So I was 30 and went through some very dark times. New dad, new job in law enforcement. And RC's helped so much. Tinkering instead of overthinking was key

I'm 46 too, Dad's gone like yourself. I've had Long Covid around 2-3yrs now and it's knocked out all my old sports / physical hobbies among other effects. Which is in part why I came back into RC as it's achievable. No RC tonight (took the evening off work for it but hey ho) as I'm too poorly again, but you're right about the MH benefits of going racing with like minded folk 💪

Suffered depression for 35 years. Found myself in a bit of a slump in Feb his year, it took a lot to take the plunge and do it but I found a club close (Barley Mow - Durham) and joined it. Never looked back - great close racing, good friendly bunch and nice to socialise with like minded people. I take my son and we both have a blast. Your channel is great as well, your content is on point and I look forward to watching you grow on You tube. Well done lads!

Great video!!!! Just turned 49 and can relate. I just got back into the hobby last year, after a 30 year break! I've been building like crazy and started a YT channel to connect with people. I love this hobby and the people passionate about it makes it one of the greatest! I can truly say this hobby supports my mental health. Thanks again...looking forward to more videos!

Guys, massive thanks and appreciation for the video. You're exactly right with the mental health benefits. Like yourselves, I'm mid 40s, house, kids, full time job and unfortunately a chronic illness. Racing had taken a proper back seat from when I used to be very competitive as a youngster, and all I was doing was painting for folk. In the past few years, I've been able to get back to it, seeing friends from 30 years ago (as we now show up with our kids!) It's not even the running of the cars, it's the motivation and the excuse to go see our mates and something to look forward to after a rubbish week at work.

    • @rustyscrewsrc
      @rustyscrewsrc Місяць тому +3

Stay strong brother. I'm battling chronic illnesses as well, and this hobby has been a life saver! I had to completely change my life after being diagnosed, and RC was there for me!

@@rustyscrewsrc you too bud! Life can give you lemons sometimes! I find all you need is some salt and tequila, you can still have a party 😉
We have an eclectic bunch in our racing circles, some battling illness, some disabled some perfectly healthy but on track, we're all equal and in the pits we're all there to support each other. What other sport can boast that?
Plus, my kid is learning about Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Electronics, Technology all while increasing his social skills and sportsmanship and not even realising he's doing it 😁

Great video guys, and you raised some very, very good points. I'm 55, recently split up with my girlfriend of almost 9 1/2 years, all a bit messy really, and to be honest RC has helped me so much over the last few weeks or so. Not just racing, but building, modding, watching your videos, and like you I've made so many friends out of RC over the years. I suffer from depression and anxiety, have done for a long time, and I find the hobby helps me a hell of a lot. It's good that you two are helping raise awareness of the hobby and the 'intangible' benefits that it can bring. Sadly I can't make the Popalong GP this years, shame as it's really local to me, but I look forward to seeing you boys trackside in the near future. You wait until you see my Clod Buster......

Hi Guys. Great video. I recently returned to the RC obsession. Had cars my whole life on and off and with two sons I have been working on them as well. Due to ill health both mental and physical, I needed a hobby that was not as Physical and I wanted to get back into RC. My sons Got me a Carnage and I went to town on upgrades. I am 53 and my sons are now adults and I can say we have gone nuts. I have many cars and an RC Garage in my garage. I also started my own channel. It is thanks to people like you that this all began. I especially like you and TomlyRC because of the honest open approach. Keep up the great work.

You young whipper snappers don't know you're born!! 😆 I was born in the 1960's (just!!), turning 55 last month.
And you've hit the nail with the mens MH, and being able to talk about it without fear of being dismissed or ridiculed can and has saved lives.
I've had struggles in the past, and quite recently, and having a hobby, like RC, and having friends you can get support from has made a massive difference.
Having channels like yours is also a great way to unwind, and chill out, so thank you for that.
If anyone is struggling, please speak to someone. There are some fantastic places to get help and just talk, if that's what you need. 👍🏻

This is what I like about this channel. You're always tackling the right subjects. I'm now 41 (hit the masters class now 😮😂) had some things going on in my life, but just recently I've been at my club every meeting and although some races don't go to plan, I always feel better after a meeting.
We men don't talk enough about how we are, what's going on inside our heads. That's why I support this as well as Takona, who do similar things for the real car scene as well.

Been watching you guys for ages, have a lifetime of cars , shelved awaiting my love & after 48 years of self consciousness & poor organisation, I’m so very very close to getting to ‘that’ club & as Flasheart would say,
Dooh -ooh-oohing ‘it’ thanks in no small way to you two and the fellas ( can I still say that with no offensive implications, these days?😂) who follow along. Just needed to say that, everyone, so big capital letter THANKS to y’all!

As a cummunity, the RC world is one of the friendliest and welcoming I know of.... And channels such as yours is a fabulous showcase for Everything RC... Even inspired me to have a crack at the UA-cam thing too... Although I truly don't know how you find the time to crank out as much content as you do 👍👍👍👍
