  • In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, we catch up with Mark Drury to recap the season thus far and discuss upcoming hunting strategies going into November. After chasing cold fronts in October, we're ready to enter peak rut with some target bucks in sight. Trying to understand the ways of mature bucks is not an easy task. If you want to kill a mature buck, you have to think like one. If there's anyone who knows a thing or two about mature buck movement, it's Mark Drury. After years of hammering giant bucks, it's a privilege to learn from the best. Mark explains the importance of knowing a deer's habitat, predicting movement from weather patterns, and using intel from previous years to predict their next move. We hope you enjoy this episode of HUNTR Podcast as Mark shares his knowledge with us. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

    25:23 my buck in 2014-15 had a neck on him a little bigger than jareds, 27 1/8” just below the jaw, they look so freaking wicked when the neck is that swollen up. I got mine oct. 30th. In the eastern region of north central Pa. Absolute giant Pa mountain buck

    Lol at the end just walk around with a crossbow. Trust me I used one last year and for only 6ish lbs by the time I get to my stand that thing weighed 50lbs after switching hands multiple times. Carried compound in spring for squirrels 3 hrs no sweat.

    The MAD scientist, Mark Drury, one of the greats and always a lot to learn from him. GREAT podcast fellas! One afterthought I had on Jared's Deer in the Dakotas, possibly it was hanging out with the doe because they were siblings.

      If you also hunt unprressured deer and basically have deer on a timer than he is your man but the way he hunts is not reality for 99.9% of hunters

    Deercast? Food plotcast.
    You live in the Midwest and you plant food plots. That's what you need to do. But for the other eighty percent of the country our deer don't act like that. Is still very interesting👍

    I think the acorns played such a big role in the shift of typical annual deer movement for early season. Those bucks were getting hit in the head by acorns sleeping in their beds

    Good stuff as usual. Question for you guys. If you didn't own land and wanted to move to a state that offers the most and best public land opportunities where would you choose? Another factor would also be pick an area as a central hub location but within a couple of hours drive you can hunt neighboring states. This is also a factor to consider when picking a location.. thx 🦌🦌

    Congrats on your Tolke! Great bows but do yourself a favor and look into Lost Creek Bows by Chad Francis in Iowa. Makes the best bows I’ve ever shot. Makes a great reflex deflex designs as well. Good luck boys!

    I love your guys podcast, but was pretty disappointed after watching your previous podcasts that you didn't ask him his thoughts on the priviatization of hunting? And what he & his team are doing to improve the access for the average hunter that they made their living off of? I believe Skip even said you guys should be asking these questions to these big names. Seems like a missed opportunity....

    I was talking to a guy I know that hunting in Dodge county WI he said he has had mature bucks have an all out brawl 3rd week in September over a doe. He also said it’s happened multiple years in a row. I wonder if it’s possible that a doe could come into estrus early as just a freak thing?

    • @HUNTRPOD

    Look, I have nothing against Mark. However, its much easier when you hunt farm raised deer over food plots. Thats not hunting in my opinion, its killing. Im from PA and its like Eberhart always says. These guys come out East and they can't get it done. It requires much more skill than that. I do appreciate you guys getting it done on public, its much harder.

    • @HUNTRPOD
      @HUNTRPOD  9 місяців тому +1

      There’s a reason as PA guys we go to the Midwest when we can 😂

    • @Tspin317
      @Tspin317 8 місяців тому

      It's just a different skill set IMO. I think it also can be tough to get behind something that takes so much that normal guys don't have.

      It looks like killing when you watch the 1 episode but if you listen to mark and his complete understanding of their unpredictability and how even on his huge properties and food plots and cell cameras they STILL don’t show up like they expect. You should be able to see how hard hunting mature bucks can be, but if you don’t think that marks philosophical ideas and just knowledge of whitetails WOULDNT kill bucks on public land then you’re smoking some good stuff.

    • @glennl9630
      @glennl9630 8 місяців тому +1

      @HUNTRPOD you missed his point these are top dollar farms professional located food plots bedding areas zero pressure etc this is not reality to 99% of your audience

    • @joshuaraines7600

      Mark Drury knows more about whitetail deer, and whitetail deer hunting than most guys will ever know. Granted he hunts his own farm, and with outfitters on other private lands, but he doesn't just go and setup to shoot the 1st deer with a big rack that comes along. He's choosing 6 7 & 8.5 year old bucks to target, they don't call him the mad Scientist for nothing.
