  • In mid-October of 2015, the Everett Railroad, in Hollidaysburg, PA, returned 2-6-0 #11 to active service after a long restoration. On this particular day, this "mighty Mogul" was pulling three-car Pumpkin Patch Trains, from the new station in Hollidaysburg to Brookes Mills and return, with a stopover at a trackside "pumpkin patch", where kids could feel free to pick their own pumpkins before the train returned to the station.
    The engine performed magnificently in what was her second day of revenue passenger service - and we catch the train in quite a few of the scenic locations along the route. Enjoy this look at Everett Railroad #11: Return to Steam!

    What a lovely engine! Ideal for hauling those shorter trains. Great idea getting the kids to pick their own pumpkins.
    Very nicely filmed thank you.

    Love the shot in the begging where the steam morphs into the title background!

    Wow, this came out of nowhere for me. I'll have to check out the railroad next year (since all their future rides are sold out at least steam engine wise).

      +DXP Yeah, I plan to ride at some point soon as well (just not this year, clearly).

    How long is this train ride?

    • @Bigjimvideo
      @Bigjimvideo  8 років тому +2

      +imagreatbigman The ride itself round trip, if it were to not stop, would be about an hour, I believe. But the train stopped at the pumpkin patch each time, so it was more like an hour and a half.

    So if I’m correct but as of 2019 is Everett railroad 11 and Canadian national 89 the only operational 2-6-0s in America?

      Standard gauge, yes. Standard and narrow gauge, no. For more, visit: www.steamlocomotive.com/locobase.php?country=USA&wheel=2-6-0

    Interesting valve gear. Looks like Baker.

      #11 uses Walschaert valve gear.

      What is the difference between the two, anyway? From what I've seen they're basically the same, with the expansion link design being the only difference

      @amtrakinoscale9811 6 років тому +2

      Walschaerts uses sliding joints, Baker uses pin joints.

      @Bigjimvideo  8 років тому +3

      +Nicholas Medovich Not really. They just got #11 done, it may be a while before #38 goes in for work (but I could be wrong, you'd have to ask them).

      You won't see 38 for a few years yet. I used to help out during the beginning half of 11's operations last year. Boss man wants some passenger cars to be rebuilt before 38 which is a need for the railroad

    Can we and the Blair County Historical Society use some of this footage in a promotional video we are making for our event on the Everett Railroad next weekend? We will credit. Thanks! More info here: www.blairhistory.org/events.html.

      +The Furious Fourth - WWII Living History Group Yes, that's fine! As long as I can get some sort of credit for the video footage, a "thanks to" or something like that, then I have no problem with that. :)

      The Furious Fourth - WWII Living History Group Why does this locomotive look more like a 4-6-0 than a 2-6-0?

      @@garyfaliabalanos1506 Good distance between the cylinders and the first set of drivers makes it seem like there should be another pair of pilot wheels...
