    That last part is such a good statement about this film. I've tried getting some friends to enjoy Cutters Way. Not much luck 😞

    This is such an incredible film. The symbolism of the three leads and how they feed off of each other stays with you...

    I’d say you pulled off a perfect modern trailer.
    A false sell that misses the movies tone completely and at the same time giving away a lot of the movies secrets. Well done!
    (I know a lot of work goes into this and I appreciate that)

    Thank you for making this. I'm going to rewatch this. One of my favourite movies. Around ten years ago they played this at my local cinema as part of old classics weekend. Id never heard of it. I thought well it has Jeff Bridges in this who is one of my favourite actors and his movies such as Tron and the other guy looks like Snake from metal gear what's not to love. The whole movie is a masterpiece. It's what movies mean to me. The suspense and ending. It doesn't need fancy cgi graphics. Just a old school character driven movie.

    Just watched this for the first time last night and I absolutely loved it. Great modern trailer, love that you’ve been using critic quotes in your recent ones. Genuinely seems like it could play as a preview in theaters for an anniversary screening or something.
    Also, a film I feel could definitely use a modern trailer is Todd Haynes ‘Safe’, the OG trailer isn’t very good.
    Anyways, great work as always and I’ve discovered a new favorite cause of it!

      Amazing, it always brings a smile to my face to hear comments like this! Also - 'Safe' is a favorite for sure, absolutely haunting. I've returned to it more than a few times and I still find new things to appreciate about it every time. The only reason I haven't done it already is because someone else actually did a modern one and it was really good! Not sure I could top it, but I may put my own spin on it at some point - thanks for the suggestion!

      @@DMEdit I’ll have to go look for it, wasn’t aware someone made one. I’m sure if you decide to do it at some point it’ll be great.
      And yes thanks for making this, it’s one of my favorite character studies/noirs now.

    Fantastic work for this very entertaining movie! I was hoping to hear Heard's "palomino" line. I guess I'll just have to give it a re-watch.

      I couldn't fit nearly enough John Heard into this trailer! He's so underrated. I also just saw Chilly Scenes of Winter recently for the first time, where he killed it as well.

    You won't find a better piece of cinema out there. Hollywood's not making this kind of movie anymore. Sensitive, dangerous, deeply moving and mysterious. Lisa Eichhorn is gorgeous and I'll just say it, she's perfect. All three of them are elegant in their youth, in their passion.
    This is a real movie.

      dude John Heard should have had an unstoppable career after this performance, but it seems like he (not to mention the film) was largely ignored. I thought he was fantastic!

    That Kevin McAlister's dad or Lt. Dan? Seeing lately that John Herd did more stuff than just in the 90s and I kinda like it

    • @DMEdit
      @DMEdit  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes that is Kevin McCallister's dad. John Heard was an underrated talent for sure. He's great in this, and also the Criterion release "Chilly Scenes Of Winter" (1979). Honorable mention also to "Cat People" (1982) just because it's awesome.

    You should do a trailer for the 1981 German film Mephisto it doesn’t have a modern trailer it only has the crappy trailer from when it came out

    I love this movie and respect the attempt here, but I wish you had not brightened the photography. I've seen this movie dozens of times, in the theater and in various other mediums. It never looked like this. But nice cutting!

    • @DMEdit
      @DMEdit  10 місяців тому

      Hey there, I appreciate the comment, but just wanted to let you know that I in no way tamper with the presentations of any of the films I do trailers for. This was taken from the latest Blu-ray by Fun City Editions which itself is sourced from a "2K restoration from its 35mm interpositive". For better or worse, this is what has been released and is currently the most filmic looking scan out there.

    • @terrilllankford
      @terrilllankford 8 місяців тому

      @@DMEdit Wow. I have not seen the Fun City edition, but this is certainly not the way the filmmakers intended it to look. It never looked like that on cable or in the theater. Or in any other DVD edition. Looks like they've made a terrible error of brightening the picture. It's not an improvement. Hopefully they won't do the same thing to that movie shot by Cronenweth the following year, BLADE RUNNER. (Can you imagine.)
      He was a master cinematographer. And he and Passer decided on the look of CUTTER'S WAY long ago. If the rest of the "Fun City" print of the movie looks like the brightened shots here, they've done it - and audiences - a major disservice.
      I love your use of Cutter's line "Great art demands a great audience, you know what I mean?" It's always summed up why this movie didn't have a larger audience at the time. I would add that "Great movies demand great transfers." This doesn't look like one of them. (Not blaming you. It's obviously not your fault. But find a better print for your own viewing pleasure if you can.)

    • @DMEdit
      @DMEdit  8 місяців тому

      @@terrilllankford Sorry you didn't care for the transfer! I can't speak to seeing a 35mm film print, as I haven't been lucky enough to, but I will just say though that any DVD or cable-era master should not be a reference point to what a film should look like. I own two different versions of this film on Blu-Ray and this is undoubtedly the more filmic looking of the two transfers, which is why I used it. But I will admit that I of course don't know what the film 'should' look like. Unfortunately, sometimes revisionism can happen, whether the original cinematographer is involved with the restoration or not. It can be a toss-up. But at the same time, I feel like the access and the quality we have of films now is such an embarrassment of riches that I can't dwell on the negatives too much. If you prefer the look of the older transfer, you might want to look into getting the older Blu-Ray that was released by Twilight Time. Hell, I might even sell you mine :)

    • @terrilllankford
      @terrilllankford 8 місяців тому

      @@DMEdit I have that one. (And a number of other releases from over the years.) I haven't looked at it in years, but I think it was closer to the original look. It's disappointing to think that this movie will be seen at this level of brightness by future audiences, but that's how these things go. Especially after the director and DP are no longer alive. (None of this is a reflection on your edit, of course. You are working with what you have.)

    This wasn't a great film. Rarely do I end up watching movies which lack any emotional depth. You can't tell who's feeling what. Only watched it for Jeff Bridges.
