I think it's important to note the difference between temper tantrums and meltdowns from neruodivergent conditions such as ADHD and autism. Temper tantrums happen when children (and some entitled adults...) don't get their way. meltdowns happen when neurodivergent people cannot cope with a situation or do not understand what is going on. it is actually extremely harmful to neurodivergent people to call meltdowns "temper tantrums" or just "tantrums". temper tantrums are associated with being bratty and manipulative. people with these conditions are not "just trying to get their way". otherwise, great video. Art and sensory therapy definitely help with my autism and help so many others with a wide range of conditions. I personally don't believe in "birth trauma" but that's a differing opinion in psychiatry. just please in the future don't call neurodivergent people's meltdowns temper tantrums. there are already soooo many stereotypes, misunderstanding, mistreatment and hatred of neurodivergent people and those with intellectual disabilities. it doesn't do any good to portray our episodes as something that we are doing because we didn't get our way. Meltdowns are traumatic to experience themselves by the way. thank you! I hope you can help more people :)

Hi Livy Ann, thank you for highlighting the issue with your comment. If you are familiar with my writings, you would know that I fully agree with you. I often employ Dan Siegel's definition of an "upstairs" and a "downstairs" tantrum. The latter being what you describe, and what is caused by a neurological trigger in the brainstem over which we have no control.

@@corneliaelbrecht4822 I appreciate the reply and clarification! I am not familiar with your writings. I understand what you mean, but it is still harmful to not differentiate the two in the video. most people are not familiar with your writings (which I will now have to look into and read) so they will not know the true meaning when you say "temper tantrums". maybe you could update the description with how you explained it to me? I do respect you and your work and I hope you have a wonderful day

@@corneliaelbrecht4822 I am very grateful for this video of yours and also for this conversation @Livy Ann !!!
I have a son 6 Y with ADHD and PDA. My question is
      1. whether this therapy would help him when he experienced various misunderstandings-traumas with me in the past.. and
      2. whether I myself could help him in this way if I guided him, because this therapy is almost unavailable here.
I think that with my son it is a combination of one neurodiversity - i.e. ADHD and PDA, and also misunderstanding became trauma..
      Thank you!!

Are these sessions of free play with the material, or are you using prompts to get to this point?

Thank you for sharing this video! We have a pottery studio and teach English and art classes in the Paris, France area. I wanted to buy your book today. I saw it is unavailable. We have had an introduction to work with a psychologist nearby to do some art therapy with her. We’ve had some some special needs children take our classes from time to time, while living and working in the states. Will your book become available in the coming year?

Is the therapist talking with the child about his issues during the clay field time, or is everything happening on the unconscious level without conscious input? Especially during session eight where hes dealing with birth trauma, how do you know he's working through that turmoil?

Is the size shape of the box important?

Not unlike sandplay therapy in a wet tray, a Jungian process that has been around for 75 years.
