I read awhile back that the Mayor of Myrtle Beach caved by not removing a certain bike week because of all the trouble and shootings going on at this event. Apparently safety for visitors doesn't rate with the Mayor of Myrtle Beach. We love it there but see a bad trend starting to happen with the current administration. Law and order needs to be restored.
That is crazy!! I'd bet any money that if you try and pull that mess in 1 of the bigger hotels, the police will for sure drag you out no questions asked.
I know we came to the area last spring and stayed at a nice resort for a week. We wanted to stay one more night but they didn't have availability at that resort for another night. We chose to stay at The Virginian for our last night. It was super cheap, but very clean and staff was friendly enough. It appeared that it was family run and possibly lived there as well. The pool was clean, the property was relatively tidy... but you quickly figured out there were residents who lived there that were maybe on hard times... and not related to the owners who lived there. Lots of kids running around but the owners kept their own youngsters in check. We decided to go ahead and stay that night since we didn't plan to spend much time on the property, but left early in the morning to avoid anything shady. I would hate feeling like I had no rights to evict "squatters" per se if I were a business owner, because obviously they hurt business!
I read about this a couple days ago. It seems like the Myrtle beach police are not doing their jobs again. Which could be a good thing. Just curious do you think they should refund accommodation or hospitality tax? How about all the people that stayed and payed the 11% when the city is saying it is not a hotel/motel? Should they also get a refund?
I moved to Myrtle Beach in 1976 I know a lot about the town and a lot about the history that being said delivery joints won't even deliver it to these hotels it's real bad out there basically we need more police
I know people fall on hard times, but I also know that it's often choices made. The hotels have the right I believe. I am like another who commented, I've never known MBPD to shy away from evictions.
Hmmm. Stigma happens, old school hotels go under, real estate gets sold. "Hmmm". I hate that MB has just thrown away that era of Americana. Depressing.
Also the reason homeless are camped/walking/begging everywhere in Myrtle. Love MBPD... But the reason they don't want to evict or write any tickets is because of public image. Myrtle Beach already has terrible crime rates. Every person they evict or homeless they tresspass adds to the crime rate. #murderbeach #dirtymyrtle
Went in June to the dirty myrtle. We will never go back. It's the dirtiest craphole of a place to vacation ever. It's like nobody bothers to use trashcans and just discard their trash anywhere. We went to Sullivan's island in July and it was beautiful. A night and day difference.
Some motels have year round renters. I see weekly rentals on the sign. These must be not a permanent stay. The smaller older ones I don’t see why they can’t be a monthly rental but maybe the owners don’t allow it. Some of the larger ones you can rent year round but they are the rooms are individually owned. Interesting 🤔 article.
If the motel owners were smart... They would just get license plate numbers of every visitor. If they have any knowledge of something illegal... I don't care what police force you work for... You are going to love to have your picture in the paper for taking down a crack or fentanyl dealer. Said cars will rat if they get pulled over. There is no honor among thieves and junkies. If eviction fails a nice raid usually works. The door might cost you $200... But you will be rid of the nest
I noticed in your video, one of the motels shown is actually in Atlantic Beach NC. The Sand Dollar Motel. Shown at 3:13 on this video. I would know. I live in the area. Note the signage out front and the area code 252 and phone number on that sign. That is a local number here.
So weird, two of them on the list for me I dealt with because they like" in law" family motel. Had fun in the summer at one for many years we used it as a gift of the family benefits.
Love this channel. I also love Myrtle and own property but there is a very ghetto/shady aspect to many parts of it. Weird as it may seem, I'd be lying if I said this wasn't part of the draw.
There are many good as well worst hotels around! Some of them are really overpriced, and some worth of the money. But, also there are many motels for I wouldnt pay a single cent!

16 Years ago we had no issues removing motel squatters via the MBPD
Sad, because the mom n pop motels are getting squeezed out in favor of the big corporate properties.

Stayed at the fountainbleau Inn a few times. It's on the rough side side of town but the manager is very nice but it's kinda wild there.
