Thanks for this doc. Got ablated a few days ago. Prior to this,I had permanent afib. Upon learning this, I spent months leading up to the ablation adjusting my lifestyle: gave up drinking, exercised more, fasting, diet changes like going more fish and veggies, consuming less meat, cut out carbs. I’m now down 35 pounds, weighing 185. Not bad for a 44 year old, I’m 6’2” tall as well. So bmi is perfect. My blood work showed I no longer have high cholesterol and triglycerides. My wife tells me I no longer snore at night. After my ablation, I have no plans on going back to my old drinking days. Completely abstaining, hoping I can minimize a reccurance of afib down the road. What a eye opener.

Im scheduled for my ablation this month. I’ve quit drinking and using stimulants aside from my morning coffee, Diet and everything is in check.

@@DMoney505 so far no recurrences. I had this done in June. I’m eating meat again, as well as black coffee. Reduction In anything processed will pay dividends. I take magnesium tablets daily. @@jamieohh4990 hey, you'll be fine. since my ablation, afib returned. My EP cardioverted me. Sinus rhythm lasted only a week with yet another afib episode. He told me this could be expected as its party of the 3 month blanking period, essentially the heart muscles are relearning and re-training itself to stay in SR. Eventually, I self converted and stayed that way for most of the year. The only times I had afib again were when I was highly stressed and ran low on electrolytes. Both recurrences were temporary and resolved on its own a day later. It resolves quicker with intake of electrolytes. I'm glad I had gotten the ablation, it surely helped. Without it I dont know if I'd be in normal SR naturally. I still train hard, even went on the carnivore diet, still not drinking, cut out carbs AND sugar. Lost more weight, dont snore anymore, I dont think i've ever felt better. Lifestyle changes can and will help you stay in rhythm.

Dr Gupta, I want to say a massive thanks to you personally.
I had my second episode of AF last month, last one was 10 years ago, I was given Flecanide to reverse the AF after 7 hours this worked.
Afterwards I was left with lots of ectopics and a wrecked sleep pattern because of them. I found your video on breathing over 5 seconds slower and longer to try and combat the ectopics very helpful, and have found it helps greatly reducing them.
Thanks for putting a wealth of information available to AF, SVT and Arrhythmia sufferers out there for everyone to access and use. Top Man. (if I bump into you in Yorkshire, I'll definitely buy you a pint!)

Five years of permanent AF. Had an ablation two years ago. Worked for a day or two. My heart ran like clockwork then back to AF. A couple of months ago had a cardioversion. Did not work and maybe made it worse. On metoprolol Ramipril. Xarelto and pantoprazole. Sleep apnea machine for four years. Overweight former marathon finisher. Hope one day it goes away with advances in medicine. Enjoy your videos as I find them a common sense approach and hopeful.

I’ve been dealing with a-fib for 22 years. Anti arrhythmic drugs stopped working had 3 “successful ablations” (each failed to keep my heart in NSR after 3 to 6 years).
I’m 72, male, BMI is 21, normal BP, low cholesterol, normal BS, never used tobacco, or alcohol or other recreational drugs, The only medication that I’m taking is Xarelto 20 mg per day, Tikosyn (500 Mcg twice a day and that isn’t working), I sleep adequately and I get A LOT of physical exercise.
I’m thinking that perhaps I’m doing too much physical exercise.
But my EP told me that I have “no physical limitations” and I “have the heart of an Olympic cyclist” and my heart “laughs at a-fib”.

But I really want to do all I can before I get ablation. Unfortunately ablation is considered elective surgery right now in Santa Clara County (covid-19 issues). my EP told me he's now not allowed to schedule any unless people are passing out from AF. I'm going to be getting ablation as soon as I'm able maybe Easter. God willing and the well don't rise.

    • @801oap
      @801oap Рік тому

My understanding is that competitive endurance athletes can have a higher rate of a-fib, I think due to structural changes in the heart. So, if your A-fib was caused by being a high level endurance athlete, going back to that activity may eventually bring it back. Of course, most endurance athletes likely do not develop a-fib, but if predisposed may want to adjust. Wish you the best.

I am allergic to most foods, ever since a myelogram where I cracked 2 vertebrates in my back. Have been told to have a minimum of 4 - 6 beers every day, as the weight rapidly falls off me now. I dont drink (cept what specialists said to), dont smoke, no cholesterol since losing weight (it was an 8 when I was overweight apparently now it is the perfect range) exercise only lightly (walking around the paddocks feeding animals and stuff like housework, grocery shops ect) I do eat sugar, but only because of weight yet again and my diets mainly supplements and pasta or breads (allergies again to proteins, seafoods, citrics, sulphur, dairy, eggs ect ect) Taking flecainide and metoprolol also as a pip. I find if I eat too much or anything I shouldnt puts me into weird beats. I am a physician and have been licensed for 50 years and I can assure you the major reason for AF is all the free glutamic acid (hidden MSG) in our foods. The FDA allows manufactures more than 70 codewords that mean MSG, so they can hide it in our food, Medicine, cosmetics, and even IVs! Have you ever seen citric acid, maltodextrin, natural flavoring, and modified or fortified anything? All of those are codenames for MSG! it affects everything controlled the vagus nerve and there’s your atrial fib! I am adamant that all my patients must eliminate MSG. It also causes Alzheimer’s, chronic muscle spasms and pain, migraines, digestive disturbances and cancer.
Plus more. Protein, powders, and mushroom powders contain huge amounts of free glutamic acid. It is naturally occurring in chocolate and tomatoes so if you have those items pulverized (chocolate is processed that way) you will have all the MSG reactions.

But since seeing cardiologist who suffered with AF he suggested this.

After that I was sent home the same day with a prescription of Atenolol. The condition had gotten better, up to until a few weeks ago. Been experiencing the flutter and rapid beats off & on all throughout the day; even as I type this, sadly 😥.

It’s so frustrating I’ve also had to oblations ,
One for Afib , after about three months I started getting PVCs one after another every time I started moving around ,
Then I got where it was even when I got laid down and try to rest still there be skip beat skip beat skip four hours ,
I was having like 50,000 of these things a day , so did another cardiac ablation
Now I am on day 54 and I’ve been picking up the pace a little bit not a lot and I noticed I’m starting to have PVCs again .
😪 , I don’t understand it I’m bedridden walk around on eggshells my life is over .
I can’t do anything without having PVCs one after another trying to be normal and your heart’s doing this . 🙏🏻 it’s just so frustrating 😪

I've had 4 a fibs and now they want to do an ablation. But never do they try to correct the cause which in my experience is high blood pressure.. they give you BP medicine,. But overall meds do not help at one point it was the weight loss that brought the pressure back to normal.

    • @andynightingale7335

Not really, they'd try and cure the AF / SVT by isolation of rhe pulmonary vein first and mapping the circuits in the heart as well. Having a pacemaker is a last resort as it means the AV node (the hearts natural pacemaker) would have to be destroyed to introduce am artificial one.

I have AF and do not drink or smoke and eat healrhy. The cause of may AF is Histamin. I get episodes after I eat histamin and hormone problems are another cause. Also made an allergy test and I am allegic against all sorts of bread and casein ans nuts. So if I eat much of this my mastcells relaese histamin which causes AF.

Not overweight, no diabetes, bp normally around 118/67, cholesterol 147, no sleep apnea, work out five days a week, never smoked in my life. Hate alcohol - all of it. Had a cadioversion end of 2019, the minute I stopped the Multaq the A-fib came back. I had an ablation four months ago - symptoms started again a fortnight ago. Ergo... I don't seem to have any of the possible causes listed. I will probably have to have a second ablation that they tell me increases the chances of success (85% - 87%). I am hopeful yet pessimistic at the same time. I know there are worse things in this life, but I am so fed up of this. Am I some sort of A-Fib anomaly?

@@jvillanueva10jv It will be one year tomorrow since I had my first ablation. Started feeling a little "funky" a couple of weeks ago and went to see my cardiologist today. He did the usual EKG, and I am in a holtor monitor tonight. He prefers the weekly one but seeing how it goes tonight first. He was not sure based on the EKG whether I was in Afib or if it was just PVCs. I do have an appointment with my electrophysiologist on 14th March though, and I shall see what he says. I do get high anxiety , and honestly, only over my health - a great worrier. None of that helps. I "might" also have been overdosing myself with magnesium so off to get some bloodwork done as well. However, if the second ablation becomes necessary I will of course run not walk to the OR. I felt amazing after my first one and the success rates go up considerably after a second one. One last thing I do want to share. I have both an Apple Watch and a Kardio Mobile. NEITHER one is the gospel!!! My cardiologist finds the printout of the kardio mobile almost imossible to read as the download of the Kardio Mobile has the waves on a black line and makes A-fib difficult to pick out, and as per my electrophysiologist, the problem with both of those devices, is that their algorithms are not sophisticated enough to tell the difference between actual A-fib and skipped beats, so it interprets anything not 100% as being A-fib. A wee bit disheartening when you thought they actually worked. Sorry for the long reply, but if you are like me, and especially where my health is concerned, I like details. Also sorry - I only just saw this and did not get a notification of a reply to my comment.

I'm too scared to have an ablation! I've quit drinking alcohol and focusing on losing 10% of my body weight, per my doctor (which is only 17 lbs - I still have 13 lbs to go). I am sure that quitting alcohol has reduced the number of episodes I have. I am less optimistic about the weight making any sort of difference.

I have persistent Afib. Diagnosed this past November. May have had longer but did not know. Was more tired when going for walks but just thought it was “old age”.
Had cardiac version. Successful but only lasted 10 days. Now undecided whether to go with ablation. Don’t know if worth the try to get back into normal rhythm. I function ok in Afib but worry that my heart can be damaged further. Please advise. Also how much can I exercise with this condition and can I naturally improve my heart rate?

    • @mam0313

@Andrew Mossa - I had the PVI Ablation procedure done just 2 weeks ago after a documented 40 YEAR history of paroxysmal AFib that landed me in the ER many times. I did everything but beg to have ablation done. I saw 3 doctors in different practices over the last 20 years who all told me that the ablation was "too dangerous....you're too young to have it". #4 told me to "STAY OUT OF THE ER, use Flecainide as needed, and expect to have ablation done as the episodes increase with your age." 3 months ago after having AFib recurring to monthly, then 2-3 times a week and missing work on short notice, a nurse practitioner referred me to an electrophysiologist. He told me "this is first-line treatment". I am recovering very well, a little slow due to several age-related comorbid conditions. I'll be on blood thinner and anti arrhythmic med for 3 months, then look forward to not worrying about blood clots and stoke. I hope you can find the right treatment choice for yourself, as what I had to deal with all these years made me miserable and afraid all the time.
