The gentleman was explaining to you that the locals there eat simple meals cooked up with locals veggies and produce. They don’t spend much money on food but they are very happy and it makes him strong and healthy. Home cooked meals for them are unprocessed, everything is home grown or buy from neighbors. Enjoy your day!
He was a great host and I very much enjoyed his conversations about their way of life and how they live. He was a wealth of information and I very much enjoyed his company that weekend.
How lucky to eat authentic Khmer dinner in an open sky… delicious
I definitely felt blessed. The meal, the setting and the company was outstanding.
Authentic Delicious food with friends = priceless..
I agree. Delicious food and great memories. I had so much fun.
Definitely delicious
Yes it was.
It takes 2 fingers to tangle the delicious suma -rice dinner… yummy
Yes it did and it was very delicious. Haha
Sumirise fingers with delicious dinner in the Kingdom of Wonder
The kingdom is living up to its name for me.
Those dishes look healthy and delicious indeed... kinda reminded me of my meals in Sapa.
They were very healthy and delicious. Some of the best food I've had since arriving here in Cambodia.
Is Sapa in Vietnam? I seem to remember you mentioning Vietnam a while ago in one of your videos. I'm planning on visiting Vietnam in July or August for a few weeks. I can't wait to explore it.
@@FrugalWanderer awesome.. I'm sure you would enjoy Vietnam
The food is getting cold 😂
Cold or hot. It was still delicious. Haha
0:10 Look at his shadow n also holding the GoPro 😆
Yep. That's my shadow. Also just for clarity sake. I use a DJI camera. I don't own any GoPro cameras at all. Haha. It's not important at all.
@@FrugalWanderer How much does it cost for you DJI camera bud ?
@@sokpisethlalalanno I bought them last year. I don't remember the price but it was around the same as the GoPro if not a little cheaper in Canada.
Saom we grew here in America too. To some people they dont like the smell. Like my hubby. Lol. But to those who grew up with we enjoy it. Its also use in soup too. 😊
I had no idea we have access to back home. I would have tried it before if I knew.
👍👍👍
Thanks
One finger canceled out the other one 🙀
I seem to be missing something here about the fingers. Many comments about it, but it is going completely over my head. Haha
@@FrugalWanderer you gave two middle fingers in the video
@@mimibigdy1917 ahh yes. The fingers for the camera. Haha. Makes sense now.
Sean, I was surprised to hear that you really liked the omelette with Sa-Om leaves. As the host was explaining those leaves have a very strong smell and aftertaste that can turn some people off. I like it also. But my favorite Cambodian omelette is with minced pork belly.
This is why I love trying everything blind. That way I don't have any preconceived notions about it. To me it was just greens in an omelette and it was delicious. I may have thought differently if I knew in advance.
It did have a very strong flavor, but it was one that I really enjoyed. I think everyone liked it too.
@@FrugalWanderer S'om is call Climbing Wattle in English if I remember correctly
@@sakdavith6969 thank you. I learn more every day. I never would have known that
@@sakdavith6969 Thank you. I just learned something new too.
I don't like the smell of Sa'om leaves, but once cooked, I like to eat it..😅😂😅
Most delicious food came from our poorest being creative with homegrown products…
I agree. The food they served was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed every meal we had there.
Great, but leave some for the others 😂😂😂
I promise. We shared nicely. Haha
looks good..similar to the food in rural thailand i eaten so often, probably only the seasoning that is different..simple and healthy ..
Lucky u dont get the full experience sitting with yoga crossed legged on a raised bamboo or wooden table and all the food in the middle most western men incl me have problem with that =)
The taste of the food is what got me. I was expecting a much plainer taste, but it was the direct opposite. I loved it all.
I would be ok with the yoga pose to eat, but someone would need to pick me up off the floor. I don't think I would be able to stand up on my own. Haha
@@FrugalWanderer same here..after almost 2 decades in se-asia i can sit with crossed legs but i get pain and stuck if i not drinking beer or rice"whisky" =)
The fantastic thing is the flavors..even as thailand myanmar lao cambodia vietnam have all the similar produce and herbs its the different flavors and ways to cook them that is vital and makes it unique
I never heard of rice whiskey until I was on the farm. I politely refused some because it just made me think of screech which is a home made rum in Canada. That stuff will clear out your insides faster than you can imagine. Haha
@@FrugalWanderer moonshine maid of rice..good for get drunk on and clean windows with..think we payed about 40 baht for one full liter bottle 2022 in rural central thailand at local party
Take your hat off at the dinner table !
that rule actually only applies eating inside, well in the nordic countries and most of europe anyway..even in the army where i did server 13 mandatory months
=)
I was still outside so no. Haha
In Canada I have no idea what the rule is. I forget I'm wearing my hat most days haha
How much did they charge for dinner?
Just curious, cuz unfortunately many places geared towards tourist are very inflated + food isn't exactly what they claim it is, I'm not saying that's the case here, just from background experience, and people that used to prep these foods and now doing something else ....
They were very up front about it here. The dinner was $3 each and breakfast was included. Every meal I had there was delicious and worth the money for me. Especially having the ability to eat local foods the way they are intended.
