That question was critical. It involved a lot of layers one would need to consider before responding. He didn't need to and didn't ask for her permission for any other question.

Javed sir is absolutely right when he says today's music is 'attrocious'. There's no melody , emotion or depth at all. India has produced great musicians like Madan Mohan, SD Burman, Shankar Jaikishan......the current music composers (barring Rahman) are no match to these.
Not only Rahman, we have other composers as well who are really good. For instance, I think Mithoon is an exceptional music composer. So, is Amit Trivedi but it's the music companies and movie producers who have let the music down because of their greed. They don't trust the music composers and rely on remixes and old songs to sell their music.

Still, we do have some fabulous composers in this generation too. Take AR Rahman, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and Pritam for example. Impossible to find bad songs composed by them.

Javed akhtar is absolutely right. We should focus on the brilliance of certain music directors and lyricists who care to bring originality to their music. Also those music directors that continue to remake should be called out for being in genuine. There’s just no excuse, and the money is ridiculous. They make more money through concerts so let’s be honest, they make the remake bc they’re weak and don’t have ideas of their own.
Shabana Azmi and Smita Pail are the indisputable queens of Hindi Cinema. They literally taught the India how to act in front of the camera. But unfortunately the Indian media celebrated mediocre actors back then and these great actors got ignored. Great to see her. Thank You Anupama❤

If you think about it; what songs are contestants singing on shows like Idols and The Voice: it’s mostly songs of the past not of today. It’s because not only is the lyrics a form of poetry; the singing of the older songs can be used to test the vocal abilities. How many of today’s songs in Bollywood can test vocal ability? Not many.
The way she is looking at him all the time he talks , I admire them as couple for their mutual respect and compatibility

Every year we get one album and that’s it! Last year it was Kabir Singh album which was upto the standards. So, it’s not like this generation is not capable of making and appreciating good music, we just need do it more often!

Tremendous sentiments of this couple and literally don't elicit any sort of concept concerning the calamity of theirs on javed sir 's birthday at all because it's so dangerous and all that!
The thing is that while the songs and lyrics may not be as potent as they were earlier, in a year or month there is a mix of bad and good songs. This year tho I feel people are complaining soo much yet dont listen to or talk about the great music that has come out. Malang and Love Aaj Kal 2 had the best albums this year yet if you see the views they are not that much as compared to other songs. The songs, composition and lyrics were completely original. From last year Kesari had a great soundtrack, not just teri mitti and that soundtrack did get appreciated. So even tho we have the masakali’s 2.0, baaghi 3 soundtrack and super dancer soundtrack we also have the best artists making original songs. I do miss the old days but the times now are not the worst, but hopefully people understand the importance of originality and stop making remakes as well. :)

Actually, the most beautiful films of Hollywood are musicals. I don’t know why the tradition remained only on theatre in the West, perhaps for the same reason young filmmakers in India are joining a different trend now.
In any event, it is only humans with polemic world views who downgrade holly over Bolly or vice versa, but the truth is that there are real gems in both industries.
I myself find it hard to believe why one can’t say one simple sentence without humans inferring entire stories in their heads from it. For instance, one could say “I love Swedes”, and that translates to “oh, so you hate EVERYONE else”. Us humans need to calm down with that stuff :/.
God! U r right. Things have change in hindi cinema but the songs have depreciated manifold. Sad!

We should use Javed Akhtar as much as possible. His views should be documented in either video or print format on various social issues as much as possible. He is a brilliant intellectual.
Lol! About the music nowadays, it is so true in so many ways.... The drop down in terms of soulfulness in songs nowadays is so low that I have moved to listening to songs from all over the globe, may it be in English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Turkish and so on.... And it makes me realise how much I missed a freshness, variety and soulfulness in the songs within our industry.... Doesn’t mean there are no more beautiful songs around, but just that there are too few.... I’m truly tired of overly done remixed and boosted up Botoxy feeling songs!

An artist can have political opinions, and why, even favourites or allegiances to their religions, regions, languages but here's the deal: don't be selective. It's very easy to cash in on religious polarisations but the evolved mind must reduce and even extinguish such differences in their midst. Use your poetry or acting prowess to let people see the middle ground. I rest my case.

Disposable music is the certainly the result of disposable culture. Fast food/instant lifestyle had to be the reason behind everything moving fast. Short ki toh baat hi mat kijiye. Messages ki spellings mein se vowels hi goom ho gaye hain.

I'm in my thirties yet I share the exact same complaints about the current movies as both these two, who are practically twice my age lol. Loved this interview. And I also love how Shabana has her own mind -- she isn't the haan-main-haan milaana types.
