Love it, very helpful thank you! I'm growing some on my patio in the US right now. I know it won't get that big, but this is inspiring and helpful! One love! ✌🏽🌱🇯🇲
I love calaloo, and I grow in my garden I cut it exactly like you did,I give a lot away to my friends, this way they keep growing more and more.thank you for nice tutorial
Thank you for the awesome tutorial on how to harvest cut and come again Callaloo. You inspired me to order some seeds...they were planted 2 weeks after my Red Amaranth and they have shot up and are at least twice as big as my Red Amaranth. I am so excited to experience the harvesting and watch them grow and learn their distinct likes and dislikes. We LOVE Amaranth. We actually had our first harvest the night before the last of the Callaloo and they are just as tender and delicately flavored as the red amaranth is. For a future video it would be great to know all the nutrients that Callaloo Amaranth is high in as well as the health benefits. Thank you for the teachings and for the inspiration!
Hi hi we use the dasheen bush for callaloo but I am see the chorai bush you call callaloo but very healthy anyway wonderful to see blessings to you keep planting 👍😻🙏
That's a beautiful plant. I've never heard of it. Google just tells me callaloo is a Jamaican dish, not a plant, so I'm confused. Is it Aramanth? That's one of the ingredients of Callaloo, according to Google. I'm going to your channel to watch your cooking video, hopefully I will get a better understanding. 👍💐🌱✌
Hi! I purchased seeds from you and my callaloo is growing beautifully. I recently started seeing something eating the leaves and some of my plants have holes. I’ve heard of diatomaceous earth for leaf beetles. Do you have any other suggestions?
I'm just learning about Callaloo. What temperature does it grow in? Also, is there another name if I were to purchase seeds? I've never seen Callaloo seeds anywhere.
Hi guys, introduce me to calaloo I try growing it this year but I must be doing something wrong mine look unhealthy it barely reach 6 inches before it started Seeding What am I doing wrong and how can I stop it from seeding and how do I care for it next year do I need to feed it, is there a special way of planting callaloo and caring for it, Your expert advice is needed thank you guys
*Excellent video. I ordered seeds from online yet my callaloo looks much different than the callaloo in this video a and is starting to flower at 3ft tall. Anyone know where to get seeds from this beautiful healthy plants in this video?*
@Humble Servants Homestead. This is my first time growing callaloo. Unfortunately, all the bugs and caterpillars love it. I rarely find a leaf w/o holes in it. What do you do to keep the pests away? Also, they say callaloo and amaranth are the same thing but I've never had luck growing amaranth but the callaloo is growing in 4 different areas, 2 of which are clay dense areas. So I'm thinking they're in the same family, but not the same plant . Do you know if I'm right? I see your callaloo. You must know a lot about it. They're beautiful. Also, do you have any storage suggestions? The few leaves I get aren't enough to cook a full dish. Thanks you and anyone who has knowledge to share. Be truth, Keep growing, Much love.
@@9ethergoddess369 Callaloo is in the amaranth family but not exactly amaranth. There will he bug holes in some leaves but you have to spray with a neem oil and soap mixture to keep the bugs off or they will consume the entire plant!
@@humbleservantshomestead7974 Thank you so much. I'm going to do that. I have neem oil. Is it better to use the Castile soap? Or could I use black soap? Or does it have to be dish soap? Thanks again.
Greetings humble servant. I came across your channel by accident it was in my feed and I immediately subscribed. First off your homestead and your color is beautiful and abundant. Can you tell me where you're located here in the states I'm in the Southeast and I have nothing with Clay so I do contain a gardening but I've never been able to grow callaloo and Scotch bonnet peppers in containers. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated
We are in Georgia zone 8A. We amend our soil by adding fowl manure( from our chickens) to it. After tilling and making the rows, we add black cow( yellow bag) and mater maker to each hole that we place a plant into. It's the same mix more or less that we used in our carrots video. We will be posting how we planted our scotch bonnet starts very soon!
@@humbleservantshomestead7974 @Humble Servants Homestead thank you for response. I did see process after binge watching your videos. I don't have access to chicken manure, will horse manure work. Plenty of that. I have used in container gardening with peat moss and vermiculite
Bruh, do you realize what you are starting? The wealth principles you are imparting? The life rich path down which you are traveling? The poverty causing void you are filling? Bruh! You are demonstrating the most significant starting place for one's exodus out of this vampiristic matrix. Be clear: there is no work nor class that is more valuable/important than this type right here. This is true spirituality, one that is void of a charming, blood sucking, sacrifice inducing mediator that orients itself between man and "Mother" Nature/God, for me and my Mother are one and the same! Hint: cancer is a mediator. Much respect to you, bruh.
Can you grow callaloo anytime of the year? Also how can I tell if my plants are really callaloo? Your leaves look pointy but my leaves look a little more rounded than yours so I’m wondering if what I’m growing is really callaloo.
This variety we are growing is called broad leaf callaloo. It's the original Jamaican variety also called cow tongue because of the size of the leaves. It's in the amaranth family
@@gennisparry4352 I know this callaloo thrives in heat so I would say when your temp gets consistantly warm. They grow pretty fast once planted and established
They are in the same family but you have different varieties. Depending on which part of the world you are in, the name may be different. For example it's called bhaji in Guyana and callaloo in Jamaica. This particular variety is cow tongue or broad leaf callaloo.
Do you mean they are going to seed(developing seed pods)? Depending on your grow zone and variety as well. We start our seeds around the end of spring/beginning or summer. The more you cut and harvest the more callaloo they produce. When you slow down and stop harvesting from the plants, they began developing their seeds.
Your callaloo plants are SO big and leafy! Mine are potted outside in the back porch and stems are red and hard and NEVER get that big. I’m using my own compost to fertilize (no chemicals). What am I doing wrong?
It could be the seed quality of the callaloo that you have. We just started our seed for this years crop about 2 weeks ago and they are just beginning to sprout. We will be keeping the updates coming on how we grow our callaloo this year so you can see first hand.

When is planting season for callaloo ?
Spring time is the best time to plant callaloo if your in Zone 8a like we are.
How long is the season for callaloo? I grew some this this summer and now they are flowering. Should pull them up and leave them in the ground?

Callaloo seeds are so small... how do you actually plant your seeds?
What to spray on it
We use a neem oil and castile soap mixture to help keep bugs at bay. We do have a video on the ratio portions so be sure to check that out

I want to see how they seed?
