video is a little bit pretentious, and maybe you are right but, as far as I know, it's acurate.
Before I made the decision of getting head on into the massive rabbit hole that is designing and making this abomination, I investigated a lot to see if something similar can be bought somewhere and I couldn't find anything that has all the features I want in this device: being compact and portable, nice looking, bedroom friendly and good sounding.
The closest things I found are some really DIY projects that fall into two main categories: A) Some sort of spinning bucket or cup duct taped into a boombox or B) a Leslie replica made using the same materials and design of the original, and roughly of the same size.
Don't get me wrong, some of these projects are really awesome and are full of skill and talent but I wanted to make something really different, something that breaks with all the preconcepts of a rotary speaker in terms of size, materials and design and doesn't try to be just a scaled down Leslie replica.
In this second episode I'll remove all the supports froms the parts and assemble a key component of the unit: the rotor

Finally,... something I've wanted to be developed for ages, but with a mechanical ability that registers well into the minus category, I have never been able to realise this wish. This is a build that has been crying out for realisation for many years, because we all know that once you use a real leslie, no amount of clever digital approximation will satify a guitarist's fussy ears. Thank you for hearing many of our dreams of whirlyness, ir is it just that great minds think alike( he says modestly).

Thanks! 100% agree with you, the latest digital emulations are amazing and super convenient but this is an effect that simply is impossible to fully reproduce, even by recording of the real deal. The first time I've heard a real Leslie in person my mind was completely blown away by how deep and inmersive this amazing effect is. Hopefully with this little device more people will be able to experience its amazing characteristics in their own homes

Saludos!

Already in the first 6 seconds you broke it at least in 3 different points...., Bad and unthinkable construction

I'm happy to report that you are completely wrong. It has already been running for several dozen hours without a single failure, in fact now that the bearings have some break in time it runs even smoother. Also keep in mind that this is just the first prototype, the MKII will be MUCH stronger than this one. Keep watching the series to find out! Cheers!
Saluti!
