I really thought that he was going to explain string theory
Marcos Ruiz same brochacho
Marcos Ruiz same lol
Same fking clickbait
I actually avoided this video for ages because that's what I thought I was going to get lol I suppose it wouldn't have been that bad anyway seeing as it's Mac
Marcos Ruiz me 2 unu
his style always remind me of a drunk spongebob song
Ever listened to Ween ? That band inspired the cartoon
What's that song called
Hahahaha fr
@@JohnDoe-bm5lp ween is great, but I am pretty sure the sample people think of when they think of SpongeBob is actually Chet Atkins, specifically a song on his album "Chet Atkins in three dimensions"
huahuahuahua huehuehuehue does that go for “Waving My Dick In The Wind” too?
Mac is the kinda guy where girls would say " ew what's wrong with him" but then end up having a crush on him
I think it would be, "ew what's wrong with him." til they realize he's a some what popular, charismatic musician.
@Raul Martinez lmao i feel u u pretty sob
Shiiit they end up guzzling his custard. 🤣
Me
Because then they find out he has money and fame
My main takeaway from this is how much I now want a Mac solo set with just an accompanying vintage drum machine.
G3M333 yes
TBH for his next album I wish he would just stop speaking and let his guitar sing.
If you want an instrumental Mac album check out Some Other Ones. It's an instrumental album he quietly dropped on Bandcamp.
Seemed like he was messing around with a CR78 for this, though.
pretty sure he was messing with that cr78 and they were recording with ableton
"If you ain't trying to be something, then you're just being yourself, and that's you."
Damn.
Word to the mother .
I said the same thing
fucking
deep
God bless it :)
this is probably the best Mac Demarco interview i've seen.
agreed
Maybe Nardwuar's
Watch the one with fender, he's playing the stars keep on calling my name in the back but he changed it up and it's craaaazy
The fender one is so good
@@Wetwli he played it w capo on 2nd fret and the tone is so gorgeous, it's so fkn nice
now he can add his name to the back of a pack of Ernies
justawful shit I'd buy em
stick to D'addario
Or maybe a pack of Viceroys.
For the love of benji, smoke meth instead. Way healthier.
A Tree you know D:
"if you change all the tunings and then you have no idea where to grab chords anymore its like you have to learn it from scratch again. Its easier to come up with something."
this might be one of the most enlightening things regarding guitar I have ever heard.
Straighten the tuning pegs all even and it accomplishes the same thing
is that really your first time hearing a guitarist say that?
it makes your ears work harder
Main reason I own more than two guitars. Keep one in some alternate tuning to get you out of a rut.
I don't even play in standard anymore. I just detune the guitar until something sounds awesome. Thank you sonic youth, my bloody valentine.
God I love his tone/playing.
john doe yeah me too.
it's really chill and unique.
I appreciate that he doesn't feel the need to show off and play a million notes a second... to me that gets so boring...
in my opinion, when someone can play as few notes as possible and still create something special that grabs your attention, without having to wank off as fast and technical as possible, is what makes a great guitar player and musician.
john doe wish he had a guide to get his sound!
Single-coil pickups with a healthy dollop of chorus and BOOM, you're Mac!
just gotta get that sweet vibrato sound
Matt Glista don't forget the most important piece... PITCH SHIFT!
"If I can't twist it with my fingers it's not happening, not anymore."
Mac the poet. very inspiring stuff
I was expecting Mac Demarco to explain physics
Yeah i thought that too for some reason.
Honestly, same
“If you ain’t trying to be something, then you’re just being yourself”
My guitar teacher played in a noise rock band with Mac in high school! He makes me proud to be a guitar rippin Edmonton kid. I'm following in his footsteps. :)
Nate David was it makeout videotape?
Who's your teacher
And now he has the cleanest guitar tone possible.
Yo I’m from Edmonton as well
Why does he always talk like he's hosting a dinner party
He just always has some good words to spread
Raskeir :)
Kieran Broughton because he's bum sheik 😎
he has been trying to be heard for a long time
Very original
such a down-to-earth and talented musician; I love this guy
00:05 Me And Jon Hanging On
3:07 Because I'm a Boy
5:12 ????
6:19 This Old Dog
7:49 Treat Her Better
5:12 is "Girl from Ipanema" by Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto
I didn't even catch that the first two chords are kinda the same, seems like Mac's kinda memeing a bossa nova type chug a bit, would be cool to hear something in that style from him, especially the Treat Her Better version, those chords sound good all on their own.
I see y'all men of culture as well
Owen god bless u for ever I was trying to find the first song
Where do I find the full version of this version of „Me and Jon hangin on“?
The shit he started saying at 9:52 touched me. damn
treat her better boy is the song if you dont know
DUDE SAME
Yeah same here! I forget so much to just enjoy it like mac says. If it makes you happy that's what matters. I needed that reminded
the man spoke to my heart
James Gonzalez It's kind of hard to take your sentiments seriously when you use 420 Blaze It Stephen Hawking as your profile picture
This dude looks just like Mac Demarco.
Phillip Poggi you're wrong
What are you talking about that looks nothing like him. That looks like bon Iver
haha thats hilarious bro its funny cuz it is him
@@gumquamare8461 r/whoosh
Who's Mac DeMarco?
This is the most inspirational video I've seen. I think I'll go home and write a song. Why not?
justinnickovtime how'd that go? Lol
@@akillersandwich8360 well, we can assume it didnt great
Shoot for the moon! Cuz if you miss the cold vacuum of space will suck yer eyeballs clean from their sockets.
bro, that´s exactly what i thought
How can you not (even as a straight male) fall in love with this guy and his tunes?
hes a total role model for me, not necessarily the smoking part, but his authenticity and like his view on life I guess.
then you not straight my mans
"no, its not that,"
Straight male. Says GetSumNutz.
GetSumNutz your gay that's why
Best fuckin ad Ive ever seen in my life hands down lol
Weird to see a video with Mac in it that's highest quality isn't 240p
plsjustk1ll me there's a lot of them
Lord Fupa he thinks hes cool and thinks mac is some special hidden lofi gem nothing against him though
The guitarist who accidentally stumbled upon greatness by just "doing it". May your heart remain pure Mr. Demarco.
I was at this fine vintage guitar shop in my hometown Oslo, amazed by the beauty of everything as I picked up this pack of strings with all these artists on the back. Reading Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards and all that was awesome, but seeing Mac Demarco too listed somewhere further down made me purchase the shit right away.
He seems like the most genuine and laid back guy around, like he'd just take you out finishing on a Sunday morning and knock back some beers talking about life.
"Ya know?"
"I don't know"
"Ya know?"
"I don't know"
"Ya know?"
"I don't know"
"Ya know?"
"I don't know"
Jacob Phillips It's whatever, man.
Omg I just realized wtf
He can write a song with that haha
@RizeKrispy just like Paul McCartney* you know
twin cabins
You know what, I really don't know shit about Ernie Ball. For all I know, they could be the worst company in the world. But this interview was tremendous. There's a lot of this shit on UA-cam and even a ton of stuff like this on Mac, but this interview stands alone. Mac is himself completely. He funny, but he's real. The sound, the video, it's wonderful. And the way they pieced it together is something really special. So thanks Ernie Ball. Thanks to the interviewer and the crew behind this. It's helped me get through my day.
So sick to see someone showing appreciation for like one video, I wouldn't normally comment on like a singular interview but you did, and it's cool to see someone else throw out their raw thoughts like that, cheers to you bra
Lovin the positivity
This dude is the realest man in the industry to date
As a young musician struggling to find inspiration, I needed to hear this. Thanks Mac Daddy
God every time I watch a mac Interview/performance on youtube I get so inspired to make stuff. Music makes the world go round baby!
3:08 starts playing Because I'm A Boy, really nice to see he hasn't forgotten any of his stuff the Makeout Videotape era :)
I looked for this comment as soon as I heard it! I couldn't believe he was playing it lol
I love the way that he carries himself even though he sits on a personal pile of millions of dollars it's such a respectable quality
Cromulon pile of millions of dollars ? You are joking right ? Because Mac certainly don't make that kind of money. He's not selling out stadiums like Beyonce or Adele. And musicians nowadays don't sell CD anymore. And they get 0.05$ per listen on spotify or something.
Banzai they make way less than that on Spotify.
Banzai he would definitely be a millionaire if he made that much from Spotify, I mean chamber of reflection has somewhere around 60 million listens- which would be 3 million dollars at 5 cents, just for that song
Banzai Tf you talking about Mac Demarco’s net worth is around 3 million
@@awesomecentar4233 net worth isn't the same as how much money you have sitting in your bank at any one time
8:57
A CR-78 AND an LM1!
Mac's living the dream...
At 5:20 it sounds like mac is playing the mii channel song from the wii
Always cool to hear from you Mac! So insightful and down to earth, I appreciate you and your music!
I May not have the same story as mac but i can tell his music and his guitar bring him peace
And that i can relate to him on that
Squier strat! Nice Mac. 👌
MalyRasta 420 literally picked one of these up from a curb. Someone was throwing it out because two strings were broken
Tony Glenn wow lucky find bro!
MalyRasta 420 it's not just a Squier, I believe it's a Japanese Squier. They're hand-built and more comparable to MIM Stratocasters.
MalyRasta 420 I remember when I told my dad "hey I'm thinking about getting this guitar, it's a Mexican Stratocaster! They're sought after and you can get them for a good price if you look hard enough..." (mind you he has no idea what I'm saying and hated the fact I spent all my time in high school trying to play) and he looked at me like I was retarded. That also showed how racist he was to me and I lost out on a beautiful white with mint pickguard strat for $225
It appears to be the waynes world excalibur strat. Made in japan in the early 90s. I love mine. Badass lil guitar.
My favourite Mac interview i've seen. How can anyone not love this guy?
Watching Mac talk and play in this kind of intimate setting just makes me so happy. Thanks mac for always inspiring me and keeping humble experiences in music
been in a massive music block for a long time and this video was immensely comforting to watch
I can't believe I saw this man in person god he's so damn cool I appreciate him very much. Never lose touch with yourself mac
I'd never go out of my way to listen to a Mac DeMarco song, but I'll be damned if I don't respect this dude's attitude and overall vibe
I got in free to a big gig of his in London, and for the first 45 minuites the audience sang along to all the songs, then he literally gave up , stood for 45 minuites on top of an amp drinking beer and letting the rest of the band take the mic and goof off, really pissed me off that night , I’d have thrown by she square at his head , but I didn’t want to waste a pair. If I’d have paid... I wouldn’t have watched this video today
Best interview ever, I love the way that he plays his songs
Brilliant interview and production. Thank you.
this was so relaxing
Mac is a master of 'right-hand feel' - the chuggieness of his rhythms, the syncopation, the finger-style... it's really cohesive and expressive. That combined with his unique chord voicings and tone choices makes him the most innovative guitarist alive to me right now.
Brady Hilgenberg him and Mark Speer are my all time top favorites
His approach and simplicity is something all musicians should strive for. Great message.
Just love his attitude, it's so nice to hear these things when stressing yourself about your own music
this put me in such a good mood...
What a modest level headed great guy, I love how acknowledges how lucky he is to do what he loves for a living and make that much money.
Mac, you're the man.
I’ve never been a huge fan of his music, but things like this make me respect him a ton.
Such a humble man. Love everything he's done. ❤️
"ADHD or whatever it is our whole generation has". Hahahaha so real
He's SUCH an under rated guitarist, really. Mac knows what the hell he's doing !!
I come back to this every month, great life advice
This is so inspiring I love this. Keep em coming Ernie
i just realized at 3:08 he’s playing “because i’m a boy”, a song he did with makeout videotape, i love the one he did where he was sitting down with a girl playing it. check it out.
" I guess we're playing fourteens for the show, whatever" I died laughing lmao
What are tens and fourteens? Would you please explain? Thanks
@@kozhikkaalan guitar strings gauges, like lighter or thicker strings. Lighter strong can have a more light, mellow or chirpy sound, thicker strings have a heavier sound, more bassy, more thump, u know2
MrUtadaSing i know i’m replying a little late, but thank you for explaining this :)
MrUtadaSing String gauge doesn’t affect tone lol
@@Dampzombieslayer it does tho... put on .12s and compare it to 11s or 10s...
I always re watch this I love his personality and style I could listen to Mac all day
How can you just not smile watching thus guy do his thing? I love this dude
I'm so glad I watched this. He said all the right words
This my boy right here.
Hittin them big time guitar gear videos in his sports sandals and whatnot.
It’s so refreshing to here an artist just have a relaxed chat about his grassroots and inspirations.
This was fantastic. Thank you both.
Hey idk if you guys check these comments but great fucking job on this video Ernie balls guys!!! Honest, tender, and joyful, all the hallmarks of Mac and his tunes.
now everyone sounds like mac demarco
this actually gave me the motivation to use what i know instead of looking at others who are better than me and trying to be them
i could listen to mac playing all day long so relaxing
Gad damn i would kill for the b footage of macky just playin these pretty little ditties. Anyway you could upload that Ernie?
NinJaRed ERNIE please!
ERNIE! ERNIE! ERNIE! ERNIE!
The whole school starts chanting Ernie's name! LOL
thatd be so amazing!
NinJaRed no joke, I just found this comment randomly Jared. That’s never happened to me with anyone before hahaha.
this dude sounds like the entire earthbound soundtrack
Its somehow good to know that he has a serious side to him aswell. Love Mac, what a chill dude.
Gotta love Mac, he’s got a way of irradiating a sense of pure peace and mindfulness. I would react exactly the same, when walking into instruments stores and spotting those pop-colored squared packets. Thanks Ernie Ball!
Whaaaaa maccy boi is lit
crycry channel looks normal rm temp to me
Do you know what song he's playing in the beginning?
wow mac great moves, keep it up, I'm proud of you
His personality definitely shines through his music.
Unique.
Those wavey guitar riffs make me picture an old southern guy sitting on his porch, feetup rocking the sandals, reminiscing his long life and watching the sun go down. The smell of smoke, pine timber and old leather floating in the air.
Although a bass player, I think Mac just inspired me to fiddle around with my bass.
You nailed with Still beating
I'm so glad he found his way in music, I'm so happy I found him ❤️
This is amazing. Macs amazing. Ernies are amazing. Love rewatching this.
Always having to pause Mac videos to observe of all the cool stuff in his house . who else??
nobody nerd
Nobody ya creep
Mac DeMarco needs a cartoon with a guitar as his friend on Adult Swim.
Valeria MAD Sons adult swim sucks
that would be gay
No
This comment made me see my guitar as a friend haha. That’s actually a decent idea
He's so entertaining. I went to his record label's show in Hamilton a month ago and his performance was the best and I had the most fun I've ever had at a concert. Highly recommend seeing him live!
Such simple chords but has such beautiful tone and playing style
His spongebob tone is fuckin choice bruvvs.
he’s so interesting i’d love to just talk to him for hours about music and literally anything
one of my favorite interviews
could not have loved this anymore, mac is the people's musician, demystifying everything.
Can't wait to see you in September Mac 😭
Ima see him too! Are you seeing him with the flaming lips? I'm seeing him in st. paul, mn @ Myth Live!!!!!
Radio City my dude?
First interview where he's not smoking or wearing a hat
This is an excellent video, you can learn so much about making a song writing essence, building a character out of an honest mentality.
Very inspiring. His words not only apply to musicians but to almost everything. Nice guy
at 5:12 i thought wii music was coming
Levitog Bass thats probobly what was going through his mind then he changed it up
"Do you, let it fly, keep it real.. and enjoy yourself" :')
i watch this everytime just to feel motivated and inspired.
I can sit and listen to mac for hours
Lol, always looks like he hasnt showered in weeks and is wearing the same clothes for 15 years......I love it.
Lovely
I love Mac Demarco & this interview really captures him well
Loved rhe cinematography of this. Extremely well lit
