  • "Caught in the race against time, the pit and the pendulum..." 1989 Supremacy Champion and one of the freshest DJs ever, Philadelphia legend DJ Miz (Sakini Moultrie) definitely felt the heat defending Aladdin's DMC US Title in March, 1990. His was not the first set ruined by equipment error, but this one is especially painful to watch considering how revolutionary the opening routines are.
    Thanks to Itchy Mark for this classic upload.

    WOW! This takes me back to my youth, before Serato, Record Box, Pioneer DJM S7, 9, 11’s, Rain 70s and Reloop Elite’s! Back when DJs actually had to dig through crates, physically flip records and use tape or marker to set there own cue points on the wax itself.
    I can watch this for hours, and reminisce !

    It could happen to anyone. First year, a DJ is on top of the world, and the next year, they stumble. Even the most talented DJ in the competition can choke. And if anyone thinks that it's difficult being the first DJ to perform, it's even more tougher to defend the title, especially if you attempt to try your newest trick, and it doesn't pay off. Poor Miz.

    I think the 1990 & 1998 us finals are the most complete events as the standard was so high. However The 1990 us video is weird as they credited Tray Ski when it was Diamond Jay. Named Miz as defending when he was 1989 defending runner up. And also removed the announcements for the top 3.
    I'm also curious as to why Aladdin never returned to defend his title .Although he may have been busy touring or recording his Low Profile album.
    Did you rip your content from vhs or dvd as your content is so clear ( All my vids had macrovision protection which made it difficult to get a clear rip ) And do you have any rips of Cutmaster Swifts Uk final 1988 or dj pogo or dj excel 1997 uk final?
    Thanks for sharing.

    • @MichaelShum

      I think the '91 US Finals deserves a shout too--Q-Bert, Rectangle, Baby G, Steve Dee, Pumpin' Pete, Supreme, Boogie Boy, Exotic E, and Eddie Fuentes

    • @MichaelShum

      Michael Shum Or did Joe Jackboy become Exotic E in 91' when he had the ski mask on?

    • @MichaelShum
      @MichaelShum  7 років тому +2

      this was clarified in another thread -- jackboy was the midwest champ but didn’t show for the US final (apparently, he pocketed the dough DMC gave him to get to NYC) -- exotic e was the southeast runner-up to diamond j that year, and the top 2 finishers in each region got to compete in the final

      Aladdin in that 2000 showcase was super DRUNK. So It doesn't count. Plus most of those attendants that night didn't care about that because they know he has already paid his dues as a real world DMC champion from 89" that got cheated out by NY/Philly Djs. Remember Cash Money: "I am not going to defend my title, i want to judge". That was to cheat out Aladdin from a world title. NY was at a major rivalry with L.A. at the time, and under no circumstance were these east coast scratchless cats going to let a Dj from Compton like Aladdin take the world throne.
