  • People often ask me why I don’t use a wheelchair more often. So, I decided to make a video on that topic and show you guys what using a wheelchair typically entails for me. It is definitely a necessity sometimes, but for day-to-day activities, it just doesn’t seem worth the trouble.

Hi Rowdy! Always like seeing vids from you. I cant say that I can relate to your situation, but I am curious. I hope that's normal. When I was in high school, me and my circle of friends were called freaks. And in time, we embraced that term and even started calling ourselves that. We were the fantastic freaks. One blind, one albino, one with spina bifida, one with no neck, and one with a skin condition that made his skin super sensitive even to a touch. The blind one was me. I wouldnt trade in those fantastic people for anything. (I'm legally blind but I have some vision, just very blurred) Maybe that's why I like you..You would have been one of us back in the day. And I think you're frikin awesome for embracing life in spite of. That's what life is all about. Have an awesome weekend Rowdy. 🤗

Until I watched this video, I too wondered why you didn't use a chair all the time. Now I see why..... it takes a *lot* more time getting it in and out of the house, in and out of the car, etc. Much easier to just use your boosted board. It's too bad there isn't some middle ground. As you get older and your elbows get more arthritic, the day may come when you do have to use it full-time. But at that point? You can get a house/apartment with a ramp, a van with a ramp, etc. You've done a remarkable job of dealing with what life dealt you, Rowdy. I salute you.

Meanwhile, in Norway, you would've been equipped with a free motorized chair and a heavily subsided car complete with automatic docking for said chair. That is actually covered by taxes, no insurance needed.
I fully get why you choose not to use the chair, though. It's much easier to get around in a society not adapted to chairs, with a booster board and your hands. Lugging that chair in and out of your car is also probably not worth it when you have more flexible means of transportation.

Is it possible for you to get a kind of custom body wheelchair that you could sit in and just wheel around? It seems so inefficient with the chair and with things like the onewheel/boosted board you're still putting pressure on your arms and elbows. I feel like it wouldn't be too terribly hard to come up with something a third of your current chair's size that's possibly collapsible and you can just easily throw in and out of your car/house. Maybe hear what some of the people at that convention can do!
Also did you get a new camera? Lol I can't tell if it's my new phone or if your video is just better quality today 😂 anyways you have very nice freckles! Which I didn't notice until today lol

I am a quadriplegic, so it feels the same when others tell me to get an electric chair. It limits me more than a manual one. I can say it is more convenient for company rather than the use of an ordinary day. People have good attentions but most of it would make our vitals worse and atrophy our muscles.
I do not mean to put into perspective, but them in Hollywood are suffering greatly for having it all that life consist more sitting for them. When they use prescription, they can't control their vitals as well. They drop hard dead.
I say this not to judge. Our bodies are like air bags. What we do impacts us. Going surgical to remove imperfections that was created by lifestyle can make the body sick. What what measure it was gain the same must be use to lose.
You were born into the world like I think, so it is more an adaptions. You must improvise and pave your own paths. You have a positive spirit, so it must be fun for them helping you.
I probably need to learn and love Jesus more. His story is like ours. He was shaped in inquity and had no worldly attraction, and He showed us how we can have nothing in the world and have everything in God.
Jesus had legs but He walked on water. I like to believe He was on edge of falling apart but did what He needed to do to keep near the Father. All things are possible with Him.
I like to believe there is nothing wrong with you but with us more. I was an athlete that had to relearn everything at 18. It is a tough road but I am becoming beautiful inward like you as Jesus was.
God bless. I lie not. Jesus returns, and I say with a smile. I can say without a doubt He talks from Heaven. God Father and the Lord Jesus be with you.

Hi. That looks very exhausting. Is there some type of rack but you can put on the back of your car like they use for bicycles? Or maybe there's some other sort of rack that would be specifically for wheelchairs that wouldn't block your trunk. Sometimes prosthetists are super creative and you might brainstorm with one and see if there's something they could create to make it easier for you. That doesn't seem like it would be a complicated project for somebody who is always thinking about making adaptive devices. So anyway that's just a thought. That red one you use is like a hospital chair. Get a TI Lite. You know deep down you're gonna need one sooner or later and I get it, your pride. But dude, there are chairs that are mobile as hell and you'll be closer to face to face with people. It makes a difference

There's no doubt you have sponsors man. Nothing wrong with it and I know you're genuine as a guy, but --The one wheel first video you did made it obvious you were funded from the get go. There's an agenda behind the scenes bro dont lie.

Maybe a stupid question, but could you use the sports wheelchair as a regular one, like for the office or for other situations (non sport)?

    • @RowdyBurton
      @RowdyBurton  4 роки тому +2

Technically yes, but because it is a sports chair, it has a very wide base and can't fit through normal doors.

Aren't you a handsome man? I think you have to be careful with your elbows. I have cubital tunnel syndrome in both elbows which makes it feel like you've always banged your funny bone - and it's not funny at all. It's a wear and tear condition and before I watched this video I saw another couple of yours and worried about your elbows!
