One of the worlds undiscovered masters. He is my personal favorite. I remmber sitting at the Royal Ontario Museum as a child, mesmerized by his " Burlington House, Piccadelly". I would not want to leave! Incredible at capturing mood and light.
Perfect combination of music and magical art, Grimshaw was one of the greatest painters of the night and of the fog and pollution that was so pervasive in cities and towns at that time. Beautiful video.
Isabel.
If i had the money i'd buy one of his painting. I walked past a shop in Piccadily in London a few years ago and I saw in the window a painting I reckonised. It was use by Penguin for their cover of Wilkie Collins' "The Woman in White" - it was an Atkinson Grimshaw and I would have done anything to buy it.
@drsmapdi Someone actually did that in one of the other YT tributes to Grimshaw. I'm very glad that DistantMirrors didn't do it in this piece. I find that superimposing the name over the painting is very distracting and comes close to destroying the mood created by the picture and music.
An exhibitions at the Guildhall Gallery in London at the moment. Or if you have the money Richard Green are selling some paintings too. Wish I had a spare £100,000
