Sometimes, if not even most, the FAA allows Boeing to investigate itself and takes appropriate action to ensure safety. Because the 777 has been around for a long time, which means that they are using the existing mainframe to improve on it and not completely build from the ground up. The Dreamliner was built from scratch, and that's why they could use composite material.

    What worries me is that the 777-300er flies 13,650km with 396 pax according to Boeing and 777-9 13,500 with 412 pax. Not much of difference but when comparing fuel capacity the 777-300er 181,300L & 777-9 198,000L. Where's the fuel savings? I know that the 777-9 has more capacity but is that enough? A350-1000 flies 16,100km (much further) with 350-410 pax according to Airbus, which is similar. However they do it with much less fuel 159,000L !!! Of course there are benefits to a more modern plane but I don't see the savings. Houston, we got a problem...

    I like to look out, and take pictures, and it's nice to be able to do that without opening up the entire window and get the sun in your eyes.

    If Boeing wants to take advantage of their new 777X aircraft, I think they should also offer a twinjet domestic variant for Indian, Chinese and Japanese market, just like what Boeing did with 747-400D to the Japanese market. Range may be slashed by half but it’s frequency shelf life can be double by half due to tailored landing gear for domestic travel, which could withstand wear and tear. If a double decker is no longer feasible (A380 looking at you), then the best Boeing can do is to go with a domestic variant of 777-10 that could sit between 500-600 people. Say it comes out in 2030 after Boeing sorts out its issues, it really could put the A380 out of pasture for good.

  • @Daveomabegin

    • @XIIchiron78
      @XIIchiron78 2 роки тому +3

      Simply put, scale. Composite bodies require an autoclave to cure, and the 787 already required building the largest ever in the world, at great difficulty and cost. The 777X is even larger, so would be even more expensive and add years to the already delayed delivery date.

    Interesting video. Economy or cattle class is usually a poor experience depending on the airline. What exactly is being changed in the 777x design to improve things for economy passengers? Try using your laptop when the passenger in the seat in front of you fully reclines their seat. Or not getting elbowed in the ribs by the big guy in the seat next to you.

      @@FSXgta It would be nice in addition to a normal shutter, I like looking out the window during a flight but it can be obnoxiously bright in a dark cabin and make things uncomfortable for myself and other passengers. Being able to tint it on demand is awesome, but it'll never be dark enough to let someone sleep comfortably unless there's a physical shutter.

      I hate these dimming windows, because they are centrally controlled by the flight attendants. The window seats have their own controls, but the cabin crew can override whatever the passengers set the window to with a single button press.

Reminds me of the story where they spend a lot of money (some privately financed) developing the space pen, so it could work in zero gravity. Others solved this using a pencil.

    The 777X should offer an economy of scale out pacing both the 747F and Airbus freighters thus exceeding current economies of freight passage on current airframes. Both FedEx and UPS will buy in on this 777X freight frame in sufficient numbers to build an 777X "F" model.
