Equality of opportunity is a concept that is defended by even an average liberal. The problem arises when people think that it is achievable within capitalism, which is fundamentally incorrect.

Nice, new Yugopnik video😎 I think the idea of "modesty" and "keeping your head down" has been used so effectively to get people to accept the way things are. That is the main goal of many socialists and a number of socialist ideals fit that. In its most basic form, socialism is just the means of production not being privately owned. This extremely loose definition is why there are dozens of different conceived systems for it. For example, one notable socialist, richard wolf, advocates heavily for worker coops, which are socialist in nature. It is literally a business but run by the employees instead of an employer. This model itself can see extreme variation, but that's the gist of it. Socialism doesn't have to be as extreme as many people believe it to be. It is really malleable.
@@AlOlexy It's the complete opposite for me.

Modesty in this context is part of what sociologists call "respectability", that is a trait of the ideal citizen established by the upper class and enforced through social norms. The purpose is to preserve power structures, mostly by making the working class police each other and themselves.
A "norm" isn't an ideal, it's an average. See Foucault.
:o
Artists are given the message that they should accept a life of poverty - the penalty for trying to live a creative life that most people wouldn't dare.
Unless they are good at capitalism; at which point they are either heaped with praise, in addition to riches, or else vilified for being "sellouts".
I only consider an artist to be a sellout if their art is often critical of capitalism or supportive of the working class. For example, if you rap about working a shitty 9-5 job to pay your bills while making millions on tour, you're a sellout, but if your intention has always been to make the big bucks then you're just a hypocrite trying to make money off your fans.
I’ve had an art job for money handed to me on a silver platter but I turned it down because I would rather be a starving mathematician or theoretical physicist.
@@nathanpetrich7309 "I only consider an artist to be a sellout if their art is often critical of capitalism or supportive of the working class...if you rap about working a shitty 9-5 job to pay your bills while making millions on tour, you're a sellout"
That makes no sense. What if you're rapping about your own life experience before your music career took off? "Successful" and "sellout" are differentiated by more than money.
@@TheMisterGuy If your own life experience goes from, "The world keeps me down, it's unjust, fight the power" to "the world lifted me up, it's deserved, protect my power" then they've sold out. The fact that it's someone's lved ecperience doesn't change the fact that their views on poverty and injustice changed when they were paid off. Not every successful person is a sell out, but they don't all make their millions preaching about iniustice and poverty.
@Chudds Mackenzie You've never heard of trust fund kids? People who produce little to no value can still rake in the cash if they are heirs to fortune, and they can hire others to manage their money and assets for them. I stopped being modest about my skills and worth a few years ago. It led to me starting my own company, where I quickly learned that people WILL pay you what you are worth.
Now I demand that the people who work with me and support my business endeavors are paid what they are worth too. Does this leave business opportunities on the table? Sure it does. But that's just bad money anyway, and I don't want to work for bad money.
Now, when people ask me "Why are your rates so high?" I say "High as compared to what?" I haven't had anyone present me with a good counterpoint to that. "Why are your rates so high?" is veiled language for "I don't want to pay you what you are worth."

I agree with this analysis, however, just as Socialism does not mean we should be poor, it also does not mean we should live in hedonistic excess. The goal is not so that everyone can live like the bourgeoisie, but so that we all can live comfortably. The type of hedonism and excess today is the result of an individualistic, selfish society, and the goal of Socialism is community and egalitarianism. Socialism is HUMILITY and sustainability, not poverty OR luxurious consumerism. Sadly, for some reason, many developing countries - even socialist nations - strive to emulate American or European levels and standards of consumerism and luxury either consciously or subconsciously, to develop to the same level of excess and grandiosity as if it is something to be admired, saying that they deserve to be prosperous, as if the American and European model of capitalistic excess, celebrity and consumerism is the definition of prosperity. Instead of trying to emulate the disgusting excess of the US and Europe, the rest of the world should try to avoid copying the very same destructive things they do and seek another way of development and consumption that is ACTUALLY sustainable while revolutionaries in the west should be striving to destroy the cultural hedonism and consumerism that capitalist ideology promotes in their nations and redefine the notion of prosperity in the US/Europe. The world does not need "luxury" cars, boats, clothing, housing or any other such commodity, and EVEN IF every nation on Earth had the means to obtain this they STILL should not be produced to prevent society from descending into individualistic hedonism and the social division that comes with it. Instead, we need high quality, durable, repairable commodities made in a sustainable manner accessible to all and to change our definition of "prosperity" to that of humility and fulfillment of ones basic needs within reason.
I would see collectives of people doing "luxury items" just for the sake of it.
Oh, Ferrari and Lamborghini have a sport car? Well, a collective of engineers can buit it too just to tell them "F*CK YOU! OURS IS BETTER THAN YOURS, AND AT A FRACTION OF THE COST!"
Gucci and YSL have brand clothing? A collective of seamters and seamstress can do just to tell them "Dahling, you call THIS 'fashion'? Oh, my poor summer child..."
Rolex make watches? A collective can make them just so they can call them "You have no taste in accessories, and may your ancestors weep in shame".
Hell, even jewelry can be done by a collective just to tell the great brands "THAT IS BLING-BLING, MFKER!"
We can do those things BECAUSE WE CAN.
Marxism is punk attitude applied to economics!

Putting "bandiera rossa" in the outro fit just right 👌🏻
It's a tradition at this point.
Equality is not a political goal to be aspired to. The fundamental equality of human beings is a fact, and we all (equally) want to be free. We should be, and we can be.
I tend to substitute "anti-domination" for "equality" in political ideals. The aim is relations on a comradely, peer basis, without one person dictating another's options.
Utopia is not a place, BUT A PROCESS!
What strikes me as odd and contradictory about capitalism is that poverty is seen not so much as modesty but as pragmatism.
I have always noticed the right never tells the poor and working class to pool their resources and start businesses but to get jobs and work for employers.
This is partly why capitalism has a hard time rhetorically and intellectually even in America.
The Free Market system is not even seen as beneficial to the poor by wealthy or even modest capitalists. it's an inherent hypocrisy on their part.
Markets and capitalism for me not thee.

Problem is fear often is valid. Having been in an abusive relationship for a decade and even after leaving it, the ongoing trauma and internalised self loathing means " accepting the boot" was the only reality I had as an option. While simultaneously being told there was no boot
The normal response when you can't attack nor flee is staying still, becoming as invisible as possible. You do it for long enough time, it becomes how you react in any threatening situation. "Learnt indefensness", if that's how it's written. I haven't been able to confront bosses, the police, nor my mistreating dad without going full modest... unless someone else's wellbeing is at stake.
When I though I was getting braver, nope, I had just dehumanized myself by hitting rock bottom and dealing with the dangerous people that became my equals. Still can't face my dad, probably never will, but I'm backpedaling a path that would've eventually turned me into another mistreater.

You can't really win in capitalism. I used to have the mentality "Work isn't supposed to be fun. Abide by some of the algorithm's rules. Make sure you upload content with ruthless reliability--make an uploading schedule and stick to it. Making content related to something that is currently trending will give a needed boost.
Cash out any and all existing clout you might have. Any online communities you partake in, any friends or family or acquaintances who will watch your content or share it with others, utilize tactically.
Lastly, be prepared to not only fail, but fail repeatedly. Fail faster, and learn what works, and what doesn't. Decide how you are going to balance the scale between being true to yourself and your vision and being a player in a sociopathic attention economy that smiles little at leftist content.
My balance lies at 80/20, and I purposefully seppuku'd my entire social life years ago in a meltdown, and I upload whenever I can, not when I should. Thus, I am, by-the-numbers, a complete and total failure, and have been for years...but I have the tiny victory in remaining uncompromised for the day an angel's feather and a winning lottery ticket may ride a heavenly wind and hit me in the face.
Choose wisely, but know that there is no wrong method in a sincere campaign for socialism. Do what you must. Best of luck.

Fairness > equality. It is unfair to expect the same contribution from one who is less able as from one who is more able. It is unfair to provide the same to someone with greater need as one with lesser need.

The funny thing is the modern bourgeois form of modesty is also a defense mechanism for the class. Having seen the working classes rage at ostentation, theyve learned to pretend to have less wealth and denounce overt shows of it.

I can agree that it was good for the class of ''poor'' people, yes, definitely better than capitalism even if for the fact that you knew that doctors or company heads do not earn much more than you do, also for lazy people (unless you refused to work or only work was a factory drone and you did not want that - then you were sent to jail, unlike in oppressive capitalist West where you can be stay at home parent or just hang around homeless shelters or squat with your buddies somewhere) but for all the rest... I am quite happy with where I am in capitalism.
Lol comparing the inhumanity of living without a home to "just squatting with the boys" is cartoonishly villainous.
@@dominicpirola8240 "i am quite happy with my position in the imperial core" oh the irony...
Wow, looks good! Like the guy in the comment section said, I'd shorten the title. Would love to watch it premiere but I'd be asleep then. Keep up the good work, tovarischi Yugopnik!
You were born a rich man and have everything. I was born a poor man and have only my dreams. So tread lightly, for you tread on my dreams. Best line from equilibrium.
I love your work yugopnik, you always manage to make theory easier to grasp :)
Oh my God this channel kicks ass
There's a song by Facundo Cabral, an Argentinian singer among other things, that goes "pobrecito my patrón, piensa que el pobre soy yo" which means something like "my poor boss, he thinks I'm the poor one", which I alwas heard old people repeat as an aknowledgement of the deep wisdom of the working class and how at the very least we had hapiness, something that the rich don't. As I've gotten older I've realized that that mentality is one of the most toxic you can have. Sure, your boss drives a Ferrari but his kids don't like him, you have no car and sometimes go to bed hungry because you give your food to your kids but, hey, they love you... maybe, and besides you're rich in spirit! keep your head down and you might just avoid getting fired and god might reward you in the afterlife, what a load of nonsense.
it's modesty when you're a shrewd negotiator in the moment keeping in your boss's good graces by preserving the status quo. it's fear when you're losing in the moment, because in the words of ernst stavro blofeld and dick jones and pretty much every other villainous movie boss ever, this organization does not tolerate failure and now it's time to erase that mistake.
Something doesn't add up imo. If he had so much compassion and love that it had to be tossed away to kill Horus, how come he didn't do it before the first two murders of his primarch sons, who have fallen as well? Would he not have to do that in their case too? Where was his compassion when he was purging the Thunder warriors? Finally, why hadn't he helped during the robot uprising if he was so lovely and compassionate? This is all very strange and contradicting to me
You inspire and invigorate me to not accept the injustices that are embedded in the capitalist system. Thank you.
There has to be some kind of starting line for everyone to begin the race but it has to be a equal starting line unfortunately for the poor they are far behind the starting line, $20 an hour minimum wage free college and free healthcare is a good start, if a skilled worker can make 40 to $60 an hour then good for him and if somebody climbs up the corporate ladder or becomes a successful businessman then he can make hundreds of dollars a day but as long as the poor and the middle class are at equal starting line then no one should have anything to complain about, the pursuit of happiness begins at a equal starting line, by the way I'm not a Marxist I'm just a socialist Catholic.
This is so bizarre, modesty my ass. Modesty is someone’s choice same as pretension, doesn’t matter if you have more or less. Modesty didn’t keep any one from doing anything same as pretension doesn’t allow some to gain more. The only thing stopping people is threat of violence and fear which the government has a monopoly on, if you don’t wanna get beaten then kidnapped then don’t argue with your government .
13 minutes is not long. We really need to raise our standards.
You have real talent for charismatic presentation, mate. And a good method of simplifying ideas to be easily understood.
Laissez Faire government and Laissez Faire economics are counterintuitive ideas. Peace through strength, Laffer Curve, and building a strong state on a base of strong individuals given individual liberty and expecting individual responsibility are counterintuitive ideas. Conservative ideas are counterintuitive.
Liberalism is not an ideology, Liberalism is an inability to use reason and logic to understand how the counterintuitive nature of the universe works so a person falls back on their emotions to reach a conclusion.
That is why there are no successful liberal talk radio shows, because liberals need moving pictures or hand puppets to trigger their emotions.
There was a huge global study where they asked thousands of people hundreds of questions and grouped them by their answers. People that ranked high in conscientiousness also favored conservative policies. People that ranked low in conscientiousness also favored liberal policies.
Meaning liberals have no intention of doing what is right or making sacrifices for the good of society.
Young liberal women report having mental health issues more than twice as much as young conservative women and liberals report more mental health problems than conservatives across the board.
All forms of government other than Laissez Faire are made by people that can't still their mind long enough to understand how the counterintuitive nature of the universe works.
Nothing has changed since the sixth century BC when Lao Tzu said "running a government should be like frying little fishes," as simple and minimalist as possible.
The modern Democrat party is made up of people with the same dysfunctional brain as the people that created communism and socialism. They are just as capable and likely to commit the same atrocities committed by other collectivist governments and should be treated no differently than the horrible people that pushed collectivist totalitarianism an used it to subjugate people.
This was a power hitter. As always, very inspiring✊🏴🚩✊

I used to listen to Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro when I was 14-15 but now I find capitalism extremely cringe. It’s sad to see ppl my age who haven’t grown out of that phase.
But now you are watching extremely cringe inducing left leaning content.
