When Benedict asks if Anthony is going to duel his own brother it finally brings to the show what is in the books, that Pen is family to the Bridgerton’s and I love it
Violet hugging Penelope, who looks like she’s about to cry, is so f-cking sweet and tragic at the same time, especially after the comment that her most comfortable memory was Sunday Tea with the Bridgertons… Violet is the mother[-in-law] Penelope deserves. 😢
Anthony’s objections actually make complete sense. It’s made obvious in the books that all of the Bridgerton’s consider Pen as one of them. She’s allowed (as is Felicity) basic free rein in the house. Anthony even walks Pen home and has nice, brotherly conversations with her. I’m actually so happy they included this bc the closeness of Pen and the family isn’t as pronounced in the show as the books.

I am so surprised to know that some people are mad about what he said, it wasn't even an objection more of a realization of how clueless he's been. I thought everyone would find it cute since it's clearly just a funny moment between the brothers
With the Penoloise break up being the constant debate on the fandom it just goes to show that for women a bestfriend break up has to be the most traumatic and gut wrenching break up we will ever experience in our lives as women. And the hate isnt on the characters but rather so many women who still haven't healed form their own breakups who are probably projecting.
Why are you surprised that no Bridgerton knew about Penelope being in love with Colin ? Every Bridgerton lead has not known they were in when they were CLEARLY IN LOVE!! Violet is the only Bridgerton who knew her children were in love before they even knew 😂 geez the Bridgerton’s are dense lol

Yeah but all the other stories the couple had recently met, in Polin's story they had known each other since Pen was 8... That's a lot more time to not see something 😂
Not gonna lie, Whistledown announcing it the very next morning, when presumably to the rest of society only the Bridgertons and Featheringtons would know… pretty sussy, Pen. 😂
Sus indeed 😂 and I think she slipped up a lil bit in episode 2 when she told Colin it would "look suspicious" if Whistledown didn't report her getting help from Colin 🤔

I have a feeling when Colin figures it out & follows her to the printer, it’s going to be him putting together all these little clues throughout the whole season, playing them back in his mind.

I'm so glad you mentioned the lack of nuance with the fandom, it's been exhausting, like are all these critics such perfect humans who never lied, pretended to be someone they are not, or acted in a vindictive way? Besides, it's more fun when fictional couples have to overcome some issues, like them just being happy is nice but it is much nicer when it comes after angst!
Agree 100% on the nuance - I genuinely understand the viewpoints of Penelope, Colin and Eloise. They all have valid feelings in this situation. Honestly, aside from Simon's Dad in S1, there aren't really any true villains (except maybe Lord and Lady Cowper).

I don’t know if it’s intentional or not buy I love that this season is exploring the sort of arrogance that comes with a friends to lovers trope. The characters in this relationship usually have this idea that they know each other well enough to marry as soon as they confess their love for each other, but the truth is they haven’t gotten to know each other to that level yet. There’s just something so…delicious about exploring that dynamic and the arrogance that comes with that.

I also like that it’s subverting the general romance formula, where the tension and driving force of the plot reside in the “chasing”/ pre relationship phase, which ultimately culminates in a happy ending

I think he finds out when she has the cloak but she promises to give it up and the writes anyways which makes him angry which is very book coded.
Anthony and Benedict basically saying, “you better treat her right, or it’s pistols at dawn!” I definitely gave my younger brother that exact same talk on his wedding day. 😂

I think the main issues people are having is that because of past seasons build up Colin's arc is a lot more subtle compared to his brothers. Probably cause this season is kinda focused more in penelope than him.
7 mins in and I realised, if I'm not wrong that cloak on the settee is Pen's which she used while going undercover to deliver lady whistledown's writings. So this is after colin comes to know the secret and he shows her he still loves her- in front of the mirror✨

The comments on Hyacinth & Anthony have me pining for a side plot for them next(?) season where she (and Gregory!) struggle with their place when Anthony becomes a father! He’s all those babies ever had besides their mom (the others being real big sibs vs parents) and it would be PRECIOUS to have that as their introduction into the show limelight + to see Anthony processing he’s got this fathering thing halfway down already because his firstborn isn’t his first. It’s his THIRD proper child, because Greg and Hyacinth are his firsts!!! 😭💕
Lovely! What a great idea! I'd love to see that on the actual show. It gives way for more sibling scenes which we all love when we get some.
Actually, Eloise would be his "first", considering she was like 5 when Edmund died, at least in the book and there is a really beautiful moment between her and Anthony that I'm hoping will be taken in consideration by the writters for her season. When she says "so many times you were my father when you should've simply be my brother" and I think it's a really well done set up for their relationship, because what she has with him is less playful like with the other siblings and more "obedience", respect as like an authoritarian figure and drives them apart a little bit which helps Eloise's character perceptions in parenthood.
Colin promised Eloise he would stop bringing Pen by the house for the charm lessons and then as far as Eloise knew Pen ran off after Lord Debling to get her proposal so for Colin to haul Pen into the drawing room in the middle of the night to announce that they’re engaged is SUCH a mindfuck for poor Eloise. 😂

Here are my thoughts:
Colin: I agree that he is going to feel lost because he feels like he needs to protect Penelope. However, he might also be struggling with his life purpose. He may see that Penelope has found her purpose in Whistledown, but he struggles to find his and that might create some resentment. What he needs to understand is that the reason she can take care of herself is because she has had to. She didn’t have a loving family to rely on like he did. He needs to make her understand that he is never going to leave her, that he is her partner, and that she can depend on him.
Penelope: She has had Portia dripping poison in her ear all her life. She has always felt that the only one she can truly depend on is herself. She also feels that if she tells Colin about Whistledown he is going to make her give up her dreams, ie Portia poison. Colin gave her what she always needed by sticking up for her in front of her mom. She needs to trust in Colin’s and realize she is not alone anymore.
Hopes: What I want is for Penelope to encourage Colin’s writing, he will then have a purpose and he will be more supportive of her endeavors and I want Colin to get her far away from Portia, when she is away from Portia and realizes that Colin doesn’t want to control her but wants to love and support her, she will be a lot happier.
I feel that these two have the possibility to one of the strongest marriages if not strongest marriage of the Bridgerton clan if they can understand each others needs and support each other. what do you think?
I am counting the days until I’m able to see the roasting of Portia featherington. Love her but she needs a little dragging after what she’s been saying to her daughter.
I agree ! I love and despise Portia at the same time that's a bit weird 😅 or should I say I love to despise her? I don't know, it's this strange mix of feelings.
I think it has a lot to do with Polly Walker, she's a great actress.
A lot of the hidden bits of Polin's wedding and the shot of Colin "sleeping on the couch" in their new home is pointing to Colin not finding out about LW until after they're MARRIED and if that happens i'm gonna be furious
I really hope when she says "I have always loved you" it is the season's love declaration. It was the Bridgertons saying it in the past seasons but I think it would show how Pen is already so close with the family that it doesn't need to be Colin.
No. The book's beautiful love declaration comes from Colin. It's my fave one.

I have a theory! The 'spicy' scene we get a glimpse of in the trailer will not be the mirror scene, it will be their first time scene.
I think the beginning of that scene might play out similarly to the 'mirror scene' in the book, where he describes the fantasy then says 'later'.
THEN later on after the Whistledown reveal is cleared up between them, we will get the ACTUAL mirror scene!!

That's what I like to think too ! Even if I have to admit as time passes and more hints are being dropped, I tend to think that, well, the mirror scene is probably going to be in episode 5... but I want to hold on to my lil' rope of hope 🥹 (and delusion maybe 😅😂) until I get to finally watch the episodes.

I completely agree with you if the made it more than 8 episodes so they would show the actual struggle of Colin coming into terms with Penelope’s other identity and how they deal with Cressida’s lies and confrontation
Hope you feel better you are a trooper! So excited for the Colin analysis!!! He is one of the more complex character and on every rewatch of the show i find something new about him! One thing i kind of missed and only realized recently is that Colin lowkey (highkey) has a substance abuse problem in season 2! He is drinking in most scenes, and kind of drowns his sorrows in it! He almost uses it as a coping mechanism bc everytime he talks about his purpose and how he feels lost he is drinking! When that fails, he trays out a new personality in S3 as another coping mechanism. I truly hope the writers do him justice in part 2 and delve into his journals to really highlight his struggles because while I get him so deeply I can understand why his character is lost on the General Public (or more like on people who arent insane and have not rewatched the show 1000 times) .
I don't think this "I've always loved you" in the trailer is the first love confession anyway. My guess is they first exchange I love yous in episode 5, probably as part of the mirror scene. So when she says it again in the church it gets less of a reaction from him.

As for Colin's character analysis, I would honestly be happy with either of the options as long as you are feeling better for it. You don't have to push yourself in one or the other direction.
Definitely do a character analysis after part 2! Just 8 more days (I'm in Dubai so it's the 5th already)
I am dying to see your Colin analysis video but please do it when convenient for you!! Also, might be interesting to wait until after part 2 anyways cause that line of him saying “then what good am I to you?!” When he wants to help Penelope, I mean, I can’t even imagine how insane that convo will get and how much more insight we’ll get of him as his hero complex goes at war with his sense of betrayal after finding out Penelope is lying to him. I think it would enhance whatever you’ve put together for his analysis.
I suspect the discovery of Pen’s secret will come when she submits her last edition to say good bye to LW. The Cowper thing will happen, then at the wedding and not the engagement Pen’s rebuttal will take place & the wedding will have the consequences of the engagement in the book. Presuming they follow the rules of the ton at that time. Colin confessing to his brothers his intimacy with Pen will mean he could never back out without complete dishonour. Totally ruinous for him & Pen could sue him for a breach of promise. All good fun.

Love your reaction. I agree about wanting them to really hash it out and it doesn't seem like they will. I don't want them to just move right past the fact that she has always loved him. That news would really affect sweet sensitive Colin. And I wish she would address all the times he has unintentionally hurt her. I did not love that apology in part 1. Mostly, I just hate that so much of this "romantic" love story is being made to be about Whistledown. We love the history they have and so much of it should be talked about but there will be no time for it because of the Whistledown of it all. Like I'm tired. Let them be happy and love each other, please.

I also think it makes makes sense that Anthony specifically didnt know/made that comment! I think the three people that were likely to be the least surprised were Mama Bridgerton, Eloise and Maybe Benedict bc they attended almost all the balls up until this point this season. Mama Bridgerton's reaction is great, eloise's reaction makes sense given the circumstances, and im really hoping that scene with Lady Arnold and Benedict will go along the lines of her asking him if this was completely out of the blue and for him to say something like "im shocked it happened now but not surprised bc they always have seemed to seek each other out". Anthony has been away this season, last season he was too focused on his own stuff (understandably so) and in season one he was focused on the sienna/daphne situation. The way the brother scene is cut in this trailer leads me to believe it was part of a longer conversation and im hoping they touch on Colin's cluelessness to his own feelings!
Yes, I definitely hope the scene with the ABC brothers is long enough and substantial. I agree with you, I want Anthony and Benedict to ask Colin about his own cluelessness, and see the brothers having a nice long talk together. Of course we love the romance part, but the sibling scenes are something we are all looking for because we love this family and their interactions so much.
Very interesting this idea of lady Arnold asking Benedict if he had any clue about this relationship, I'd like to see that happen.
I think it makes sense for other people in their lives to not have noticed their budding relationships in terms of character arc/development. Both Penelope and Colin live in the shadows of their siblings and parents. No one pays attention to Penelope because she has the lowest prospects/no one expects her to be desirable on the marriage mart. Colin is ignored (relatively) by his family because they are more concerned with getting the older brothers and younger sisters married first. To me, it makes sense that no one really noticed them falling in love, and no one expecting the little Bridgerton brother/least marriageable Featherington to get married.
I don't think it's "lacking observation" as much as it's people putting their focus in other places.
In particular, part of Colin's character journey is stepping out from behind the shadow of his brothers, differentiating himself from the other Bridgerton boys, and developing his own personality. Anthony brother is the viscount. Benedict is the artist. But who is Colin? He's trying to figure that out.

I’ve tried to work out the timeline for part 2 and i simply am confused as hell….so much to come but so little episodes.

The “he can’t possibly love you if he doesn’t know…” phrase hit me in a weird way. Aside from the obvious meaning… Eloise basically broke up with Pen when she found out. Does she also mean by that that she doesn’t love her anymore since she knows “the real” Pen? …
Sometimes you have to keep a certain distance from people you love because you are hurt. I think Eloise shows her love for Pen is still there when she asks Colin how is she doing, saying she doesn't want Pen to be friendless, just not close to her. Their love is still there, but there's too much pain and hurt in the middle of it that neither Eloise nor Pen has yet dealed with. I'm excited to see how the show will mend their relationship again.
I have a feeling when the clips of announcement card trays come out and surround Polin on the dance floor, it may be during their engagement party, or the next ball event after that? Penelope hears people’s reactions, becomes upset, walks away from the crowd to process in private. Colin observes her behaviour in that moment and finally suspects that Pen is Lady Whistledown. Everyone is dying to know who she is, but Pen isn't acting "normally".
Maybe that is the extra thought behind his smile when she says 'I have always loved you Colin' in the church.
I really hope they have a proper heart to heart conversation before the wedding, so they can fully enjoy the celebrations... I hope that weight is finally lifted before she walks down the aisle.
I really really love this series, but ever since I realized that they'll always go for the drama, maximum effort, I've decided to just sit back and enjoy.
I think you are most definitely right about the piece of furniture they're gonna have their first time on.
Little SPOILER ahead (you've been warned):
I just saw a short in which Luke said the fact that the furniture broke is included in the actual scene, also they laughed as it happened, and Luke said them laughing because of it is also included. I quote his words : "we also laugh in the moment like it was written into the scene, it's a beautiful moment but we also laughed in real life when we broke the furniture."
So as they broke the furniture the scene was rewritten to keep them laughing in the moment and I find that absolutely funny/adorable/endearing/hilarious/hot/crazy. I literally cannot wait to see the whole scene

You change the story if Colin questions that Pen always loved him... In the book, he simply says "I know" and then it explains how he always knew (although he doesn't say it to Pen) but does fully express his feelings
I think Colin in the book knew deep down that Pen loves her but never analysed it because there were 10 years gap between the 1st book and Colin's book, he bound to notice at any time given the years Pen had feelings for her. My guess will be when he declared to his brothers rather petulantly how he would never marry Penelope Featherington & Pen walked right into that conversation after having tea with Eloise & the others. Judging by the pain, embarrassment & hurt in her eyes, even Benedict realised that Penelope has feelings for Colin. I think Anthony realised it too since he escorts her back to her house. If A & B knows, then C definitely realised it too but was feeling too guilty to acknowledge that. Plus, Pen never gave Colin a hard time for not liking her. She simply killed any hope she had for Colin to ever even like her a bit, let alone love.

Love your break down. You never disapoint as you point out things I have missed, like her wedding dress. I also love John and Fran. They are the sweetest and that is exactally what everyone should feel because we all need to hurt when the inevitable happens.

I really, really, reaaaally hope they are not gonna be sad and unhappy at their wedding. I would be devastated 💔 for once that we get to have a beautiful grand wedding in all its glory (and yeah Sammy Kanthony not having on screen wedding is a TRUE CRIME), I seriously would lose it, I would cry if all we get from them during their big day is sad looks... I hope they can pour their hearts out to each other, be angry/sad/mad but reconcile before the wedding oh please, please...

I don't know if there are other people who were like me, but at first I was not seduced by John (on the other hand I loved Francesca from the beginning). But as I kept watching and rewatching and rewatching countless times, I slowly but surely worked my way from "oh John. Ok." to "I think I like him" to "of course I love him!!". The actor plays him to perfection. He wonderfully conveys what John is. Seeing Fran and John together now makes my heart flutter but I also have a pang in my heart (we all know why...). Honestly it's so good to see them dance together, they look so wonderful dancing like that 😍 I am really intrigued too by Francesca's outfit for the big day that is her brother's wedding. It looks more like a traveling outfit of sorts for me (it gives a look that feels more plain).
Yup i agree with your analysis on pen's hesitancy and eloise is absolutely right in her insistence on telling him I'm only worried they'll get them married before she tells him and I will be so mad if they brushed her sins under the rug and she doesn't face any consequences and doesn't apologise and repent genuinely
That is what my problem is. If Pen as lady Whistledown does not face consequences, It really wouldn't be realistic. But Bridgerton is known for that. Daphne never had to pay anything for her actions. She never even said sorry ( even in the books she's the worst Bridgerton sibling for me or maybe simply her character growth worst because she doesn't have one.)

My theory is that Colin will find out Pen in LW sometime after Cressida takes the credit (maybe he catches Pen in the act trying to discredit Cressida like he does in the books). He tells her to let Cressida take the credit not understanding what LW means to Pen. Pen delivers her writings anyway, and the LW issue calling Cressida a liar gets delivered at the ball at which she’s wearing the red lipstick.
Sammy, a few comments from an old lady! Everyone forgets Marina tried to trap Colin into marring her. Penelope begged her to choose someone else to marry. Marina then tells Penelope I know you love Colin but he will never love you. Penelope did what she had to do to save Colin from this mistake. Yes, it was harsh, but justified IMO. With Eloise, she was taking chances going to the bad side of town. Penelope tried to warn her several times. Eloise did what she wanted to do. Now, I detest how Eloise shows such disregard for her family but how are people saying she shouldn't be saying what she says in the trailer? Other than when she's been showing covert compassion to Pen in pt.1, when I saw the trailer I just thought "THERE SHE IS, smart loyal Eloise has come home".

I think Pen is criticized so extremely because people that never grew up in a family like the Featheringtons or were trusted enough by someone to have that knowledge from them, dismiss the hardship of being made to feel guilty for every breath you take, how your family would literally be financially better off and happier if you didn't exist. They just expect Penelope to magic healthy coping mechanisms and strategies out of her ass without a therapist.
For Eloise I think her criticisms come from the assumption that she will never suffer consequences for her actions, so people punish her because the show won't. Daphne never suffered any meaningful consequences for her choice to SA Simion (imo), book-Eloise never suffered almost any consequence for her actions in the lead up to the meat of her story...personally I don't expect show-Eloise to ever acknowledge or apologize for how she gambled with her sisters' reputations (even unintentionally), despite knowing they didn't share her views on marriage and her being their big sister and is supposed to be conscientious of how her actions impact them, but I don't discount the possibility she will grow to treat her family better than she has, unlike her critics, I think. She's already showing growth, just a shame people can't see the possibilities for her or how she's already started to change her ways under her...trauma response/behavior? if that's the right term for her conduct in pt.1.
In the Portia scene with Penelope where she says that a lady does not have dreams, she is holding a Lady Whistledown issue right? Maybe she found out about Pen and is telling her to give up on it for Colin.

For me, it feels like the last bit of the trailer where Penelope is in dark green may mirror the book where she had ‘retired’ whistledown, but Cressida reveals that she is whistledown. And not wanting Cressida, her constant bully over the years, to take the one thing Penelope is so proud of accomplishing, she publishes her denial that it is Cressida. In the book it appears early at their engagement party, and when Colin already knows she’s LW, so maybe that’s why he looks so upset. In the book he wants her to be safe and she’s put herself back in the firing line.
I'm wondering if Eloise's comments during her speech is what could potentially tip off cressida that pen is LW. It's interesting cause i get the feeling that most of eloise's lines in the trailer are spliced from different parts.
I just know i'm gonna be DEVASTATED for the conflict in part 2. I don't wanna be sad too much tho. because I know shonda came through and apparently she cried for the season finale?
I don't think that's Colin undressing. I have heard spoilers that Benedicts storyline is going to get extra spicy. And maybe set him up to be disillusioned w/ his promiscuous ways. Which primes him to find love when he's least expecting it next season. :)
omg THANK YOU for talking about the fandom needing to look at eloise with more nuance. i've seen so much "eloise is the real villain" discourse and how she should just let colin and penelope be happy like ??? penelope almost ruined her last season. no one even talked to her in all those months off-season except cressida because of what penelope wrote. not to mention the marina situation. of course, she would want to warn her brother who has point blank stated that he despises whistledown. they're both teenagers dealing with larger-than-life situations. they're going to mess up and act selfishly at times, but they're both doing the best they can and hopefully they can reconcile.
To me it's a rather marina situation, if you cheered for Penelope when she revealed her secret to prevent Colin from marrying her while harboring a secret, you should cheer for Eloise as well when it comes to Penelope's secret, otherwise it makes you look like a hypocrite

Like u say what Pen did was to save Colin ( which I agree but she was also selfish because she could have told Marina's truth to Colin or Violet personally but then there was a chance that Colin would have still married Marina and Pen could not let that happen). And they say that she also warned Marina but that is what exactly El is doing. She is not saying don't marry or I'll tell the truth, she is saying u tell him or I'll do it. And how is that wrong. She is also saying truth that how can u expect someone to love u when they don't even know the full You. I think Benedict needed to be the one clocking Colin and saying, dude whats up with you hanging out with pen so much, like, the promenade scene and the entering the hawkings balloon field scenes were so underutilized for benedict, he needed to clock colin and be like, dude you’re not even paying attention to me cause youre all up on pen’s business, get it together. I really think the church scene is them making up at Fran’s wedding in episode 8. That’s just my theory because if they don’t talk for an entire episode because he found out she’s LW and then seeing Fran’s wedding ends the longing for one another even though he was upset with her.

My favorite scenes in the trailer are Colin's smirk/smile when he says awiftly and the part when Oen acknowledges the power she had. The scene when Comin says "what good am I to you" is going to be heartbreaking.
I might be way off but I'm gonna speculate anyways. Like cressida said, polin is psyche and eros. Pen as the g'd of love meddling in everyone's lovelife. And colin as princess psyche overcoming hurdles to show his devotion to pen. I think the biggest hurdle to overcome must be the queen. The rest really doesn't matter. There is a bounty on pen's head basically. Hero colin would want to protect pen (especially after he sleeps with her and she could possibly be with child). But how do you protect her from the queen, you can't. You can't go up against her, all you can do is run. Colin with his travel experience, I think he might go on the run with her. Its not like she would miss her family.
Easily done, they just got married so say you are going on your honeymoon and simple don't come back. Done. But considering pen and colin will be in next season makes me think it won't come to that. Someone (LD, she is the only connection between the queen and the bridgertons) will get the queen to back down. This would be in line with the eros and psyche myth as well. The other g'ds help psyche be with eros in the end. And I doubt violet would be happy if colin disappears. She might try to stop that.
Ok my thoughts about the trailer;
* the "than what use am i to you" scene. Colin knows about LW (cause she is wearing the outfit) but he doesn't look angry but panicked instead. And there is a passionate kiss afterwards so I see this more in the line of a declaration of love moment between them ("you are everything to me" kinda response from pen). Thats basically what colin wants to hear anyways. He just wants to protect her but can't.
The last scenes. I don't know why but it is giving off the vibe of them being exp*sed before they could go on their honeymoon. They look shocked and sad. I think pen gets outed right then and there and colin looks like that not cause pen upset him but he is upset cause he can't protect her if they are caught before they can leave.
But to be honest I think the queen was entertained all these years. Just like with choosing a diamond. Pen was the real diamond year after year. I think the queen might like pen if she has the same hobby and she is kinda like LD and the queen. She just needs encouragement to use her voice instead of hiding behind LW. If someone could convince the queen to encourage other women instead of sil^ncing them. This might have a very happy ending for polin.
