That's bringing back some nice memories, I had a 71 plate from 78 to 80 it was a devil to start on cold mornings. I found that if I stopped it by pulling the choke and flooding it then no problems the next day. I changed the points to electronic, it helped with the mpg.
Lovely car,I had one back in 1989. However, I thought I heard 3 presses of the accelerator - hate to say it, but SU's don't have an accelerator pump jet so it's pointless pressing the throttle like that. Hope you still have the car!
All V8's (not just Rover/Buick ones) make a distinctive cranking sound. Someone did explain to me some years back explain why V8's often need a longer cranking time - but I've forgotten! (Well, I am 43 this year...)

I see various rubber roof caps, ie spot light mount, & with that shade of blue I’m thinking ex police car..
Is it ex police with the grommets in the roof?
