This game is amazing i have spent so much time playing it. It was a great way for Ensemble studios to say goodbye. Its beautiful and raises the bar for console RTS games.
It makes perfect sense. I was implying that you're an ignorant Xbox fanboy. See, it could be released for both consoles.. and PC. Not just an exclusive.
Love the game but hate the multiplayer now, they mostly use the same tactic just rush with heroes,or banshees what's the fun with that? At least it can be played with ai's
I been waiting since November to be backwards compatible for the xbox one if only I knew it will take them 6 months I would had purchased another 360 to play it.
victormania2008 sadly I don't see how there can really be a sequel just because everything about the halo universe the UNSC, the covenant, the flood and the units they have are already in this game so there really isn't much room left for expansion unless they just remaster it for the current gen
I just like the decent amount of balance and counters to each units, a lot of rts usually have that one superunit that cant be trumped but even in this game the strongest unit (scarab) can be taken down by strafing air units
This game was good, but it could have been so much better in my opinion. I believe they should of taken note of how Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 plays and built off of that. I love the base building mechanics in that game compared to the way it functions in Halo wars where you are forced to build on pre set locations. Another small thing that annoys me in Halo wars is that you are unable to select your color during multiplayer, a minor problem but it still bugs me. Overall a decent RTS game.
Love the game still play it just as much in 2015 as I did in 2010 and I'm even a playstation fan this game was one of the reasons my second console purchase was an xbox 360 although I feel like this game would have been even better if they added a campaign for the covenant a good idea would have been the same as the UNSC campaign but from their perspective and obviously with a different ending
In all possible ways I would say yes even if you're not an RTS fan and just a halo fan you will still love it as I said I'm a playstation fan but I still played almost every halo game and still adore this game but I would recommend buying the limited edition it's about the same price at least in my state and it comes with a bunch of extra stuff a graphic novel leader cards and a UNSC spirit of fire patch
I remember playing Age of Empires II when I was seven years old. When I turned 10 Halo CE PC was what got me into FPS games. When Halo Wars came out I WAS IN HEAVEN! RTS games and FPS games are both great, I don't understand why a lot of people hated on this game :/
@XxstoopidmonkayxX you can set it up so the colors are made to represent enemies and allies, instead of ori colors, for instance, in multiplayer each player has a color of their own, but when you switch the option, all enemies are red and allies blue
I've had this game for years, never played it though. I will, but I guess I bought it on sight out of excitement and wasn't expecting strategy. My bad, but I will play it some day.
"....But the characters are sorta your standard card-board cutouts". Really? This game had better character development than "Halo: Reach" did. In fact story-wise, this game was a better prequel than "Reach" was.
This was the first RTS game I've played, and yes I've bought it because it was a halo game. But overall it's a really fun and satisfying game. I love it
The only problem in this game is that the leaders are pretty strong. It also pisses me off when they have like 20 engineers in the back somewhere healing the leaders as they run away into the dark areas.
i personally loved it. but there were a lot of people hating on it so i';m not sure if you'll like it. in any case i think it will be coming to pc aswell on windows store
should i get this game for christmas? btw i have never really played a rts game, i have never been a fan of age of empire crap but i am a big fan of halo. so should i get it?
This game was actually pretty fun but I wish they'd made it more like the Age series. As a big Ensemble fan since 1998, I was a little disappointed with the game play and I don't understand why they made a halo game for their fans rather than a historical game- Most Halo fans weren't the ones that needed thanking for their loyalty to the studio over the years.
@rickdarko Brutes are part of the Covenant, they don't have enough individual units to make up a faction. Though if you play as the Cheiftan, you get brute squads, brute choppers and brutes in your Grunt Squads instead of Elites. As for the Flood, they were cut along with the Covenant campaign when Ensemble realised they didn't have enough time to finish all of the game and would have to scrap some parts. I agree it's a shame.
I've nvr played an RTS b4 Halo Wars and fell in love with them! IT just is so much fun getting to control ur units and unleashing massive fire power on ur enemies!!!
Yes, Reach is before the events of Halo Wars. With what we have seen in the trailer for Halo Reach, i will guess thats its the start of the Coventant war.
@bobx9000 The Spirit of Fire didn't make it back to human-controlled space before CE, or if it did, ONI hushed it up. Thereby the UNSC didn't know about the Flood until they discovered them on Installation 04.
I personally like this game because its so easy to get into and figure out and just play for hours. Trying to beat somebody online can be simple or incredibly challenging depending on who you vs. I have more fun with this game than the games its based off of.
"Halo Wars" was a little too simplified and streamlined, but it was still a fun RTS game that has its moments. The missions are very kinetic and the cut-scenes flow well with the pacing of the game. This is a worthy swan song for Ensemble Studios, if you ask me.
It's a bit weird to have a Halo RTS? Bungie was originally making Halo CE a RTS game. Then they were testing the game by making it third person, and then first person. Yup, the successful Halo series all began when Bungie was changing the camera view of the game.
In my opinion, great game. Limited by the resources available on a console and trying to reduce online play time, but a great RPS for both the Xbox 360 and Bungie. Although Age of Empires was much more in depth, (could place bases wherever, could place walls and turrets wherever, 4 different types of resources, no population limit) those games would continue for hours on end and would never survive online. With that in mind, Halo Wars is the best RTS game available for the Xbox 360.
This has gotta be the first ever halo game that wasnt really anticipated. I like the game, it wouldve been the best RTS game if it came out like 2 years after halo 1 a.k.a in 2003.
This game was alright, but i found in Skirmish mode you could win on any difficulty by just spamming Vultures and getting your MAC to fire four rounds. This just needed more balance to be a decent RTS
If only Microsoft hadn't disbanded Ensemble, Age of Empires 4 could have made it's first appearance on console. Instead they've tossed away the old formula only to make AoE online. What an utterly fantastic game.
flood would be very fun, but maybe they think it makes it too similar to Starcraft or something: Teron/UNSC, Protos/Covenant, Zerg/Flood. But it would be very fun to focus on possessing enemy units to defeat them
I got the greatest hits version of this game factory-sealed with a download voucher for all its DLC included for only 15 bucks, and it was well worth it. I would recommend this game to all 360 owners.
This wwas the only RTS that i never got bored of, but theres not that much strategy usually the bigger army wins the battle so ur main goal is just to make the biggest bad-ass of each faction to destroy the enemy.
@crystalhand70 Exactly, the reason people don't enjoy halo wars like the other halos is because it doesnt have first person. Halo was originally a rts, but one day someone in the office for the heck of it made it an fps, and the rest of the office seemed to like that more than the rts.
The halo story was in it's peak when halo combat evolved came out. After that, it went down, but still, these games are very good. I love halo, and, assuming you didnt read the books, it has a really good storyline.
yes it is i think bungie came to a good idea about incressing the assault rifle but i think its a little over powered i really think they should have incressed the pistol power to slightly less than the halo combat evolved one
One statement isn't completely true: it is ensemble studios last game, but the founders of ensemble are created a new gaming studio so the people from ensemble are still going to be making games just under a different name
you guys do know that halo is a small tribute to starcraft right? i mean think about it, the UNSC are the terrans, the covannent are the protoss, and the floos are the zerg. this game is basicley the true tribute to starcraft, the game that had major inspiration to this series.
@TheTenorSaxlord I know right! Like 8/10 Halo Wars player's stratagy is to rush. Me and my one friend 2v2ed these guys online and we call it the "Battle of the Century" because no one rushed and it turned into this huge battle halfway that lasted more than 1 hour! And we were in 5th grade during this so dont judge the fact that we named it :P
I love this game I play all the time its nice graphics and fun play with friends online. I also love those cut scenes they make me feel like I am in the game
This is a fun CONSOLE RTS, not on par with a PC RTS what so ever, but it's a fun game to pick up and play for a console, versus the C&C series which is much more in detail but Halo Wars is a great little game and now it goes for like $20 brand new with the DLC at most retail stores so it's worth it for sure! I picked this up when it first came out and just re-picked it up today and still enjoy it! Esp. the online parts!
If you've played Halo Wars you will find that Hunters are Anti-Tank/Building and that they are pretty poor to any infantry. If you had a jackel with beamrifles against a spartan the jackel would win the fight. Of cource that spartan isnt upgraded either so that would make a different fight all together. Wasn't the first halo originally going to be an RTS?
Yes it was
Yes
Halo wars + star wars galactic battlegrounds
I love Halo Wars
:)
Would it be cool if there was a Covenant campaign?
Probably my only real complaint about this this game.
Or flood
Theres both on 2 well u play as the covenant against the flood
Or even a covenant dlc
@@totalinglist7502 flood dlc would be cool
This game is amazing i have spent so much time playing it. It was a great way for Ensemble studios to say goodbye. Its beautiful and raises the bar for console RTS games.
:)
I really hope a sequel is released for the Xbox One
Or it could just be for PS4..
That makes no sense at all
It makes perfect sense. I was implying that you're an ignorant Xbox fanboy. See, it could be released for both consoles.. and PC. Not just an exclusive.
I don't know if you've noticed. Halo is owned by Microsoft, they won't make a multi-platform game out of one of their most successful franchises.
Well you never know.. People can leave and make a new game.. I mean, look at Destiny. It will be 10 times better than Halo ever was.
Wow, I just got the limited edition of halo wars at a retailer which came with everything for just $16!
what retailer?
Love the game but hate the multiplayer now, they mostly use the same tactic just rush with heroes,or banshees what's the fun with that? At least it can be played with ai's
thats the best way to play :D
That really is annoying and I always say that it ruins the whole experience of building up and the patience and strategy
It removes all strategy and boils down to see who can build up the fastest.
#zergrush
Very easy to counter rushers.
The graphics in the cutscenes in this game are AMAZING!
:)
The Seahawks should have ran the ball.
MrLaeddis1 Entirely wrong place bud
Facts
I been waiting since November to be backwards compatible for the xbox one if only I knew it will take them 6 months I would had purchased another 360 to play it.
wow ign was so much good in 2009 I am impressed now
its shit money maker
+Guess who Urright hopefully your English was better back then
i'm still playing this game! i'm looking forward for halo wars 2 :D
Sadly, the creators of Halo Wars, Ensemble, Has disbanded. There may not be a sequel.
Barış The Turk 343 said its a possiblitie they may carry it on themselves :)
victormania2008 sadly I don't see how there can really be a sequel just because everything about the halo universe the UNSC, the covenant, the flood and the units they have are already in this game so there really isn't much room left for expansion unless they just remaster it for the current gen
Viktory Gaming Network Check again.
@@SirHalo6100oh how naive you have become now my halo friend
I just like the decent amount of balance and counters to each units, a lot of rts usually have that one superunit that cant be trumped but even in this game the strongest unit (scarab) can be taken down by strafing air units
halo wars 2 was the best beta I ever played
There was a beta?
KOgames yeah it was sooo fun

Yeah I bought it and finished the campaign, pretty solid, just wish there was more maps for skirmish
Danz Andy Me and you both if you want check out my channel I upload quite often and would be greatful
I just recently got an Xbox 360 and I’m sold
I’m gonna buy this game
WHY HAVE THEY NOT MADE A HALO WARS 2 :'(
They just announced it. Coming Holiday 2016.
Yeah I know found out yesterday!!!!!! Switched to PC gaming now so I can play it
+Reece Goodman -_- why would it be on the pic it's not a iPhone app
+mike limes what? They have announced it would be on PC for windows 10 only.
+Reece Goodman Uh, no. Wars 2 will be for Xbox One and Windows 10.
Only game soundtrack that makes me feel nostalgic
Wow i cant wait to pre order this new halo game!
XD

Nice AoE reference. AoE is the best RTS without a doubt!
No, it's not. go play supreme commander.
No it's not. Go play Starcraft bw/ Starcraft 2 HotS
How about you accept the fact that people can have different opinions?
I endorse that statement
Play company of heroes
I've had this game for years, never played it though. I will, but I guess I bought it on sight out of excitement and wasn't expecting strategy. My bad, but I will play it some day.
Ensemble, You created an amazing Halo game, and an amazing farewell. R.I.P.

no, well I don't know if Harvest was in Fall of Reach, but I read Contact Harvest and it takes place mostly on Harvest.
theres a patch being worked on that will be downloadable on the marketplace that will allow you to conrol the flood.
Who still has this and still plays it cos I do
Was the halo wars 2 beta good? This may be the reason I get an Xbox one
i personally loved it. but there were a lot of people hating on it so i';m not sure if you'll like it. in any case i think it will be coming to pc aswell on windows store

@ludovert I get your point but i think the Protoss is more like the forerunner and the Xel naga is more like the Halo predecours.
I love this game and being a big RTS fan as well as a halo fan i think this is brilliantly well done and easy to use for rookie RTS players.
Sad I haven't played this yet, and sad I can't play as flood.
However, I am happy I will play it.
the campain was a little short, but the cut sceans were nothing short of unbeleavible
they were amazing!
Does 4:18 mean there's flood in MP as a neutral side, since I saw he was commanding covie, and the campaign forces you on the UNSC.
I only find a few thousand people on Xbox now, it's a bit sad since there used to be 10,000+ people in the past.
I love Halo Wars at the end where *** ***** dies I almost cried especially when the captain closes his pod
@bobx9000
The Spirit of Fire didn't make it back to human-controlled space before CE, or if it did, ONI hushed it up. Thereby the UNSC didn't know about the Flood until they discovered them on Installation 04.

Well technically, Infantry-Vehicle- Air Unit could be looked at as a sort of RPS thing.
10 years...
Colt Teben 99 wow i tought i was the only one here
they have 2 be coming out with halo wars 2, they have an achievement called "Ready for the Sequel"
"Halo Wars" was a little too simplified and streamlined, but it was still a fun RTS game that has its moments. The missions are very kinetic and the cut-scenes flow well with the pacing of the game. This is a worthy swan song for Ensemble Studios, if you ask me.
i hadn even heard of Ensamble studios until Halo wars was anounced
I would love this game if it was PC, scrapped modular buildings, and added more standard mining.
man the cutscenes are unbelievable
@XxstoopidmonkayxX Its on Friend and Foe Colors, you can change that through the settings menu
honestly, they should have handed the rights to Ensemble studios instead of 343i. this game was awesome.
Did you know that Halo: Combat Evolved was originally going to be an RTS? I guess this is close to what Bungie had envisioned.
This game is fun. Especially when you're in a 3v3 match, then shit gets crazy!
@SupremeChun But halo spawned from marathon which was always an fps ?
LOL right after he says" you'll know its a halo game" a flying building comes and I think of a starcraft command center XD
It's a bit weird to have a Halo RTS? Bungie was originally making Halo CE a RTS game. Then they were testing the game by making it third person, and then first person. Yup, the successful Halo series all began when Bungie was changing the camera view of the game.

Ensemble sought out to make the best rts on console, I think they did
This has gotta be the first ever halo game that wasnt really anticipated. I like the game, it wouldve been the best RTS game if it came out like 2 years after halo 1 a.k.a in 2003.

Why would they put the flood in the game when it takes place before the halo event?
It's a iconic enemy in the Halo Series like the Covenant
Then they should have put it in reach by your reasoning
Matthew Bendyna Maybe so. Its the choice of the developer
True. It's still inconsistent.
Matthew Bendyna I don't know if the flood existed before Halo: combat evolved
I still play this all the time, hope they make a sequel but I doubt it.
This wwas the only RTS that i never got bored of, but theres not that much strategy usually the bigger army wins the battle so ur main goal is just to make the biggest bad-ass of each faction to destroy the enemy.

halo wars 2 should be with the unsc fleet, like frigates, cruisers and destroyers as vehicles, and sabres and longswords as infantry
The halo story was in it's peak when halo combat evolved came out. After that, it went down, but still, these games are very good. I love halo, and, assuming you didnt read the books, it has a really good storyline.
As for the sequel, I heard some of the former Ensemble employees started a new company. So theres still hope for Halo Wars 2!
I've loved all the halo games and I feel left out with this game, is this a must buy?
4:26 lmfao at the warthog at the bottom right of the screen
Is the length in time of the campaign reasonable
hi is there going to be a halo wars 2?
How much is this game worth at Gamestop. Will buy if the game is cheap because I always loved strategy games, except when they are in PC.
I still play this today I love it
yes it is i think bungie came to a good idea about incressing the assault rifle but i think its a little over powered i really think they should have incressed the pistol power to slightly less than the halo combat evolved one
yea, in halo 1 all i ever used was the hand gun, it was fun getting head shots, and it was insta-kill on some enemys
Found the Classics edition with borg DLC packs for 17$ today. Well worth the price
One statement isn't completely true: it is ensemble studios last game, but the founders of ensemble are created a new gaming studio so the people from ensemble are still going to be making games just under a different name
Is this a really hard game to pick up and play? cuz i want to play something like starcraft 2 but my computer is like ass...
you guys do know that halo is a small tribute to starcraft right? i mean think about it, the UNSC are the terrans, the covannent are the protoss, and the floos are the zerg. this game is basicley the true tribute to starcraft, the game that had major inspiration to this series.
Wait, so what was the score?
Did you know Halo was originally to be an RTS? That's where the inspiration for this game comes from.
If they bothered to add mouse and keyboard functionality then this could have been a lot more popular.

Spartans are only over powered when they are inside a vehicle.
Needs a PC sequel with no base building limits and some more units. Has a lot of potential if they remove these limitations
They should make a second one with different plot and setting
