This is hands down one of the best albums ever recorded, both sonically and music wise. Virtually each song is a masterpiece. And the musicianship is outstanding.
Like Rush, their music is so complex and nuanced it requires more than the 500 words allowed for a typical rock music industry magazine article to describe properly. Their music caught my attention but the richness of their lyrics was what hooked me. One can simply read their lyrics without even hearing the music and the stories are beautifully told. Add music and you have a masterpiece. Sure, FISH was a bit quirky and the drugs probably didn’t help him sell the band but say what you will about him he’s a literary genius backed by a crew of supremely talented musicians who can add emotion to sound. It’s a lot easier to write about someone singing something like “I got my mind set on you” versus “at that time of the night, when streetlight throw crosses through window frames, paranoia roams where the shadows reign. At that time of the night.” ….”they should’ve sent a poet…”
I can remember going on my bike through the thrashing rain to buy the single “Assassing” at the local record shop when it was released and it was on my turntable on repeat! What a band! What an album! Epic! 😎
that bass guitar is supper supper - great music master piece and very under evaluated. It is group from my younger age but I discovered it just recently . Thanks
a fantastic way to describe the band with Fish lead singer. but we are blessed that Fish produced great solo material and Marillion soared to new heights with Steve Hogarth as the singer
An absolute sonic epic! First Marrion album I ever heard and the first CD I ever bought. They were rubbish after Fish left. A master of creating poetry in the darkest most beautiful corner of the human heart.

First time hearing Marillion - a friend lent me Fugazi about 1987. I recall hearing the line,"Inflict questions within questions", from Emerald Lies. It was a bit deeper than the heavy metal that I preferred then. But it grew on me. As did Yes, Genesis, and Saga. Marillion has amazing talent, both musically and lyrically. They took their music seriously, with incredible results.
I grew up on rock/metal. I never bothered with Marillion at the time, so have only just discovered them. I am utterly enthralled by them. My favourite Iron Maiden albums are "Somewhere in time" and "Seventh Son of........." I can totally see how they were influenced by Marillion songwriting and sound.
Oh to be able to discover and listen to Marillion for the first time. I envy you. I got Script as a present many years ago and was immediately hooked. Fugazi will always be the gold standard.
Looks like the time frame for this thread is one year or less which is pretty good for a comments section which has been around for maybe 10 years. Myself involved for less than one year with this. Very special innovation. Thanks for your comments. Yes, I would agree Fish is the best with no exception. Good to be alive.
I'm just listening to this, remembering the band we had in the late 80's, realising how much we ripped off of this great album back then, without being aware of it ...
Bought all the albums ,including picture discs , and interviews , all on vinyl . Also on cassettes , wore out the cassettes , albums never been played .
The recent boxset reissue of the album is superb. 3cds and a bluray disc housed in a beautiful hard back book case with the original artwork adorning the cover. The remix of the album is excellent and the new docu "The Performance has Just Begun" has interviews with all five members and is a great insight into the making of the album. Also has an extra 30min segment where the band discuss the genesis of the individual tracks. Highly recommended (if you can manage to get it at a reasonable price).

The Fish (Marillion) and Peter Hamill (Van der Graff Generator) have to be the most underrated singers ever in history of rock
This is hands down one of the best albums ever recorded, both sonically and music wise. Virtually each song is a masterpiece. And the musicianship is outstanding.
Damn right! 😂
Probably the most criminally underrated band ever.
I cannot understand the reasons of the underevaluation they have always suffered. Variety in melodies Is unique in the rock history.
Not by me! ✊️

They were pretty famous in the '80s!
I totally agree
2022 and still "This World is Totally Fugazi".
And now 2024 even more Fugazi
Fish at his finest. Their best album ever. Still love it
The music every 70s genesis fans wish gabriels came out with in the 80s

Beautiful Rock
Trewavas es un gran bajista. De los mejores de la Historia
Que discaaaso!
Lo mejor de Marillion son los 4 Lp que grabó con Fish!
The guitar solo and drums that explodes out at 19:49 is sonically so beautiful. Those lyrics cement something quite beautiful forever.
Marillion
Fish - vocals; cover concept
Steve Rothery - guitars; photography (1998 remastered edition)
Mark Kelly - keyboards
Pete Trewavas - bass
Ian Mosley - drums
Additional musicians

This is beautiful insightful poetry added beautifully mastered compositions, played by extremely profesionally crafted musicians.
Pithy, and correct…

SUPER
Was a lucky teenager to see them play live in Kilburn High Road, some pub no longer there, London -
Steve Rothery what a underrated guitarist on par with Gilmour in my humble opinion!
Yup !!
Oh yea 😍
Hes said in an interview that Gilmour was a huge inspiration. Dude is amazing
С тобой согласен.
Ooooooooh yea!!! Hé is one of the great!!!!
Out of all the albums Marillion recorded, "Fugazi" has always been a personal favorite of mine 🎶🔥🎶🔥🎶
saw them in 1985 in Mainz, Germany. Then 1995 in Ohio, USA. Met them

I wouldn't say rubbish, but I get your point. The band with Fish was on another level. After he left they became just a very good band.
I used to think this, and although there are albums that don’t do much for me, there’s still plenty to enjoy. It’s different though.
Indeed

They sound like, we did almost copy the songs of better ones. Most overrated something that make noice and smell.
Sounds A Little Bit Like Peter Gabriel !
Not until Fish left.

The best album of the Marillion .
I think you could be correct I always loved fugazi
You can’t compare this album with anything else. It has its own unique style which is amazing. The lyrics just blows me away.
