Growing up in Appalachia buying a $5 knife from the closest market or store was very common. I never seen a farmer, hunter or trapper with a fancy lockback, or a pretty knife. Growing up knives used by most outdoor workers were typically a schrade, old timer, or buck. Most of these knives almost always had a discolored blade and most were sharpened on the closest rock… which most millennials and Gen z people would have a heart attack over today. Every now and then I would see the old buck 110 lock back and would instantly think “woooaaa, this guy has money “. Funny how times change and as some people adapt they refuse to accept a product or idea that was once very good and the standard for an earlier time. Great review buddy. 😊👍🏻🔪🥃
I LOVE budget blade reviews! And this one's no exception! You get your money's worth with a Wal-Mart OM knife, I'm seeing it for myself! Great review!!!
You are a brave man stabbing pretty firmly with a 5 dollar liner lock and I mean I know it's probably not gonna fail BUT always a chance and that is a frightening thought.
Finally! A common sense review of one of the el cheapo Ozark Trail knives. My wife bought that same knife for me recently. I’ve been using it for basic chores around the homestead. It has held up well, and the blade stays locked-up well, it’s safe to use. Like you say, if something eventually goes wrong with it, or I lose it, WHO CARES. It’s a $5 knife; go buy another one…
Project Farm recently made a video on several inexpensive knives, including two expensive ones. He is an entertaining fellow and comes up with interesting testing for products.
This would be a great knife if you have to fly somewhere. Stop by a Walmart after landing and pick one up. When leaving give it away or chuck it, who cares! Also good to leave an extra knife in the car. There have been times that I had to leave the house fast and didn't have a knife on me. I was glad to have a cheap one in the car.
Idk if you remember me saying walmart/ swiss tech has a Barlow around 30 i think. I'm really like the look of it. After your rose craft series you should try the swiss tech! I didn't know who randy was but knowing the knife community he was probably a good guy. My body just had his dog die in a horrible way. I'm really worried with Christmas what he's going to do. I got him to stay the night and get his mind off. Hope he can make it over here on Christmas
@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors no rush at all good sir! Walmart is upping their game knife wise. I'm so intrigued to see it stacked up against the current goat Barlow lol
New subscriber here. Nice channel. I also like the cheap Walmart knives for every day use, mostly box cutting. I don't mind frequent knife sharpening as long as the knife will take an edge. You don't care if you loose one. A most enjoyable video.
How the heck in this day and age do you even make a knife for $5 let alone sell it for that and it works for more than a few minutes....Nice job showing it off....Get ready for those Benchmade killer comments....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.....Good stuff...
These days you don't get much for 5 bucks and this knife was pretty impressive. I'm pretty sure it's D2 steel they are using which if true is even more impressive for 5 bucks. I like that Flannel shirt you're wearing it's been pretty cool out this week. Peace Brother.
Brother I absolutely love my shirts here's what's crazy.. when you first sent them to me I couldn't button them now I can wear them over a T-shirt and button them! I hope you're having a great week brother I will probably hit you up sometime this week
Its not a bad knife, I remember my first pocket knife, more like a small urban bowie folder. Cheap, but man, I could keep that little mofo sharp as a tanto, not kidding brother. I cant waith to see the rosecraft test on him, realy curious, because, that whould give some suprising statements brother!
Bro Scab, you refference to the clip breaking!!! The fixed blade i got, blue handled, the clip is adjustable, i did not stay in the handle Up position with mine!!! I epoxed it, and it has servered me well ever since!!! FYI. 👀👍💯🎄🔥🗡️🙏
Imo all production knives (aside from maybe machetes) OUGHT come sharp & ready to go out of the box but that is certainly NOT always the way it goes. 😂😂😂
Boy people are having a fit over OT now days lol. They are shit but 5 dollars so who cares but how people are talking about them being the greatest budget knives ever and it's a bugout killer and it's gonna make companies lower their prices because OT is gonna take their business away ect ect is totally bullshit lol. For the 5-10 bucks they run they are great beaters but how people are acting is absolutely nutz. They are totally serviceable beater knives but they are nothing more than a 5 or 10 dollar knife and that's what people don't seem to understand. Great work scab.
Whoops! Was saying, got one of the fixed blades, decent! There are several models in the $5.00 collection, next step up are about $8.00, look pretty good too! Scab, I think you are right about the type of steel, but been looking up a lot of specs lately! BTW, batoning the stickwas pretty amusing! Blsgs, Merry Christmas, gg🙏🙏✝️✝️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🙋☝️☝️☝️🌲🌲

This is like the Best Commercial ever. RIP Randy. Shout out Ozark Trail.
Merry Christmas to you and yours. Good video , not trying for a not so great pun here but for a beater knife you can’t beat it.

Good see Kurt Again. We need more of you Scab and Kurt.
Gonna have to say if it passed the Choirboyz test it’s gotta be pretty dang good knife!
I'm actually floored... I'm curious to see how it does down the road
I bought the gray handled one to compare with my benchmade bugout.. for $5 I will take the ozark trail any day.
That would be a great beginner for a kid. Cant go wrong with a five dollar knife. Thanks for sharing my friend.
You are a brave man stabbing pretty firmly with a 5 dollar liner lock and I mean I know it's probably not gonna fail BUT always a chance and that is a frightening thought.
Scab alot of cutting depends on edge geometry. Thats a thin slicer that held up really good.

I love that statement, $5 if you break the sob it's $5
Bought 2, one for myself and one for my buddy. He has a habit of losing knives, so this was perfect for him.
I'm guessing some kind of 420 Stihl for the blade

It held up surprisingly well huh! 5 bucks ain't bad for that! Keep it up Scab!!!
@@ReWyldOutdoors dude I was shocked!
Thanks for showing us yall. Merry Christmas
Hangzhou Great Star Tools. Big company in China. Alot of them are probably 30 dollar knives but they can sell them cheap.
@@ofthedawn thank you for the info really appreciate it
@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors no problem.
Great, fair test video! Picked up one of the fixed blades
I was honestly pretty impressed with the damn thing
The only thing i would be worried about is if the blade folds over my fingers.
Good demonstration, thanks for sharing, YAH bless brother !
Appreciate you brother Merry Christmas 🎁
@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors Merry Christmas
I ordered a Swamp Rat fixed blade and it didn’t have an apex , you couldn’t cut butter with it
Man it's stuff like that that will piss you off

@@LastChanceKnives I said that excact same thing to Kirk
For 5 bucks I think it's worth it the knife did pretty well
a Ozark trail knife and a pocket wetstone , cost less than 10 bucks and your set for any task you need to do.
@@anthonyrollins9825 I'm pretty partial to my work sharp field sharpener but I'll check it out
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors I was just saying you don't need anything fancy to sharpen it ...hell I bet a ceramic coffee mug would work.

Definitely good for the five bucks in a pinch. Mine is holding up. Just needs a few hits on the ceramic rod once in a while.
Great review !

This one isn’t d2. Only the orange 10$ one has the d2
Not sure man. $5 knife seems like a score, I don't expect it to do the job of a full tang batoning knife but I think it will be fine.
