Tom hanks is in that platinum of actors, grew up as a kid watching his films and still do now, I haven’t watched all his films but well over half, and I can’t say I have watched a bad one yet!!
Agreed, @kdub4318, it's incredible! But I double checked, this is the actual amount. Actually, it was sort of an experiment project, the first of it's kind. They didn't expect such success and Tom hade no backend deal in this case.

Fair point, @johnjamele! I was doing very basic math with the budget and box office to keep my videos simple, but I see now that it wasn't my best decision. I'm refining my labeling strategy going forward. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Good observation, @Angry_Old_Man_In_Pain! They can certainly make educated guesses, as this is their profession. However, the paychecks shown in this video include not just his upfront salary, but also any additional earnings from backend deals-meaning if the movie does well, he earns a lot more.

I've always wondered how they actually get paid. Is it a cashier's check for $20million, or an EFT? I guess there are banks accustomed to this level of deposits.
Great question, @sstrick500. They typically get paid through simple bank transfers, just like regular jobs. For huge sums, payments might come in installments, especially for backend deals.
I'm glad you like the content, @aaronlisitza2324! As for the music, we all have different tastes, but I'll experiment with different styles going forward-let's see how the audience reacts 😉
It astounding to me the amount of money people get paid to pretend for a living. I don't fault them for taking it because if someone is going to pay them go for it. It's really kind of sad that as a society we need to be entertained so badly that this kind of money is available to them.
No need to be sad - The only reason an actor gets paid what they get paid is that whoever is paying them is making even more. Same as whoever pays you.
@@ROGER2095 Go back & read that again. I said it’s sad that as a society we need to be entertained so badly that this kind of money is available to them. Fortunately for me I am Self employed so who pays me is me and he’s pretty agreeable.

I love your connect and it took me back to ancient days. How human nature needs entertainment. Ancient Rome did it best with gladiators and lions eating Christians, then fat forward to 20tg century when you bigotry that get a big audience when see picks of children at a hanging during the KKK rise of terror. Now today when Will Smith smacked Chris Rock people almost sold out his stand up comedy shows just to see or hear what he would say about it. Human nature it's a beast!
That was just on-screen AIDS only @noelht1 😉 By the way, at the time, it was considered a risky project tackling a sensitive subject. Hanks took a pay cut because he believed in the film and its message, plus his career wasn’t quite as huge as it became later. It paid off, though, since it won him an Oscar!
Risky casting too. Until then Hanks was known almost entirely for light hearted comedies where he was bankable. However he was an unknown quantity at the time when it came to a heavy drama like Philidelphia. Fantastic career move in hindsight since it pushed his stardom to the next level.
Great observation, @MLawrence-z9k! You're absolutely right-he received a relatively small upfront payment. The insane amount shown in the video comes from a backend deal; he earned a share of the profits.
Great question, @lfr230! The paychecks I reveal in this video include potential backend deals, meaning the actor receives a portion of the film’s earnings in addition to their upfront salary. So basically, not all the paychecks you see were paid strictly from the budget.
That may be true, @craigster1234, but let’s not forget that it’s us, the people, who give them these immense paychecks. Our attention is their currency.
See Toy Story? $50k. The back end of that deal…….huge % of the Box Office. He laughed louder than hell on that one. Tom Cruise has had a few back end deals and he bought a $70m private jet! I would pretend to be OJ Simpson for that!!

Great question, @_garebear! The film was costly to produce as they filmed in remote spots, paused for months so Hanks could lose weight, and had intricate plane crash scenes requiring expensive visual effects. Plus, Hanks' salary and the top-notch crew didn’t come cheap!

Great question, @aijokker! Hollywood actors usually pay around 37% in federal taxes, plus state taxes that can be 10% or more, and sometimes local taxes too. So, when you add it all up, they can end up paying over 50% in taxes, especially after accounting for things like agent fees and other work-related expenses!
