      @@JEzra-cx7bx Hi, Can you show us how to use the 5 knobs on the microkorg (cutoff, resonance, etc...) as MIDI control knobs ? Is this possible ?
      I'd like to use the 5 knobs to control some knobs on my software plugin synths in real-time...

    • @JEzra-cx7bx
      @JEzra-cx7bx  3 роки тому

      I probably will not make a video on this due to the reason that instead of trying to program the microkorg to control parameters in your DAW, it will save you a lot of time and frustration if you use a midi keyboard. Most of the time the midi keyboard will automatically program its knobs to control certain parameters in your DAW. I'm sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for but it's my honest answer. I mainly use my Microkorg with my Talk box and for controlling my DAW I use my Arturia KeyLab 88 Mk 2. It works a hundred times better as a controller than the microkorg will.

      @@JEzra-cx7bx ok, but is it technically possible to for example control the software synth's filter cutoff with one of the knobs on the microkorg ? what's the main problem ?

    • @JEzra-cx7bx
      @JEzra-cx7bx  3 роки тому

      Oh yeah it's totally doable but too much of a hassle for me to want to try to do.
      Finding a way to be able to map the knobs to the DAW might be the hardest part but maybe once you figure it out it will be a piece of cake.

    THANK YOU for making this video! I was on the verge of buying a MIDI keyboard (I'm limited to a small/cheap one now, and constantly have to shift octaves up and down real quick... plus there's not a lot of velocity range in the lightweight plastic keys.), so imagine my delight to learn I can just buy a $20 MIDI-to-USB and use the Korg MicroKORG I've had for a few years! :D Grateful for this.

    Great video, thanks ! I have the original MicroKorg, and I am using Reaper. Reaper sees the device, but no sound. I set all values as you describe, however the "Position" dial does not provide a "PoS" value, all it provides is a value of "---". With it set like that, no sound. Have you come across this ? Hey man! Great video! I’m working in Ableton 10 suite and can’t figure out how to configure my microkorg to Ableton. I’ve watched a lot of UA-cam videos and can’t figure it out :/ any suggestions?

    • @JEzra-cx7bx
      @JEzra-cx7bx  4 роки тому

      It should work fairly the same in Ableton, I would make sure that your settings on the microkorg are dialled in right and that the settings in your DAW are correct. It took me about an hour to get it to connect and it took a lot of trial and error before I got it to work. Type in "microkorg midi keyboard " on google and search through the forums, you will eventually find one that explains how to do it for ableton.

    Thanks for the video! It was helpful. I was wondering if you've considered doing a video on how to set it up for playing the midi back into the microKorg to take advantage of all the awesome patches that thing has? Where your MicroKorg is an actual instrument that you are automating in your DAW, right? I'm pretty sure it is possible but I can't find any videos on it. Cheers!

      Hi there, I just read my reply to you and realized that I got this video confused with one if my talk box videos haha so let me try again.. ahem...
      To answer your question the best I can, I havent owned a microkorg XL but mostly any modern keyboard/digital piano/ synthesizer can be turned into a midi keyboard. If you want to turn your XL into a midi controller I would start with connecting the midi cables to your computer like how I did In the video and see if your DAW connects to it. You might also have to change the settings on your XL to "midi" if that's possible. It might take a bit of experimenting but you'll get it. I hope this helps!

    Anyone having troubles with the regular microKorg?
    Everything is set up as in the video (In-Out, Out-In, FL Studio with opened Synth as shown, Korg is set to Midi mode with all the knobs where they should be), the only thing that's different is that the spinning thing number 4 does not show PoS anywhere, just a "- - -". But it's at the same position as shown in the video. Everything else is fine.
    I'm new to all of this. Is there a way to verify whether sound is coming to the PC?
    edit: Ok obviously it's the MIDI-Settings. I have no Input anywhere it seems. A bit of troubleshooting and everything is fine.
    Thanks for the video!

      If you have access to a software like Garage Band, Logic Pro, FL Studio, etc... they come with piano software that you can use with a midi keyboard. I'm learning the piano too but I dont reccomend learning on a midi controller. A full sized piano will be much easier to learn on. Check out the William's Allegro 3 or the William's Legato 3. Those are great beginner pianos to learn on, I have the Allegro 3 myself, heres a link to my video ua-cam.com/video/nLaY8O7j0vE/v-deo.html

      I'm definitely going to make a video on this in the next few weeks.
      You're going to record the talk box the same way you record vocals. You're going to want 2 tracks. One that had the synth connected to the talk box and the other track connected with your microphone. Theres a trick to it because it creates feedback when you try to record the audio. You're going to have to mute one of the tracks (I forgot which one) for it to not create feedback when you record.

      Remember that the in/out inputs have to be connected in reverse. So the midi (in) goes to the (out) on the synth and the midi (out) goes to the (in) on the synth.
      If you already did that maybe check the settings on your synth and check the settings in your DAW.
      It could be dozens of different things so it's kind of hard for me to find exactly what's wrong in your case. Those are the 2 main problems that I can think of.

    You seem legit.
    My keyboard allows me to make tracks, and that's what I put on my channel, but I record the audio from its speakers.
    I'd like to know how I may record straight to a device, (for example..connect it to a PC) without an interface.

    • @JEzra-cx7bx
      @JEzra-cx7bx  4 роки тому +2

      I highly recommend an audio interface and DAW to record your audio. There are a lot of great inexpensive audio interfaces out in the market and using an audio interface will give you the best audio quality possible. Unfortunately I do not recommend recording straight to the computer but I guess it is possible If you have a 1/4 inch to 3.5mm female to male adapter. Then you can bypass the audio Interface completely and record the microkorg directly into the DAW.
      If you watch my "Tall Box With MIDI keyboard Without Audio Interface" video I show how to by pass the audio interface with an adapter. Heres a link to that:

      To record the actual synth sounds on a DAW you will have to connect an instrument cable from the output on the synth to an input on an audio interface. Then press the record button on the DAW and play away.

    • @JEzra-cx7bx

      After you get all your settings dialed in in your microkorg, go into your midi settings in logic and make sure you are on the same channel as the microkorg. Example; if your microkorg midi setting is set to channel 1, then set your channel in logic to 1.
      You might also have to just tweak the settings until it works. There are so many variables between different DAWs that it could be a lot of things.

But, all functions like arpeggiator, program select, cutoff, resonance and other stuff do not function, it just perform as a regular midi keyboard inside DAW. @JEzra-cx7bx  4 роки тому +1

      I got the same results as you did, basically only the keyboard worked.
      I'm sure there is a way to set up the pitch and modulation wheels and the arpeggiator. There might be a way with the microkorg application that you can download on your computer to tweak the setting and possibly tweak the midi setting to align with the controls on the keyboard but at that point it takes so much effort and so much time that I would rather just whip out my Akai MPK mini controller and use that Instead.
      This tutorial is good if you dont have a midi keyboard around and only have a microkorg, but only provides basic input to midi.

      You absolutely can, but I'm about to buy an arturia keylab 61 midi keyboard for my new home studio and I highly suggest using their keyboards because they work flawlessly with their V collection software instruments and their keyboards have the ability to control the settings on the VSTs with the knobs on the keyboard itself.
      With the microkorg you'll only be able to play the keys. If that's all you're looking for then you'll be fine but if you want more control then using an arturia mode keyboard might be a better choice for you.

      You wont be able to control the knobs on the virtual instruments with the microkorg (you might be able too but its overly complicated and not worth it in my opinion)
      Your best bet is to buy a KeyLab, the keylab essential series of midi controllers are affordable and will allow you to control arturias own software instruments. I think that's your best bet.
      It's pretty straight forward to get it set up but just search "KeyLab 61 review" on UA-cam and theres like a thousand videos going over it. Even if you dont get the KeyLab 61 it's ok because all their modi keyboards work with their software really well.
