I can really come to appreciate Macs music. Him and Kevin Parker saved me and started a hobbie in my life of being a musician. The greatest thing about about certain famous people is that they realize they don’t it to make a living or to be known. It’s all about doing something that makes you question, or smile after it’s done.
When I watched this interview the first time years ago I didn't play guitar yet. Now that I play some guitar, this interview is something that comes to mind a lot because the stuff he says is just so relevant and important and bang on the mark. It helps me on the personal journey as a hobbyist guitarist in many ways. Thanks for this awesome interview!
Yep. Biggest thing that resonated with me to keep in mind was what he said about how he “couldn’t write songs until he was as good as this person or that person”. I’ve been playing guitar consistently the past 2 years and I’ve been telling myself a lot that songwriting is out of my reach, but hearing someone like Mac who’s made albums and played gigs say that he had those doubts is so comforting and great to hear. I don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Most of my favorite songs are just power chord rockers or a couple short riffs. Just wanna do my best to write something I like and is unique enough to be proud of
I kind of buy into this anti-ad rhetoric and why artists shouldn't endorse products, but I feel like making an exception for musicians advertising music products, the advertising is so abstract, fresh, and unassuming at the same time. It's like they're giving you an option, and you can still say no if you want to, unlike other ads.
Gotta love Mac, he’s got a way of irradiating a sense of pure peace and mindfulness. I would react exactly the same, when walking into instruments stores and spotting those pop-colored squared packets. Thanks Ernie Ball!
