I probably will not make a video on this due to the reason that instead of trying to program the microkorg to control parameters in your DAW, it will save you a lot of time and frustration if you use a midi keyboard. Most of the time the midi keyboard will automatically program its knobs to control certain parameters in your DAW. I'm sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for but it's my honest answer. Remember that the midi in and out are reversed and to change the settings to midi on your korg. You might also have to mess with your midi settings in reason. It could also be a lot of other things but you can start with those things.
I'm not too familiar with the Micro X so I'm not sure how to get it to work with your specific set up. The Akai MPK Mini MK2 and MK3 are great affordable options. It automatically connects to your DAW so theres no stress in trying to get it to work.
Hi thanks for the video. I'm currently attempting to add to Presonus Studio One 4. The device is registerubg as "usb midi" but can't doesnt seem to be working properly. I have everything that's needed.
It's going to be different for everyone and it took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to get it to work on mine. I would say to make sure you double check the settings on both the synth and the DAW, sometimes you just have to mess with the settings until something works.
To record the actual synth sounds on a DAW you will have to connect an instrument cable from the output on the synth to an input on an audio interface. Then press the record button on the DAW and play away.
I believe there is software specifically for loading in patches to the microkorg, I dont know what it's called but it exists. I think you will need a midi to USB in order to do that. I would search on UA-cam for this, I don't really cover microkorg downloadable patches on my channel. Hope this helps!
Use an instrument cable from the output on the microkorg to the input on your audio interface and open a new audio track and record it through that audio track.
Thanks a lot for this info! I have a problem maybe you or somebody could help me out please. I use ableton live 11 and when i plug microkorg as a midi controller, ableton live dont recognize it. Help please! thx !
I do have a question that I'm hoping someone has a definitive answer for. I was looking at picking up the Korg monologue XD module only because I want to also pick up a microkorg (original, or maybe the XL) I want the vocoder and I like the functionality of the microkorgs but I want the great features of the minilogue as well but don't want two keyboards. Can all of the microkorgs be utilized as a midi controller for the minilogue??? I could just buy a small midi controller but then I'm back to two keyboards.
You absolutely can, but I'm about to buy an arturia keylab 61 midi keyboard for my new home studio and I highly suggest using their keyboards because they work flawlessly with their V collection software instruments and their keyboards have the ability to control the settings on the VSTs with the knobs on the keyboard itself. With the microkorg you'll only be able to play the keys. If that's all you're looking for then you'll be fine but if you want more control then using an arturia mode keyboard might be a better choice for you.
J. Ezra I used to have the minilab! I sold it for the microkorg though 😂. Would it be a hassle if you could maybe walk me through on how to control said soft synths? Softwares I need, etc. would appreciate the help!!!!
You wont be able to control the knobs on the virtual instruments with the microkorg (you might be able too but its overly complicated and not worth it in my opinion) Your best bet is to buy a KeyLab, the keylab essential series of midi controllers are affordable and will allow you to control arturias own software instruments. I think that's your best bet. It's pretty straight forward to get it set up but just search "KeyLab 61 review" on UA-cam and theres like a thousand videos going over it. Even if you dont get the KeyLab 61 it's ok because all their modi keyboards work with their software really well.
@@JEzra-cx7bx I’d do this once i do get enough money! But besides that, i wouldn’t really mind not using the knobs, as i could just control/change them on the computer. Sounds tedious, but I don’t mind. Any chance how i could do just that with the korg?
No problem, if you just follow the instructions on the video you should be able to do it. If you have a specific question let me know, I'll try to help you as much as I can. Theres a link to my Instagram in the description and you can reach me a lot faster on there too.

I am not getting any signal when i use the external instrument plug-in. is there anyway u can help me out? im using Logic btw
After you get all your settings dialed in in your microkorg, go into your midi settings in logic and make sure you are on the same channel as the microkorg. Example; if your microkorg midi setting is set to channel 1, then set your channel in logic to 1. You might also have to just tweak the settings until it works. There are so many variables between different DAWs that it could be a lot of things. Let me know how it goes and get back with me
i use microkorg vocoder, connected the midi wire but only the usb signal is showing but no midi signal, i also followed you. hope you will help me, thank you very much
@@JEzra-cx7bx i am trying to connect the midi wire to the pc, i have followed your action but i have absolutely no midi signal. midi signal does not light up
Remember that the in/out inputs have to be connected in reverse. So the midi (in) goes to the (out) on the synth and the midi (out) goes to the (in) on the synth. If you already did that maybe check the settings on your synth and check the settings in your DAW. It could be dozens of different things so it's kind of hard for me to find exactly what's wrong in your case. Those are the 2 main problems that I can think of.
Thanks for the video! It was helpful. I was wondering if you've considered doing a video on how to set it up for playing the midi back into the microKorg to take advantage of all the awesome patches that thing has? Where your MicroKorg is an actual instrument that you are automating in your DAW, right? I'm pretty sure it is possible but I can't find any videos on it. Cheers!
I know it's possible but I would have to do a bit of research before I make the video. It's a little more technical than I like but a few people have brought it up so I might make one in the near future. Thanks for watching!
@@JEzra-cx7bx I’d love to see this video! Can’t figure it out myself and audio doesn’t suffice because I cannot get the bpm (using arpeggiated patches) to match the other tracks/instruments in logic
Thanks for the great content! I set mine up with Logic but am experiencing lag hearing the sound I press on the keyboard. Do you have any ideas on how to get rid of this lag?
You're talking about using the preset sounds on the microkorg as midi and recording it? If so I think it's possible but it's way to complicated for me to want to try it. What I normally do is just plug my microkorg into my audio interface and record it as audio.
There is probably a way but way to complicated for me to want to do. If you are already using a DAW like ableton, FL or logic they have built in vocoders you can use with midi and setting those up will be a lot easier and faster.
I honestly thought it would be the same fro both the original microkorg and the microkorg s. But you and a couple other people seem to have the same problem on the origional microkorg, my guess would be to try and see if it works even if the " pos" is not set. When I get my hands on a original microkorg I will troubleshoot the problem and most likely make an update video.
This seems to be a problem that a lot of people with the regular MicroKorg have, I would say just try skipping that part and see if it works. Let me know the result if you can.
@@JEzra-cx7bx Thanks! After several plug in and out, and tweaking, I'm finally able to use microKORG as midi controller on GarageBand. But, all functions like arpeggiator, program select, cutoff, resonance and other stuff do not function, it just perform as a regular midi keyboard inside DAW. Is it possible for microKORG to take over those functions from DAW?
I got the same results as you did, basically only the keyboard worked. I'm sure there is a way to set up the pitch and modulation wheels and the arpeggiator. There might be a way with the microkorg application that you can download on your computer to tweak the setting and possibly tweak the midi setting to align with the controls on the keyboard but at that point it takes so much effort and so much time that I would rather just whip out my Akai MPK mini controller and use that Instead. This tutorial is good if you dont have a midi keyboard around and only have a microkorg, but only provides basic input to midi.
thanks for making this video. btw, do you know any free software to use with the midi controller? I wanna lean how to play piano using the midi controller
If you have access to a software like Garage Band, Logic Pro, FL Studio, etc... they come with piano software that you can use with a midi keyboard. I'm learning the piano too but I dont reccomend learning on a midi controller. A full sized piano will be much easier to learn on. Check out the William's Allegro 3 or the William's Legato 3. Those are great beginner pianos to learn on, I have the Allegro 3 myself, heres a link to my video ua-cam.com/video/nLaY8O7j0vE/v-deo.html

I bought a MIDI wire a month ago, and i can't make it work :'(
Hi there, I just read my reply to you and realized that I got this video confused with one if my talk box videos haha so let me try again.. ahem... To answer your question the best I can, I havent owned a microkorg XL but mostly any modern keyboard/digital piano/ synthesizer can be turned into a midi keyboard. If you want to turn your XL into a midi controller I would start with connecting the midi cables to your computer like how I did In the video and see if your DAW connects to it. You might also have to change the settings on your XL to "midi" if that's possible. It might take a bit of experimenting but you'll get it. I hope this helps!
Hey man great video! Question for you: How do I set up my MicroKorg in Logic Pro X to record the sounds that come in the synth? Also is it possible to use those sounds as MIDI?
I'm definitely going to make a video on this in the next few weeks. You're going to record the talk box the same way you record vocals. You're going to want 2 tracks. One that had the synth connected to the talk box and the other track connected with your microphone. Theres a trick to it because it creates feedback when you try to record the audio. You're going to have to mute one of the tracks (I forgot which one) for it to not create feedback when you record.
Ah sorry, I'm so used to answering talk box questions. You can set up the microkorg to record it's own sounds with midi but I dont know the steps on how to do that. I would start with the midi and clock settings on the microkorg and the midi channel settings in logic. That's my best bet on where to start.
Hey J. Ezra. You seem legit. My keyboard allows me to make tracks, and that's what I put on my channel, but I record the audio from its speakers. I'd like to know how I may record straight to a device, (for example..connect it to a PC) without an interface. Do you by any chance know how I can do that?
I highly recommend an audio interface and DAW to record your audio. There are a lot of great inexpensive audio interfaces out in the market and using an audio interface will give you the best audio quality possible. Unfortunately I do not recommend recording straight to the computer but I guess it is possible If you have a 1/4 inch to 3.5mm female to male adapter. Then you can bypass the audio Interface completely and record the microkorg directly into the DAW. If you watch my "Tall Box With MIDI keyboard Without Audio Interface" video I show how to by pass the audio interface with an adapter. Heres a link to that: ua-cam.com/video/2VZaCkkGVus/v-deo.html

But it's at the same position as shown in the video. Everything else is fine. I'm new to all of this. @@JEzra-cx7bx 👌🏾 I already mentioned that above, I have 2 already.
Oh damn I straight up didnt see that haha my bad
Mine doesn’t show the “post option just 3 blank lines
Hi thanks for the video. I'm currently attempting to add to Presonus Studio One 4. The device is registerubg as "usb midi" but can't doesnt seem to be working properly. I have everything that's needed.
It's going to be different for everyone and it took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to get it to work on mine.
I would say to make sure you double check the settings on both the synth and the DAW, sometimes you just have to mess with the settings until something works.
How do you record the actual synth sounds from the microkorg instead of using it as a midi?
You will want to connect the microkorg to your DAW.
I’m wondering the same thing . How does one connect the micro korg to a DAW?
To record the actual synth sounds on a DAW you will have to connect an instrument cable from the output on the synth to an input on an audio interface. Then press the record button on the DAW and play away.
Can I do this through my Scarlett? Or do I need a Midi to USB? Trying to load new patches.
I believe there is software specifically for loading in patches to the microkorg, I dont know what it's called but it exists. I think you will need a midi to USB in order to do that. I would search on UA-cam for this, I don't really cover microkorg downloadable patches on my channel. Hope this helps!
@@JEzra-cx7bx thanks for the quick response! no worries man. I appreciate the video, just started tracking with it in ableton after viewing. props man
Yea okay but how do you record the internal sounds on the microkorg s into the DAW?
Use an instrument cable from the output on the microkorg to the input on your audio interface and open a new audio track and record it through that audio track.
Thanks a lot for this info! I have a problem maybe you or somebody could help me out please. I use ableton live 11 and when i plug microkorg as a midi controller, ableton live dont recognize it.
Help please! thx !
It Works with microkorg XL?
Great video, now how do I get it out of MIDI Mode?
I do have a question that I'm hoping someone has a definitive answer for. I was looking at picking up the Korg monologue XD module only because I want to also pick up a microkorg (original, or maybe the XL) I want the vocoder and I like the functionality of the microkorgs but I want the great features of the minilogue as well but don't want two keyboards. Can all of the microkorgs be utilized as a midi controller for the minilogue??? I could just buy a small midi controller but then I'm back to two keyboards.
So i can control software synths such as the prophet v from arturia?
You wont be able to control the knobs on the virtual instruments with the microkorg (you might be able too but its overly complicated and not worth it in my opinion)
Your best bet is to buy a KeyLab, the keylab essential series of midi controllers are affordable and will allow you to control arturias own software instruments.
Theres a link to my Instagram in the description and you can reach me a lot faster on there too.
so i bought the same midi to usb cable from the link but in the “Midi Destination” it says “USB Midi” and not microkorg or something like that. I put it in the opposite way like u said. I am not getting any signal when i use the external instrument plug-in.
is there anyway u can help me out? im using Logic btw
No problem, what is the "midi destination" that you're talking about?
its the external instrument plug-in that comes with Logic. You can choose Midi destination, midi channel, input #, and input volume.
Let me know how it goes and get back with me
Hi man, if it’s possible to record the microkorg sounds as midi ? I can’t figure it out
Hi! Some people have said that it is possible but I have not tried it. If I find out how to I'll make a video.
@@JEzra-cx7bx oh man, I’ll thank you so much, I’ll keep an eye in your chanel!
Thank you! 🙌
Can I use microkorg without Daw?thx!
Yes, the microkorg is primarily a standalone synthesizer.
i use microkorg vocoder, connected the midi wire but only the usb signal is showing but no midi signal, i also followed you. hope you will help me, thank you very much
What are you trying to do with the Vocoder?
@@JEzra-cx7bx i am trying to connect the midi wire to the pc, i have followed your action but i have absolutely no midi signal. midi signal does not light up
Remember that the in/out inputs have to be connected in reverse. So the midi (in) goes to the (out) on the synth and the midi (out) goes to the (in) on the synth.
If you already did that maybe check the settings on your synth and check the settings in your DAW.
It could be dozens of different things so it's kind of hard for me to find exactly what's wrong in your case. Those are the 2 main problems that I can think of.
Hi my po5 on the position bit just shows '- - -'. any Idea why?
You might have to make sure you are able to write over the existing patch. Try pressing "WRITE" and then changing the settings.
turn lower wheel to global, then it will work with position
Do I have to do something specific for the knobs to work on the midi?
hey great video. how do i raise the volume? do i do it through the daw??
Yes
Thanks for the great content! I set mine up with Logic but am experiencing lag hearing the sound I press on the keyboard. Do you have any ideas on how to get rid of this lag?
You might want to adjust your buffer speed
Thanks for the advice!
Is it possible to use the setups you have on the microkorg itself to create the sounds that youre recording?
You're talking about using the preset sounds on the microkorg as midi and recording it?
If so I think it's possible but it's way to complicated for me to want to try it. What I normally do is just plug my microkorg into my audio interface and record it as audio.
Can I hook it up to my PS4
Will the vocoder work through the midi?
There is probably a way but way to complicated for me to want to do.
If you are already using a DAW like ableton, FL or logic they have built in vocoders you can use with midi and setting those up will be a lot easier and faster.
@@JEzra-cx7bx ok thanks for the info
How did u get postposiotn set up? Mine just has the 3 lines. I hsve the original microkorg
I am using microKORG, cannot turn to "Pos" no matter how I tweak the peg 4. Can you give me some suggestions? Thanks.
@@JEzra-cx7bx lower wheel to global, then it works

Not getting anywhere with Cakewalk ?????
how can I do this on logic pro?
i think its all the same but lmk if its not
I also have a microKork S. Would this also work with Garage Band?
Yes, it should work as a generic midi controller for most mainstream DAWs including Garage Band.
J. Ezra awesome! Thanks for the info man!
thanks for making this video. btw, do you know any free software to use with the midi controller? I wanna lean how to play piano using the midi controller
If you have access to a software like Garage Band, Logic Pro, FL Studio, etc... they come with piano software that you can use with a midi keyboard. I'm learning the piano too but I dont reccomend learning on a midi controller. A full sized piano will be much easier to learn on. Check out the William's Allegro 3 or the William's Legato 3. Those are great beginner pianos to learn on, I have the Allegro 3 myself, heres a link to my video ua-cam.com/video/nLaY8O7j0vE/v-deo.html
This is so helpful. Thank you!

Hello! Nice video and explanation man, Thanks. i have a question, can i still use the sounds from the microkorg with this set up?
hi, thanks for the tutorial, I hope you´ll see my comment, i really need your help. i've followed all your steps, but, I see your mk turns on the shift key when you chose the MIDI edit, mine not. i don't understend why. if you can tell me what i'm doing wrong, i'll be so thankfull. I bought a MIDI wire a month ago, and i can't make it work :'(
Do you have the OG model or the S model? If you have the OG model it could be a slightly different process than the S model.
thank you so much this helps a lot!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Hey J.Ezra ! Thanks a lot for this nice explanation ! I was wondering, do you think it will work with MicroKorg XL ?
@@JEzra-cx7bx thanks a lot for your answer and your time, I will try that out in a month ! 👍🏾
This really helped me and l am grateful.
of course I put The in into the In and vice versa 😅 so thank you so much
Hey man great video!
@@JEzra-cx7bx I more meant the preloaded sounds on the Microkorg. Does the same concept apply?
Ah sorry, I'm so used to answering talk box questions.
You can set up the microkorg to record it's own sounds with midi but I dont know the steps on how to do that. I would start with the midi and clock settings on the microkorg and the midi channel settings in logic. That's my best bet on where to start.
Nice video!!!
Thanks! worked with older version
I'm glad it worked out! Thanks for watching, there will be more videos out soon once I move into my new music studio!
Hey J.
Heres a link to that:

but unfortunately, it's a Yamaha YPG-235☹️ do you think it will still be able record to a device with/ without interface?

Anyone having troubles with the regular microKorg?
Everything is set up as in the video (In-Out, Out-In, FL Studio with opened Synth as shown, Korg is set to Midi mode with all the knobs where they should be), the only thing that's different is that the spinning thing number 4 does not show PoS anywhere, just a "- - -". But it's at the same position as shown in the video. Everything else is fine.
I'm new to all of this. Is there a way to verify whether sound is coming to the PC?
edit: Ok obviously it's the MIDI-Settings. I have no Input anywhere it seems. A bit of troubleshooting and everything is fine.
Thanks for the video!

Hi Ezra, thank you for the video. It helps me a lot. But i have further problem here. When i record using the microkorg in Logic Pro, it seems the sustain won't release. Especially when I start playing chords. Do you have any ideas on how to prevent the unwanted sustains?
I would start by checking the midi settings in Logic. Besides that I have no idea what it could be. Sorry if it wasn't too much help, a lot of this stuff is trial and error. It took me a while to find out how to even connect the microkorg through midi.
