Like, seriously, it's just idiotic that they encrypt these drives.
If someone steals it, they're not going to remove the drive from the case and the board that encrypted it. They're going to steal the whole thing and plug it in, so the encryption module will be with them. All the encryption does is make it to where we can't read our data when the board crashes.
Maybe I'm missing something, but this is idiotic, imo.

I tried this (ddrescue + testdisk + photorec + foremost + DMDE - Paid Version + Aoemi Partition Assistant - Paid Version) and almost everything I could to get data off a WD Drive. Now I read that WD encrypts the data to some chip on the board so you can not access it without the board.. I have tried with everything I can get (I have even paid for software) and the only think I could find is 2 x 4Mb HFS Partitions with WD.Unlocker in them.. wonderful.. just wonderful!! No data for this poor pensioner / old age person and so far I have been at this for 2.5 weeks!!

Shittest drives on the planet. I had two I used for backup. Both failed on the SAME DAY! Looks like the controller is dead on mine. Both spin up but don't initialise or connect to my pc.

11:!5 WD Mybook...I knew it was encrypted from the start and was wondering how you were just gonna plug it in an recover the data.

I would suggest if you're in Australia, contact Payam Data Recovery services for that 😲

I'm curious which 3.3V and 5V voltage regulators are used in crap NAS sibling of this crap. Friend mismatched power supply jacks, plugged 20V instead of 12V in his WD My Cloud (A1G board) and smoked voltage regulators. Small SMD ICs with 6 pins. Any ideas which ones they can be?
That casing tho. Friend's NAS have the same. We eviscerated it with four table knifes :D Even didn't broke anything.
Hope your hand is fine now.

Hi, What happens if you buy another PCB that has a different part number, you said in one of the videos that one of the control units had a switch and the other didn't, does that mean pcb boards can be different?
