lyrical phrasing is super underrated, throwing in too many words in your lines makes them feel so unnatural

You ain’t lying, that’s why I try add short lyrics and longer lyrics for balanced rhythm.

I’m just learning this. I’ve been writing music for maybe 5 years now. I personally think I can write some good lyrics, nirvana was the reason i picked up the guitar and my inspiration, it definitely shows in my earliest stuff. I have a more unique sound now. But my point is rap didn’t come as naturally😅the learning curve is actually nuts. From flow 2 phrasing 2 mixing. It’s whole different world. I’d use every syllable I could and rhyme every bar with hardly a flow. It’s coming tho. Y’all talented out here, respect to anyone who can make ur head nod❤🤞🏻

I’ve also learned that if it doesn’t quite fit, you can play with the melody to make it fit.

This was one of my first struggles on my journey to become a lyricist. I added too many words/syllables in most lines and had to learn to shorten my bars. I was only 12 though and learned this early on. Keep it going Rap Coach! 🔥

This is what I try to tell new rappers myself. The reason why they do that is because they feel they aren’t getting their point across because putting those extra words makes them feel like people will understand them better but reality they’re overthinking cuz they feel it isn’t deep enough in reality they’re saying too much. Instead of saying it’s a darkened room understand people will feel that without you saying it.

thanks for making this, hits home with certain things im working on in my arts.. it reminds me of taking 1 on 1 vocal classes vs being in a choral… the main difference was flow and fluidity of melodic phrases and timing breaths… so doing trills through your phrases with out stuttering.. but in choral flow doesn’t matter as much because others in the group will fill in the hiccups(or bad phrases of the individuals). but as a solo performer (unless you intentionally do staccato: abrupt/ twitchy/ rhythmic stops) you want to be connected to your full body sound and have that tone present in throughout the phrases.. can you (or whom ever) trill through a phrase without stopping or hiccuping from one word to the next.. sounds should be forward with out any strings hinging them back but rather like a long floss string constantly pulling out the lyrics in one direction ( like magicians with that infinite hat trick).

When lyrical phrasing is on point the song naturally registers in the listeners ear after the first time. I feel like this is what makes Drake's music so catchy. Thanks Coach for always dropping gems.

How do you do your rhymes? Do you write them out or just rap and punch your vocals in?

You can apply your method to sales pitches in construction and estimates. Keep it short. The less words the better.
