Sam Cassell 😂 I played against Sam my junior year in HS. When he played for the legendary Baltimore Dunbar Poets… The pump fake, the foul line pull up. The trash talk lol . He played the exact same in High School. During that era in Baltimore HS he wasn’t the toughest guard I faced (I didn’t stop him, lol, I knew he couldn’t jump but that pump fake, and his mid range was crazy… he’s taller than people think also closer to 6’4 ) He was always a smart player always played with heart, and could score. Great leadership skills I also Remember Sam putting up like 35 in a half in some Jean shorts and Reebok classics when he rolled up on a summer benefit game DC v Baltimore… Steve Franchise and Lonnie Harrell were playing for DC … Sam was in the league and won two chips … He went off … crowd went off Not Surprised that when Steve got in the league Sam went at him. Respect ✊🏾 for Baltimore and DMV 🏀 culture!

After Hakeem, Franchise was the one who really made me not only a Rockets fan but a basketball fan. Never could afford to buy his shoes or jersey haha but man, he brought so much excitement and highlights when we were crap and when we got better with yao. His combination of handles (that left to right hang cross), vertical (44 in.), that hang-hesi into his midrange, & crazy finishing while jumping into contact with opposing bigs was revolutionary from the pg position at the time. Him and guys like iverson, starbury, and baron really made the 2000s amazing and paved the way for guys like DRose, Russ, and Kyrie to take it to another level. In hindsight, it's a real bummer that when steve really humbled himself under the coaches after Rudy T, he was never rewarded. JVG admitted he kinda killed Steve's game by having him on an insane leash and allowing him to only feed yao in the post, and Rick Adelman chose Rafer over him when Steve was showing potential for a higher ceiling at the pg, even at such a late stage of his career. Really it was that first year in Orlando that we saw Francis at his peak, free to play HIS game, and man was he incredible. Him, Cat, Grant Hill, and young dwight & jameer weren't a bad core at all. But then the magic went and traded cat for doug christie bc they thought francis and cat weren't good together ...

I grew up a Kobe-Shaq fanatic but I always enjoyed their duels with Steve Francis, Paul Pierce & T-Mac.
