BAGofTALENT Keith is right. In most cases and jurisdictions there is a time where visual evidence such as this "expires" in a sense of it cannot be used. There's ways to still use it but it would cost too much time and money for the law enforcement so they usually don't follow through with the charges
Its actually the same thing with graffiti and stuff here.
People film it all the time. A video is more or less hearsay evidence. Which never holds up in court.
You actually have to get caught doing it to get in trouble. Its a grey area.

Even if this is totally staged (and it probably is) I think it's good clean fun - and I learn something every episode I watch. The theme to me is DIY and these guys are geniuses at this. That's just no in dispute. And I have endless admiration for that enterprising spirit. 'Go Moonshiners!'
They do have some fairly ingenious ways, but it’s extremely inefficient as opposed to other DIY ways, they’re losing a ton of efficiency in the electricity set up, as well as the yield of ethanol is generally going to be 10% less because of the loss from dilute gasses
I’m not shaming nor patronizing, I’m just giving another perspective on what they’re doing, of course there is a million and one nuances you can add to distilling, but there are a few key nuances that they might have overlooked or not known about, so I wanted to add to the notion that there can be a lot learned from this
Even chemistry, electrodynamics and thermodynamics is subtly taught in these episodes which I think especially in this entertainment format is really good. I’m personally not a huge fan of how our education system is orchestrated
Even a dumb ol' hillbilly ain't letting some camera men follow them around to their stills. This is 100% written and staged, but it's definitely well written.
@@t3hPoundcake Yea its staged but all these guys definitely started in the woods as outlaws. Earned enough and saw the opportunity to go legal and make more money on top of less risk. But for the show along with writers they go back to their routes for small batches to show how they do it the old fashion way.

What a great idea to put hay which is known to generate enough heat to catch on fire in a box with hundreds of gallons of pure alcohol.
Where's the pure alcohol? They put it in a box with barrels of mash. Mash becomes wine.
Those are fermenters, they go in composed of water and sugar and finish off with about 20% ABV in water. You clearly lack simple knowledge on this, “Genius”. Not even close to pure alcohol.

Corn is the flavoring. Without the enzymes from some kind of malted grain (barley or corn) the starches in any grains added to the mash (usually corn and or rye) are not available for alcohol conversion. It's more difficult and time consuming to mess with malting grains and more expensive to buy malted brewer's barley than to just use sugar and add cornmeal to the mash for an authentic flavor.
It's illegal because it is worth more to the government than beer or wine, you have to pay higher tax on it.
