This is the song that made me fall in love with Nightwish! And yes, Roll with the Changes is one the best songs of all time. I wonder what a Nightwist cover of that would sound like?
The Goddess always seeks perfection❤😊, the other ones not so. They just sing. I didn't grow up with the 3 singers, so I consider myself unbiased. Floor rules supreme ❤😇😇😇 in the world of music 🎶. 😊
Floor is the most versatile of the three female Nightwish singers and she gets on with the band better than the others did, possibly through having long experience of touring with metal bands before ever joining Nightwish.
I see miss couch face she’s fascinated with the song all the time!! Thank you for you reactions!!! And I believe you are ready for the POET AND THE PENDULUM!!
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 Great Job I wanted to add something to everything you said that the other two songs were written for them and Floor had to learn this within 48 hours and make it her own a bit.I thought after 2015 that songs for Floor, her voice and tactics, were made by Thoumas
Hey there Mr & Mrs Coach. I agree, any band or singer should develop and keep the audience involved and engaged. New songs should delight and surprise and keep them fresh. Floor does bring a greater range to Nightwish and her stage presence is magnetic. All 3 singers helped Nightwish to develop and grow, in the good and the not so good times when their was conflict. In many ways, I think Floor brings a calming quality to the band, she is very generous in her presence, both personally and on stage. Mrs Coach is smitten once again. Cheers, Rich
Best opener ever from Nightwish! And another good response from you👍 R E O speedwagon from the late 70's early 80's is also great😘 I have the early albums here. Time to run them again.....
Thanks for sharing your reaction to this empowering anthem encouraging listeners to never give up and to always dream of a brighter future. P.S. Of the three female vocalists Floor is the most versatile one. Tarja was almost entirely just operatic & Anette was poppy. After Tarja, Anette was chosen from over 2000 applicants, but with Floor there was no competition as Tuomas wanted her already when Anette replaced Tarja, but Floor was the lead singer of her 1st band After Forever & Tuomas didn't want to steal her.
@@IliaSalomatin Then don't. But don't begrudge others who chose to. Everyone has different taste. There's no point arguing over such a subjective thing.

@@CoachCastTV I grew up with them and saw them in concert way back in their prime era. I've listened to "Live: You Get What You Play For" about a million times. Great live album! Many good studio albums too.
Hey Coach and Mrs. Coach. It is pronounced Vacken. And Floor's last name is pronounced Yansen. She had only been with Nightwish for 10 months at this point. All of the songs were written for Tarja( 1st singer) or Annette (2nd singer). Floor went out there on that stage and dominated in front of 82,000 people. They didn't know what to expect. But, Floor is the Goddess of Symphonic Metal and she won them over instantly. All hail our Valkyrie Queen Ms. Floor Jansen.
This song opened fifth studio album Once, released in 2004. After release of album, band opened their concerts with this song for many years. Best album in band's history in my opinion and in opinion of many critics and music publications. This is third song from this album that you are listening to, Ghost Love Score and Romanticide are also from album Once. Tuomas and his guys couldn't find right sound for this song for a long time, and after being almost disappointed they achieved perfect sound, so much so that this song was put as first track to open the album. All 3 vocalists have their own strong vocal sides. Tarja is best in classical vocals, Anette in jazz vocals and Floor in pop vocals.
Trying to remember if y’all have been introduced to Floor’s pre-Nightwish bands, After Forever and Revamp? If not I highly recommend you check them out.
Lets dig into this, Tuomas writes from observation and experiences. You know he has some well used pseudonyms for himself in lyrics with references thereto, so when you have boy, poet, dreamer, writer/song writer or ocean soul in a lyric, it is Tuomas referencing himself. The dark chest did and maybe does still exist, Tuomas as a small child found it in his grand parents attic full of toys and story books that carried his imagination off in excitement to all manner of wondrous places. Therefore throughout this song Floor sings "of the one” in a very high head voice, just as you might expect from an excited small child, that being Tuomas himself. Now look at the lyrics again and it all makes sense, Tuomas never includes notes or lyrics that are "fillers" or embellishment, it is all there for a very good reason, sometimes almost impenetrable or ambiguous. "Of the one with pure heart, once so long ago", Tuomas the Peter Pan child.
"End of an Era" was the "Wacken" of the Tarja era. It also started with this song and was very well done. Emppu's guitar work also stood out through the whole concert.
I would recommend another song from Annette called Meadows of Heaven. There is a fan made video that is fantastic. It has everything Nightwish is known for. Love your content.
👍Good one guys, the discussions about the 3 female front woman will always be there🤔,i think Floor is the best fit ,because of her diversity and gives the band the opportunity to do the older songs but, also explore new directions.Dispite the (big) differences between the 3 ladies, they ALL had/have great successes with Nightwish and that needs to have some respect, whatever the criteria or peferences people have, the history is what it is and i see it like Nightwish does,it's evolution.😉🤘 About this song, what a power👊 opener and surely considdered as one of the best(openers) by a lot of fan's.
Agree with your view on the singers. Floor is my favorite over everyone in the world..lol but i knoe there is precious few Nightwish songs sung best by the original singer. But Tuomus is the genius behind all of them.
When I bought my ticket for this concert, Anette was still the lead singer - that was true of a lot of us. Some of us knew Floor, but not in terms of NW. When she was singing this song, I think most NW fans were massively impressed and truly looked forward to the rest of the concert. It just got better from there. DCoW is a hype song, and doesn't get a lot of play and that's a shame. DCoW is also one of the few songs with a leading canticle - you hear a choral lead before lyrics sung by Floor. Usually a canticle is sung behind the lyrics (sometimes verse, sometimes chorus). You hear a canticle in GLS. You also see the crowd singing it since GLS is a song originating from the Tarja era and everybody knows the words.
@@CoachCastTV I planned this one on the tail end of a European business trip - I was in Denmark and went to Germany for the concert. I made a special effort to see NW in Tampere, Finland and at Wembley in England the same year. Getting too old to travel now (well, and the process is too taxing for me given my health). At least I can buy music and videos and watch reactions (which never seems to get old - I must have seen a hundred plus or more).
Floor was not full member yet at Wacken OA . She jumped in to save the big tour in Seattle just 10 month erlier , but Floor and Troy became full members after this festival . Greetings from nwAse Sweden
Hey team ‼️🤘I’ll give 1 of these for the hard rockin sound. Once again my favorite reactors with just great & honest comments. And a few chuckles spread in there 😀
She was asked to be a permanent part of the band after this concert but not right after. Troy was also asked. Tuomas is a musical genius. ( Metal Mozart). Tuomas wanted Floor before they auditioned for singer.,( Anette)
Loving your reactions 👍, think it’s time for you to experience another side of floor’s versatility, maybe try her cover of lady gaga shallow or alone by heart
Just in case you’re wondering why there’s a flaming cow skull, it’s because Wacken is a village in a cattle region of Germany. The skull is the symbol of Wacken. The first Wacken show was in 1990, featured six bands, and had less than a thousand attendees. This isn’t the first or last time Nightwish played there, but it’s the only time the concert was professionally recorded.
Please try to enjoy this music. It's feels for me that your're always afraid of hurting someone because of liking a singer. That's gentil and respectful and I appreciate that❣️, but you must'nt talk about it all the time imo. Most fans are here because of the music, the whole band and the show🫶
That is how you open a show, and introduce your new singer to that huge crowd. Most here had not seen Floor sing with Nightwish before, she had been with the band about 10 months, most of that time was touring in the Americas. The song is on the 5th album ,Once, Tarja era. It was also the opening song at Helsinki 2005(End of an Era DVD). The words 'Dark Chest of Wonders' appear on the dedication page of a 1978 Stephen King book. I would love to see them live too, but rumor says it will be 2026 before we see them on the road, as they have said they won't tour this new album, taking a break.
@fearisachoiceyouembrace WELL SAID, my friend. To the Mrs and Coach : NWA is a bit like any other large, unstoppable force in that every once in a while there are internal kerfuffles. I realize you think you can smooth over the ripples in the pond, but old winds blow hard.... I think I might have added an extra space there. Anyway, kids will be kids and old metalheads are thee most kidlike of all. (Coach: ya know how yo sometimes might want to just walk out ofd the class room and let two bullies work out their differences... that's a viable teaching strategy in this pre-school) Hey, it was (and still IS) a great song, and one that literally sets the stage for a storytelling metal concert. Personally, I like the brief duet of Marco's bass and the orchestral tympany.... that little bit that comes right after Floor's ascent while the calliope spirals and crashes down a chromatic descent.... great soundscaping. Speaking of This Singer (I realize I'm walking on razor blades now) I didn't hear one single 'creek' outta that Floor, but that moan sure got my attention. - Part of my inner-17-year-old-self saying/screaming out, "Pay attention... that woman is trying to get your attention. " It almost gets lost in the sonic transitions before and after, but it certainly does speak to The Dark side of this song.... viva la Dark Side. Non-linguitic utterances are a viable storytelling communication channel, and Floor knows her channels. Ahem Good reaction, as always. This song is a great way to open a concert and contunes to be a great way to enjoy my first cuppa joe. - - Blind Doc Jones - holder of the honorary NWA "Captain Obvious Award" for saying the stuff that is, well, obvious. ... must be why they put me in charge of the Department of Redundancy Department...
Couple of things to say here... First Tuomas' (Too-omm-as) has grown far more with Floors versatility at his disposal than he would have been able too within the limits of either Tarya or Annette. Then, Nightwish would, as you rightly say, have matured in any case so it's not all down to Floor Also, knowing Nightwish with Tarja first doesn't make Floor's versatility, sound, interpretation, audience engagement and presence any less impressive. However much I liked Tarja and Annette back in the day (and still prefer them in particular songs that Floor has also interpreted) I still find Floor overall more impressive. I could only ever listento 4 or 5 songs in succession with Tarja before her voice began to grate but I can watch 2 or 3 concerts in succession with Floor and never grow tired. (Though I do tend to intersperse a Tarja or Annette concert in a day of Nightwish concerts most of the time.) It's nonsense to say Nightwish is no longer Nightwish. Nightwish are defined by the lyrics and compositional skill of Tuomas. It should be noted that most of the 82,000 at this show had never heard Nightwish with Floor. Most of those who HAD seen Nightwish live would have seen them with Tarja, quite a few with Annette, almost none with Floor. So these people almost all came expecting another singer - and look at their reception of this first song with an unexpected lead You should watch Marco introduce her to the audience just after this - she is quite demure.
So this will be a bit of a weird comment, but I will explain why. I have been out of town for a while and was unable to keep up with your videos. Therefore I watched a bunch in a row to catch up and will sort of touch upon all those videos in this comment just to make it easier. Hope it's ok and not confusing at all...... Lovebites delivers, like always! I also agree that everyone is unique and more than one Coach would probably create problems throughout the universe. 😁 Queen, man. Innovative every time. Those guys just know something the rest of us didn't. Queen live seems to have been an experience. Unfortunately I never got the chance to see them, but it would have been a show. Isn't a good LSD-trip something we should all strive for? Floor and Simone are truly fantastic singers. I haven't listened to a lot to Epica, but they do have some interesting songs. This song was really fun to experience, very enjoyable. Loved the orchestra-parts, it made the whole song very epic (Epica! HA!) You guys gave me a laugh in this one, the surprise over the orchestra was great. Watery eyes huh Coach? So Rosé had no effect? Sounds reasonable. This is actually one of my favorite covers, she just does it so well and her voice really suits the song. The setting is gorgeous as well, would have loved to been there. One of these days we are going to find a ballad that makes Coach go "wooah". 🤣 Thank god we all woke up! This song actually turned me around on XG. Earlier I kind of felt they were ok from the few songs I had heard, but nothing I was super excited about. This changed it for me. The flows and the wordplay in Woke Up makes seasoned MCs take another look. Will absolutely check them out a lot more. Don't know enough of their "lore" yet to help you out with that, but maybe down the line. Kudos to you guys for honestly trying to appreciate something that maybe doesn't suit your personal taste. Dang, this song rocks! I was familiar with Nightwish when you guys started listening to them, but going on this journey with you has really got me hooked. This band really puts on a show! They have definitely moved up the ranks of bands I want to see live. My playlist is "glowing" too, Mrs Coach! Since this is already superlong, I will throw in some recommendations as well: Solar - Blues (lyricsvideo + live fancam): ua-cam.com/video/TGFLD-pSOtQ/v-deo.html / ua-cam.com/video/3BkT7Vud7ww/v-deo.html
Thanks for these suggestions, and good to see you. We appreciate all the comments and agree more than one Coach could lead to a reverse Big Bang or something.
Floor release her first solo album (not metal), please watch Fire music video. On a TV show she sing Phanton of Opera with Henk Port, it was amazing too
The Tarja fans are just jealous of the talent of Floor and they never admit Floor are a far better singer than Tarja in all caterories. Floor are one of the top 5 singer in the world all kind of style of music because of her versability. Opera, metal, graul, pop ,grit and charisma. She are the full package. always on pitch. Perfect fit for Nightwish. All the songs of Nightwish are better live with Floor than Tarja.
That is an absurd statement. Music and art are subjective. People like what they like. Floor may very well have more versatility, but that does not mean that people will (or should) like her voice more. There is simply no reason to make comparisons in the first place. It is quite childish when you think of it. I have been fortunate to see both perform live and they were both incredible I have also seen performers with more non-traditional voices, like Peter Gabriel, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), and others, who were also all incredible.
I can recognize that Tarja is better at operatic voice, but unfortunately... it's really all she's great at. I personally also don't like Tarja's english accent but that point is 100% subjective.
@@Erfedwe Concur. If we are being objective and not just fanboying/girling there are definitely songs where I like Tarja's approach more than Floor's or I like them equally.
@@Erfedwe Sorry, but no. There are indeed means to understand if someone is a better musician or singer. Also singers have technics, not just guitar players. Now, does a technically good summer automatically make a summary that will be successful? No. It also didn't make you a great performer. I got into nightwish with Tarja and I loved her voice. But you know what? Yes, she had a limited spectrum and moreover, sometimes get accent when singing was a little too much. I do not take away from Tarja, she is a good singer and she definitely helped bringing nightwish to the public light. But nightwish would not have moved much musically, and never gotten this big with her. Too many dislikes her operatic singing style. I have quite a lot of friends that liked the music, but not the singing back then. Floor simply had more tools in her toolbox and knows very well how to use them. Also I think she's a better performer. Tarja is good in stage, but Floor knows how the REALLY get a crowd going. I do understand that some people prefer "old Nightwish" and are somewhat sad it doesn't first anymore. But nightwish matured and grew. I agree that in a FEW old songs tarjas voice might work better, at least when sung in operatic style. But most songs from Tarja and Annette, sorry, Floor simply made them better. I just hate when some people say Tarja is better, that is indeed absurd, it's just great they love in the past and prefer her and her singing, that they still can't get over it that the band is continuously changing. And sorry, but that's why they are still around and more successful that ever. They evolve and grow, they change and adjust.
Floor fans are always so toxic. Good thing I'm not with you. There are many Nightwish songs where Tarja sings better than Floor, and there are even Nightwish songs that Floor will never sing because she can't do it as well as Tarja.
Talking about experience, IMHO Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzen both are better singers now than when they were in Nightwish. Them both were quite young then, oh so long ago...
Just live your continued Nightwish Journey An interesting Dynamic between Tuomas and his lead singers When ……… Tuomas had Tarja He was handed a Stradivarius 💥 Tuomas had Anette He was handed a Steinway 💥 Tuomas has Floor He was handed the Whole Orchestra 💥 Sorry my honest opinion
Why don't you have the true classic Nightwish voice? The very voice that the old fans loved, the one that made it hard for many to listen to Floor. !!!React to "Nightwish - The Phantom of the Opera" live from 2005!
Although these 82,000 represents a decade's worth of Nightwish fans, no one had ever seen Floor before. She joined the band several months earlier when the band was in their US leg of the tour. Floor had never been on a Nightwish album. That would not happen until two years later.
"No one had ever seen Floor before...." utter rubbish ! Many of the 82,000 will have seen Floor & After Forever supporting Nightish on various tours and at festivals. She was already well known throughout Europe from her work with ReVamp, Arjen and, of course, AF. Do you really think fans from all over the world only follow one band?
@@richardwest6358 What I meant was no one had seen Floor in this capacity. Taking the reins as the lead singer. They had seen Tarja and Annette. I did not say no one ever heard of FLOOR before.
so, you said it. They had time to become so good, didn´t you ? well, let´s listen to "Elvenpath", the 1st track of their debut album...from 1997 and "Beauty *OF* the beast" from 2001, and then tell (me) again for what they needed time ... ;) deal ?
Didn't say they weren't great from the beginning, but you either move forward in life or you stagnate. I'd imagine even they would admit that they are better overall now than when they began. If not, that would be shocking that they worked all these years and did not improve at all.
@@CoachCastTV i listen to them since they put out music as Nightwish, i lived all that drama that came with the change of main vocalists, and i think i am able to tell you, you just need to know their origins so you can see that progress that goes through (the rest of) the band to push it to the next level... :) and i just want to add some songs to Ms. Coachs playlist that were not requested heavily or they came late in Gabriel´s Link library ;) i will add "Pharaoh sails to Orion", live 2001 this is early Nightwish live, even without Marko ...
Of course it's fine if you like one singer more than others. I also like you more than some other Reactors.🫶 But talking disparagingly about the others... just has no class. I wonder if you've already planned the big, long NW songs...? And a song that I also really like is "Shoemaker" Preferably from the Hellfest 2022 with Floor in the evening sun...
Thanks for the great comment. Good to see you!
Best opener ever from Nightwish! And another good response from you👍
R E O speedwagon from the late 70's early 80's is also great😘 I have the early albums here. Time to run them again.....
Yes, REO Speedwagon was one of Coach's first bands he got hooked on.
Floors Voice draws you inn,and touch your feelings
Just love your reactions! ✨
Thank you so much!!
So nice your journey goes on , still got some big ones to come 🥰😇 can t wait and looking forward to your reaction
I once read a comment that said "Tarja sang at you, Anette sang to you, Floor sings for you." That, to me, explains the difference.
Interesting.
Floor doesn't sing at all; it's impossible to listen to after Tarja.
@@IliaSalomatin Then don't. But don't begrudge others who chose to. Everyone has different taste. There's no point arguing over such a subjective thing.
You should watch the documentary " learn the setlist in 48 hours". It's about Floor joining Nightwish
Mr. and Mrs. Coach are just starting to get into Nightwish it's a long Journey!!!
you're both so true..3 ladie's, 3 different styles. all in their personal way and sound.. Floor is a mix of the earlier 2 with a twist.. story telling. emotions and if wanted Growls. thank you for your reactions. s u soon again. greets from the NW Army in the Netherlands.
Awesome show opener, and loved the REO Speedwagon reference! 👍🚆🤘
One of Coach's favorite bands!
Singers sing what they can, Floor sings what she wants
(❤)
I see this was said before in this comment. 😊
The 3 we have heard from the album are indeed fantastic.
Trying to remember if y’all have been introduced to Floor’s pre-Nightwish bands, After Forever and Revamp? If not I highly recommend you check them out.
Not yet.
What a banger!
A very underrated performance
"Nice..." Yep, that's one way of describing this song. 🤣
Do the concert's next song "Wish I had an angel" too, it's another banger.
I love the 2 others
But damn.......Floor is near the sun because of her vocal range
I would recommend another song from Annette called Meadows of Heaven. There is a fan made video that is fantastic. It has everything Nightwish is known for. Love your content.
Thanks!
👍Good one guys, the discussions about the 3 female front woman will always be there🤔,i think Floor is the best fit ,because of her diversity and gives the band the opportunity to do the older songs but, also explore new directions.Dispite the (big) differences between the 3 ladies, they ALL had/have great successes with Nightwish and that needs to have some respect, whatever the criteria or peferences people have, the history is what it is and i see it like Nightwish does,it's evolution.😉🤘
About this song, what a power👊 opener and surely considdered as one of the best(openers) by a lot of fan's.
Floor + Nightwish = ❤❤❤
Very cool info and that you were there.
@@jeffreyphipps1507 It's great that it still brings you joy. Awesome that you got to see them multiple times live.
That's how you start a show. Tarja grew on me
Floor was not full member yet at Wacken OA .
And a few chuckles spread in there 😀
We always appreciate you, Tom.
Interesting. We saw Jinjer perform there also.
There is simply no one like Floor
Please try to enjoy this music. It's feels for me that your're always afraid of hurting someone because of liking a singer. That's gentil and respectful and I appreciate that❣️, but you must'nt talk about it all the time imo. Most fans are here because of the music, the whole band and the show🫶
Watch 2:48 Marko and Emppu making a scissor movement as to let the new queen enter the stage❤
To me it's more of an 'opening a portal' movement.
Kiitos Thank You TUOMAS HOLOPAINEN for this Music.!!!
@fearisachoiceyouembrace WELL SAID, my friend.
(Coach: ya know how yo sometimes might want to just walk out ofd the class room and let two bullies work out their differences... that's a viable teaching strategy in this pre-school)
Hey, it was (and still IS) a great song, and one that literally sets the stage for a storytelling metal concert.
Ahem
Good reaction, as always.
LOL...great comment. We appreciate you!
Awesome! ... And, yes, you were correct when you said "Vokken," to use phonetic spelling that makes sense to our American ear.
Couple of things to say here...
First Tuomas' (Too-omm-as) has grown far more with Floors versatility at his disposal than he would have been able too within the limits of either Tarya or Annette.
Then, Nightwish would, as you rightly say, have matured in any case so it's not all down to Floor
Also, knowing Nightwish with Tarja first doesn't make Floor's versatility, sound, interpretation, audience engagement and presence any less impressive.
(Though I do tend to intersperse a Tarja or Annette concert in a day of Nightwish concerts most of the time.)
It's nonsense to say Nightwish is no longer Nightwish.
So these people almost all came expecting another singer - and look at their reception of this first song with an unexpected lead
You should watch Marco introduce her to the audience just after this - she is quite demure.
What is also quite awesome - Floor technically was not a permanent member of the band at this concert.
Queen, man.
Thank god we all woke up!
Since this is already superlong, I will throw in some recommendations as well:

Well, that's how you have an army immediately in the palm of your hands: all you have to do is enter(if you are Floor🌷Jansen).
Tarja has become even better after leaving Nightwish. Do check out some of her recent solo work.
Floor release her first solo album (not metal), please watch Fire music video.
On a TV show she sing Phanton of Opera with Henk Port, it was amazing too
Música maravilhosa! Mas quando vocês vão reagir a THE POET AND THE PENDULUM e THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH???
Thanks
Now that's how you open a concert.
You simply must watch End of an Era version of this song on your spare time.
@@Erfedwe
Sorry, but no.
There are many Nightwish songs where Tarja sings better than Floor, and there are even Nightwish songs that Floor will never sing because she can't do it as well as Tarja.
which of the two will be the first to make a beautiful windmill?

Talking about experience, IMHO Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzen both are better singers now than when they were in Nightwish. Them both were quite young then, oh so long ago...

He was handed a Steinway 💥
Tuomas has Floor
He was handed the Whole Orchestra 💥

They had time to become so good, didn´t you ?
well, let´s listen to "Elvenpath", the 1st track of their debut album...from 1997
and "Beauty *OF* the beast" from 2001, and then tell (me) again for what they needed time ... ;)
deal ?
Didn't say they weren't great from the beginning, but you either move forward in life or you stagnate. I'd imagine even they would admit that they are better overall now than when they began. If not, that would be shocking that they worked all these years and did not improve at all.
@@CoachCastTV i listen to them since they put out music as Nightwish, i lived all that drama that came with the change of main vocalists, and i think i am able to tell you, you just need to know their origins so you can see that progress that goes through (the rest of) the band to push it to the next level... :)
and i just want to add some songs to Ms. Coachs playlist that were not requested heavily or they came late in Gabriel´s Link library ;)
i will add "Pharaoh sails to Orion", live 2001

Of course it's fine if you like one singer more than others. I also like you more than some other Reactors.🫶 But talking disparagingly about the others... just has no class. I wonder if you've already planned the big, long NW songs...? And a song that I also really like is "Shoemaker" Preferably from the Hellfest 2022 with Floor in the evening sun...
