U.S. won the Mosconi Cup in 2018 and 2019, so why are there so many comments that this Europe vs. U.S. format is no longer a realistic competitive matchup ? I thought the whole idea of the Cup anyway was/ is to have the country where pool originated challenge the rival continent. I don't know the history of it but I am thinking it was not ever designed to be a quote/ unquote "fair fight". The European continent has probably had approximately double the population than the US for the thirty years the cup has been played and the comparative skill levels on the teams continue to ebb and flow... or is the idea that Europe has surpassed the U.S. now forever?
The first thing you notice is EU playing like a team, really hyping things up and supporting each other. USA on the other hand is down. These guys are pros and amazing (look at SVBs record this year) but not as a team. Yes the nerves get things down but…
Yup, Europe are playing strong as a team and appear dominant and relentless. USA on the other hand look like a hastily thrown together pub team - absolutely lost out there, missing balls, out of position, playing too defensively etc. Gorst is trying but even he's playing poorly. All the rest need a kick up the arse, as they're ruining the competition IMO - the Mosconi Cup hasn't got that competitive edge and fire again this year. I'm hoping that USA perform much better on day 3 so we can get some tension and excitement going into the final day.
Its not the nerves, its the mindset that's along side the nerves. Nerves are good when you can remain confident and fierce.

Yeah this is hard to watch. Personally I love SVB but I’m so disappointed in his play over the last couple years. Especially in the Mosconi cup. Sad that he’s one of the best USA has to offer. I’m glad we got Fedor but he must have felt like he was playing against EU and SVB. Funny how often in pool it’s the person or team that doesn’t need it that gets some lucky rolls. Who is that 17-year-old that almost beat SVB last year? The one who accidentally hit the five before the four because he wasn’t familiar with the colors. We should get him on the Mosconi team. I mean we might as well give him the experience. Not saying instead of SVB, but maybe the new guy. I mean at this point the only one on our team that should definitely be there next year is Fedor. 😞

By the looks of it Team USA is looking to better their previous 11-2 onslaught by Team Europe. That was under the guidance of Buddy Hall. Barry Hearn is telling Team Europe, “guys we know you’ll win but please miss a bit more to make it close or we won’t be able to sell any tickets next year!” 😂
Ouschan vs Styer is the most one sided and fastest game in the history of mosconi cup. It wont finish 11-2 but this is the most one sided first half

Honestly the USA needs to regroup there line up. Get some killer road players and young guys that actually see this as a lifetime accomplishment. And get Earl to coach them into savages that dont give a crap but just want to win. I feel like our guys have the if we win great, if we loose i get $30k mindset. Road players want to win!

Oh Dear!! this is not going to turn out well for US...again. I don't understand Shane suddenly getting the yips (official golf term) in this event. He's been here many times and knows the atmosphere besides being a major champion. It looks like the nerves are causing wobbly play and the focus is just not there.
The Euros on the other hand are making this look like just another walk in the park. Solid shooting,, sharp focus and having fun doing it, just like the Ryder Cup.
Shane has historically not lived up to expectations in the misconduct cup for some reason. I think the alternate break d's him up. He gets his stroke when he can run racks!
What an absolute embarrassment for team USA. That difference in discipline for playing this game is staggering. USA should just forfeit now. Sad
They are playing pretty bad (especially SVB)... the thing I don't understand, is that it's not like they're playing Juggernauts that can't be beaten. They're playing the same guys they play multiple times a year in major tournaments, and those matches can go either way... but come December, in the cup, they play terrible like they're totally out classed.

SVB doesn’t play well on teams (don’t think I’ve ever seen him perform well in team matches)
I feel like someone on the team is always doom and gloom as soon as they miss a ball which really adds pressure.
Lastly only 2 of the guys on the team have won a major. Only SVB and Fedor. Sky has gone deep multiple times but never pulled it off (although I think it could happen at any time. He has the skill) styer is still young so he’s got plenty of time to work on his nerves. And idk anything about woolford.
I think once Thorpe comes back from his suspension, we’ll have much better spirits (sky and Thorpe duo is disgusting) and it’s one more high energy, happy go lucky player to keep spirits up.

Like, US Open finals, World 8-ball, World 9-ball, and Multiple Mosconi Cups... i agree they don't look loose, but I don't think it's pressure. Not this early in the cup, and not compared to playing for a major championship. Idk what's wrong with them.

I thought Fedor repping Team USA would make things more interesting but damn, it's over before it even started. Team USA had some bad rolls but they just can't deal with the pressure.

I had this idea for a long time now, there should be a Reyes Cup that has the Philippines challenge Asia for the Cup. Imagine all the great filipino talent , Biado, Raga, Orcullo and young talent Amoroto and AJ Manas. Asia could have the Ko brothers, Yapp, Oi, Chang and Duong etc... Now after 3 years the team with most wins in a 3 years span would challenge the winner of the mosconi cups 3 year leader for the Legends Cup. So basically an Olympics for pool every 4 years. Matchroom please makecthis happen!! This would be huge for the sport!

@Idontpicksides-rj2zf I'm not implying that Philippines can beat all of Asia. My point is that pool is very popular in Asia and Philippines has a great culture of pool in their country. The Hanoi open in Vietnam imo was a success, it brought out big crowds and buzz for the sport. My other point is that we honored Willie Mosconi naming a major challenge cup after him, why not honor Efren Reyes who many consider the Goat. I belive many fans would like to see Asia and Philippines get involved in a Mosconi Cup type event. Maybe I'm wrong. It's just my opinion, but why not give it a try, if it doesn't work out and there is no interest you can always cancel the event

Tyler was very unlucky in his match. Feel bad for him and Fedor : hope day 3, team USA will be more competitive because even if I am team Europe, the lack of skills of team USA is painful to watch. Mosconi Cup is less and less a competition and more and more a show. If US players don't improve their game in the very next years, Mosconi Cup will become an exhibition tour for european players...

@GHOSTPRO4 most of that is rumors. I live a couple hours away from Bergman. I hear a lot about him. He still plays a lot of money sets around Stl. He has played poker and some other stuff over the years and should play pool more. But he still plays.

Team captains select who they think is best based off results, skill, etc. the captains this year are Ralph eckert for Europe and Jeremy jones for the usa

Given that it is apparently allowed, I think the idea was to let one player get in stroke and comfortable with the cloth, etc. and JJ must have seen something in the practice sessions that made him think Fedor was the guy, but I think Skyler has earned that spot and Skyler pulling out two or three wins would have been better for the team than if Fedor had been able to do the same thing.

It absolutely goes without saying that everyone involved in the Mosconi Cup is at least 10x better at playing pool than I am, and I’m a reasonable player, however…
I’m left completely scratching my head at some of these misses. The pressure must be immense because my local pub league players don’t miss these shots……
I feel the same way. I know anybody on team USA would flatten me, but I also feel like if they played like this I would certainly have a chance. And I’m just a skill level 6 APA player. Sad.
All the betting lines had Europe around a 75% favorite. Europe has 750 to 335 million population. You give anybody enough time and motivation and they will close the gap on ya. Not sure why everybody is acting like this is an anomaly.
