NYC Subway: R179s Enter Service on the E Line (1/6/25)

On January 6th 2025, 2 R179 consists ran in E Line service. This marked the first time the E has ever used a different equipment type since 2010! Here we see some action and rides along the E using this equipment. Enjoy!

Just a reminder this is only temporary as MTA is testing the R179s and how they operate in CBTC mode plus a more secondary reason is also Jamaica Yard is currently short on R160A-2s & R160Bs currently so they’re also borrowing two Pitkin Yard R179s to help out with this small service gaps.
