It's easy to forget why Arthur so quickly gave Merlin his whole-hearted trust and alliance, even as he was constantly a royal prat. Here's Arthur. Son of the king, sole heir to the throne, good with sword and trained to win his own battles. Born to be respected by everybody around. Everybody who likes their head on their shoulders knows who he is and defer to him in his presence. Probably even the jockeys he was with in the first episode didn't dare make mocking jokes about him. Then here comes this scrawny, big-eared twig. This commoner, _peasant,_ he's never even seen before, who's clearly not built to fight, who calls him out on his treatment of a servant. Insults him to his face. Even tries to bluff himself out of a fight by practically threatening him. *Throws the first punch.* Arthur was obviously impressed at the moronic courage of this other person, who didn't even recognize him. But also, some part of Arthur, deep inside of himself, somewhere he may not have noticed, suddenly felt normal. Like he'd been craving to feel. It wasn't the prince and the squires he befriended, it was just boy to boy. A "friendly rivalry," butting heads with someone who spoke to him as an equal, possibly lesser. He'd probably seen similar interactions between the squires, but he'd never been part of it because "he's the prince." Sure, it's in his good nature to not see anyone die for him, in reference to s1ep4, when Merlin drinks a poisoned cup to prove a point and protect Arthur. But he protects Merlin with a ferocity he only gives to those he trusts with his life, and it was a long time before anybody else earned that. Merlin was the first to gain that trust, because he was the first to be unafraid to speak his mind and throw around mocking jokes, even after they were bound as master and servant.
Second episode? Third? Was the first of many assassination attempts on Arthur, and the simplest. A crossbow bolt. Merlin could have easily used magic to force the bolt to near-miss and stayed out of the ensuing havoc. He could have done nothing. Of all of his choices, he chose to tackle Arthur out of harm's way. He could have easily been hit by the bolt with that choice, it was only with luck that he wasn't. He chose the only method that undeniably involved _him_ as actively choosing to protect Arthur, leading him to immediately become a personal manservant. Sorry I just needed to ramble, I've got nobody around to talk to

This video was truly perfect 🥰 Your editing and sing choices are brilliant- I must have watched this dozens of times already and it never fails to make me smile. While I do also appreciate some of the painful emotional stuff too (and may have a small playlist especially for the beautiful but heartbreaking Merlin/Arthur videos that incorporate Arthur’s death) I really cant tell you how much I appreciate a video like this that highlights the best of their relationship so beautifully, and gives strong emotion without bringing the soul-crushing angst of that final episode... This just makes me happy, and let’s me remember and enjoy the great times and soulful looks they shared. You seem to have knack for being able to capture their wonderful unique connection so expertly with your scene choice and editing, and can bring across the emotional depth of Arthur and Merlin’s relationship, without having to tear my heart apart to do it. This video went straight on my best of the best Merthur favourites list (which seems to contain many of your amazing videos.)
