This movie is about traditional Okinawan Karate and Kobudo, about their history and present. Martial art is the part of Okinawa in us, which we are trying to understand, and which connects us with this foreign country.
Our movie is about Slovaks, who regularly visit Okinawa to learn Karate and Kobudo from masters in traditional family dojos, so that they can become competent teachers carrying the tradition so foreign to ours, so that they can learn the secrets of foreign culture and teach them to youth in our country.
In our region Karate is mostly regarded as hard fighting sport. Sport for people with special prerequisites or for aggressive people. However, the opposite is true. In the movie we talk about exceptional fighters and the art of combat, which hasn't got the aim of physical brutality. Karate is not a competition but a way to perfect your physical abilities and a way towards the art of life.
In this movie Slovak and Okinawan masters of Karate talk about what Karate really is, what does it mean to them and what is the difference between traditional Karate and sport Karate. It talks about the way of Slovak karate masters towards traditional Karate and about the way of traditional Karate as one’s life style.
