Thanks, this was very helpful even after 6 years :) I'll be using a very similar setup this September on a 300 mile hike. Cheers dude

Great setup! I've tried to make a DIY silnylon tarp and failed miserably! You do a damn good job! Thanks for sharing, ATB, David.

Thanks, it took a lot of time. The silnylon is some difficult stuff to sew from it being extremely slippery.

Thank you dude, for this video. I was on the fence about purchasing a very expensive MLD bivy. U saved my wallet. Cheers

That is a nice set up you've got there. I don't usually go for ground dwelling rigs, but yours looks really nice. Great work on that DIY tarp. -- If you find no-see-ems getting through your netting, try soaking it in permethryn. That should keep all kinds of creepy crawlies off of you.

Thanks! Ya I was going for a cheap lightweight shelter and this is what I've came up with so far. I would really like a camo tarp for some over night stealth camping. I'll have to try that if the no-see-um get bad. Where do you purchase it?

You can get permethryn at any outdoors retailer. If you have an REI local I know you can get it from there. If not, an outfitter should have it.

Good to know, I'll look into that if I need a better bug deterrent. Thanks!

    Hi Andy,
Like your very minimal set-up there! Have you compared this to a net with a bathtub floor with noseeum netting? I know the weight increase would be there but gives you a lot more protection and easy to get in and out of. Plus would probably replace the need for the Tyvek (but yeah Tyvek adds some really good protection from spiky stuff). Good video!

Gordon's Great Outdoors I did compare the two but I was going for the money saving factor. If the netting with the bathtub floor was the same price I would for sure go with that.Do you know of any cheaper ones? Thanks for watching!

No worries. I'm UK based so prices will be very different for you. I'm on the look out for one so will let you know when I get one. I'll probably try out the Rab Element Solo Bug tent and see what that's like. May even try and make one :)

When pitched in storm mode, does it negatively affect how the net hangs in your A-frame? If so, how would you have changed where you stitched your tie outs?

Are ants and spiders still able to crawl in, if so do you find it to be a problem?

***** not really, Bulow state park is pretty decent for day hikes but other than that it's like most of Florida ...Have a great time in your new home...so much nature out west..I lived in New Mexico for years and there is great hiking from the Desert all the way up the Rockies ...you'll love it!

Florida is still pretty neat, tons of pine trees for some good fat wood at least.
Do you have any recommendations for car camping or day hikes in New Mexico? We are planning on driving thru NM and want to do a quick overnight instead of getting a hotel.
