I have a 2022 Kings County BP i need to revisit. I only had a pour or 2 out of it and remember it being young and hot
The earlier batch I had was batch 16 I think that was 2022 I enjoyed that batch but it did benefit from air time
This review made me happy. I literally had this bottle delivered today. Can't wait to try it later. I haven't had Kings County before and have never seen it in my area but seen some good reviews on it in the past.
This pick is going to spoil you lol this one is my favorite I’ve had to date
Just tried it. It’s a banger for sure. Really good. For a lower proof option but similar flavor profile it reminds me of my Leipers fork bourbon bib. Has that perfect amount of malted barley notes to standout from other bourbons. This also from someone who dislikes scotch.

Cheers Bill, and glad you like the pick! I think they use single barrel in more of a marrying cask sort of way, less traditional to normal single barrels. Either way - was a great profile!

They really are I dig their cask strength offerings and they appear only to be getting better as the stocks age up

I have the KC B17, Lost Lantern Brooklyn Bakery, and the Seelbach pick. I haven't tried the Seelbach pick yet but plan on trying it tomorrow.
Let me know how they stack up for you? I hear batch 18 was recently released so you have that one as well?
@@bourbonbill I do actually have the B18, and the last batch of empire rye, and another pick. I really like their rye. I'll come back and let you know which one I like the best.
A store here in CT did a pick that was lile 143+ proof. I got a sample and it was good (and hot!) but prefered the batched product when tried side by side.
Yeah that may have been too hot. I find that most of these drink their proof so if it added a ton of burn but nothing extra the batched could be better
@@bourbonbill it was a lot of heat to cut through as well as an emphasis on barrel toast but hard to unlock any deeper flavors while trying neat.
The Batch 14 I have, even at 128 proof, just strikes a better balance for me.

I absolutely love my single barrel but it sounds like they added some their finest smog to your pick, Bill. 😂 Wish I could get some but living outside the US limits my options.
Haha they must have. I’ve heard they also have a pick that’s all 8yr and that’s the real deal so hopefully as they do more you get more opportunities to get some

I got one as well. Love it. I get JDSBBP Rye vibes from it though. Not sure if it’s rye spice or fig flavor that’s driving that.
That’s an interesting one I’ll have to have a pour of those together and see if I get that. Being no rye in the kings county mashbill I’d say it’s probably the barrel char flavor that’s similar between them

Ugh,wanted to grab this and a backup of the Bull Run, but was leaving for a trip to England and they both sold out by the time I could order and be home for delivery.
Ahh that sucks but hopefully England was fun. I hear total wines have that bull run pick different age and proof but maybe backup worthy and sadly though that was the best kings county I’ve had totally different flavors so don’t know when that will be repeated
That 80% corn/20% malt ... Is that their mash bill on *all* their bourbons?
Yes all their standard bourbon is that mash bill but they may have other blends that are different. But in general all their rye is 80% rye and 20% malt too

I haven't been able to get behind Kings, I pick up too much of that "small barrel" flavor. It comes across woody for me. Perhaps I'll have to try another.
I get that it does have an oak to it and if that’s not your jam much of what they put out may not be to your liking. That being said they are using more and more full size barrels with age going up this pick has less of that small barrel flavor to it and I hear they even have a full 8yr pick out in the wild.
At some point I'll pick up a Kings County single barrel. Love the barrel proof releases.
Yeah the batches are always good in my book but a well done pick is really showcasing some different stuff for them
Agree with you that the single barrel designation is a little weird: "What originally started as a blend of 6-year 15g and 53g barrels from Fall 2016 was re-casked in an ex-bourbon barrel. This barrel was topped off with 8 year bourbon for balance and yield."
The barrels in your Batch #17 range between 5 and 9 years old, and four different cooperage sizes (10, 15, 30, and 53-gallon) contribute to the blend mix.
And the recently-released Batch #18 is a blend split evenly between 5-year 10-gallon barrels, 6-year 15-gallon barrels, and 7-year 53-gallon barrels.
They also recently released a single barrel (#2021) that is a true single barrel and is 8 years, 326 days. It is phenomenal.
Ahh man I want that all 8yr bottle I bet that’s phenomenal. This pick really had a different flavor going on that I liked over the batched versions. Between batch 17 and 18 which do you prefer? I haven’t seen an 18 yet

You've mentioned previously that the Knob Creek 12 you have is the best of the (I think) half-dozen Knob Creek 12s you've had. How much batch variation do you find between Knob Creek 12s?
Actually a lot sadly. I’ve had a bottle that was not good at all most are very good but this one I have now is excellent beat Wild Turkey 12yr for me and I can’t say all KC12s I’ve had would do that.

I haven't had a kings county I didn't like but haven't tried anything older than 2022. But yes this store picks is better than stagg jr batch 18 in my opinion

Based on the first half of this video I had a buddy grab one of this Barrel proofs from the Distillery. The one I got is 134.6 proof. Hopefully its as good. I'll find out next week.

I’m sure it’s going to be a great one. The back of it should say a batch number unless it was a sib distillery pick but I’m sure they do amazing for their distillery picks. If you don’t love it send it my way haha
