yup, grinded trails probably had over 2k hours in that game. I left because of the repetiveness, lack of end game content, and devs that wouldn't listen to the community nerfing the most fun part of the game. Game will be dead in a year so can't recommend it to anyone any more sadly.
I don't think it was old dauntless. I think it was you being a new player and having actual things to do. The closer we get to endgame we start to realize there's nothing for us. The shame is endgame comes real fast
it actually hurts to see a game that had so much potential just burn to the ground because the developers really didn't understand what the players wanted and that in the end the players are the one that play the game, they outnumber the devs 1000:1 and they dont understand that a game like that isnt meant to be strict on how u play it. Dough deserved better in general too.
I think they understand what the players want, but their bosses are probably pushing monetization. I get that they need to make money, but I think the higher ups are trying to do a cash grab before it all comes crashing down.
@@bluemyst42 wouldn’t it be better for them to look at doughs vids and tweak some numbers and look the games 2x better more players come in and soon they make 10x the profit they would’ve made
@@jinxhex9379 I'mma be real Dough is right but in the wrong direction. There's less of a demand for crazy damage stuff, and straight up more demand for pve/hunting genre content. People want single target hunts, people want more behemoths, new weapons, actual guild content, a dedicated story, etc.
This game had so much potential; A game with troves upon troves of content, different micro-communities for the different modes and so much possible playtime and content to burn through that just kept growing. Sadly, all we got were empty promises, changes we never asked for and an abandoned carcass of a game from devs who don't know what they're doing with what they have
Haven't played Dauntless for a few months, and I am still reluctant to go back bc of how much of a pain they have made it. And I specifically am refering ti how they changed the way weapons work / how one crafts and levels them up.
I returned to dauntless a few days ago after a year long break. Cannot recommend it less. Game feels like a chore and isn't interesting or satisfying anymore.
@@Solzen_ It used to be so simple and so fun. Go hunt Behemoths, target special parts, claim the kill, upgrade your shit. You can now repeat this process with way cooler and newer Behemoths. It was a fantastic game cycle.
@@TheStraightestWhitest I agree on this I played and stop 3/5yrs ago(can't remember but I remember it was before covid time) and I just returned last 3 weeks
Yeah, it was nice before as you could just build a weapon and essentially be good with simple power upgrades. Like still it was extremely grindy on the armor and weapon perk type upgrades, atleast didn't have to ever get multiple sets of the parts.
exactly, your best content is the content where you do something absolutely insane then show us how you did it, from the build to the setup to whether or not teammates are required to pull it off. There's nothing like that one shot spectacular followed by a guide as to how it's done.
Exactly, its like the devs watch his videos for ideas of what fun things to nerf. Oh you turned a small thing into something big by combining with others in a build, NERF. Cant let people be silly in this super cereal game.
I wholeheartedly agree, I didn’t experience any of the high damage whacky stuff until I really finished grinding everything for my build which took a long while considering the reforge system. I don’t think the devs get that I LIKE to mow through the behemoths that I once found really difficult! Solo escalation just mowing through the behemoth with my gear I grinded for a long time for is actually fun, it’s what kept me playing. When more and more of my builds kept getting changed due to cell reworks or cell rebalancing or weapon rebalancing or some of the other shit they’ve done to “balance” a game that doesn’t need balance, I lost more and more interest until eventually I quit. I quit about the time they introduced new omnicells and reworked cells like wild frenzy, I had the most fun styling on the behemoths and they keep changing the way that works or taking it away, it’s very frustrating and it’s why I don’t play dauntless anymore.
I 100% agree, the reason I stopped playing was because they changed icebourn or whatever it's called and the final straw was when they changed the sword and nerfed the spin attack
Your oneshot build video is the only reason I played dauntless so much back in the day and am still playing from time to time. To this day, it‘s my most used build and whenever I feel like playing dauntless I usually jump into shock esca trying to get VI and have a good time. Ofc, the build has changed a bit over the years and I made a similar build for every axe element (they still fill almost all my loadout slots lol). Although they nerfed virulent impact, thrill of the hunt etc., it‘s still the one thing that I enjoy most when playing dauntless. When the stars finally align and I get to strike a huge crit (sometimes oneshot but that‘s very tough with 4 people in public hunts), the hunt chat usually goes crazy and my mates ask like wtf I just did. Most players these days don‘t even know these whacky, fun builds anymore because the devs nerfed everything that‘s fun. Anyways, thanks for these fun builds you shared, if it wasn‘t for you, I probably would‘ve quit dauntless a long time ago
So you’re clueless if you still enjoy the game? I’ve played since the beginning on and off and I don’t really feel your sentiment. I still think it’s fun. Yeah some of the systems are abit frustrating but… It’s fun?
Remove the attack speed cap. Restore chainblades. Restore cells like conduit, assassins frenzy, wild frenzy, rage, iceborne, etc. The game used to be sooo fun and they destroyed it with Slayers Path and reforging. They did a disasterous job with an insane game.
I played Dauntless for about two and a half years straight, from the console launch through to the chainblades rework. The game became something I used to love playing with friends to something I couldn't recommend to anyone. Having to reforge and relevel equipment meant sometimes one or more of us were locked out of the weapon we actually wanted to use at any given time. If somebody who played more casually had recently reset their main weapon and they wanted to play some new content, they were out of luck and instead we would have to go back to the baby islands and see if we could help them to grind back up to a decent level. That's not fun and engaging, that's a barrier to entry. The nerf to escalation perks was awful. To me, it would have been like if Hades had come out, and the devs would see everyone really liked to use the upgrade to dashes that let you reflect projectiles and they decided to put a cooldown on it to 'balance' the game. Sure, maintaining a certain level of challenge is important to increase playtime and engagement, but take things too far and apathy sets in. Apathy definitely set in when the chainblades rework happened. There was something it 100% felt like the devs did in a bubble, ignoring input from the people playing theirgame more than they do. I get that not all of us have opinions necessarily worth listening to, but the fact I also see so many people were pushed out for good once that update happened shows me there was merit in this case to staying their hand and exploring more options. Chainblades were a safe weapon that couldn't put out all that much damage, and I get how that can be tricky in a PvE game where often killing quickly is a factor, but to completely try and fail to make it a more aggressive weapon with less mobility capabilities was a mistake. They took a weapon type people liked and just removed it. Speaking of weapon types... Aether Strikers were added shortly after I started, and even with them being so fresh there were talks of the eighth weapon. I'm sure those of us around back then remember the multiple times they 'accidentally' left a bow icon in certain menu concepts. Well, out of curiosity I looked up just now the weapons in Dauntless, and they never added another type. Nearly four years, no new weapons. Nobody was expecting a weapon type to come out every few months or anything, but no weapons ever? Speaking of things they never added... Mini pets, guilds, skyfishing... Anything that wasn't just a behemoth. I also looked up behemoths just now and it seemed they stopped adding those not long after I stopped playing too. The only new thing that seemed to be added en masse was cosmetics, and after a while that became fatiguing. When you have a skin you like for every weapon, and a look to compliment each of those skins, you might be forgiven for not caring too much about every new cosmetic that releases. But when those cosmetics are also the only thing to actually work towards in the game, and are also locked behind grinds that take literal tend of hours, that was kind of where I ended up drawing the line. The Halloween 2021 'event' to grind for the scythe skin for axes sucked, and was blatantly meant to be skipped by paying real money. Most, if not all of those 'farms' were balanced to make actually doing them a chore, and there was no sense of accomplishment to the special bounties or whatever they were called. Having to look up online how many levels there were of each because the game didn't just lay out everything you needed to do so easily, and seeing some of those later levels made me not bother, and most of that stuff went untouched in my quests. This is an entire essay, it seems. Sorry to anyone who tries to read any of this. I uninstalled Dauntless nearly two years ago, and just now had that itch to maybe go back in, but from what I'm seeing and reading the game didn't change and start making good on its promise, it just sort of ended around when I quit. Wayfinder early access comes out soon and I think I'll drop a few bucks to buy one of the cheap founders packs because it looks like an interesting game. With Digital Extremes helping out with publishing, I hope they can support the devs and offer them advice they learned from running Warframe, a game I very much still enjoy 5 years after I started. I hope everyone else out there who allowed Dauntless to take up a chunk of their life found an activity to fill the gap that they enjoy,
As soon as the devs see something being used for something other than what they imagined (i.e. fun) they want it removed. Some of the best games make the silly things part of the game. If its not PvP, and its not exploiting something, then let the fun happen.
I left dauntless when they lost the root of game. - invisible boss - flying boss - peekaboo boss - buring boss - ...and other 1000 crazy living test ... whatever impossible to hit. You wont let me play ? I dont play ... just dat...sayonara
Honestly makes so much sense. Been debating on deleting it as of late. Been a loyal player since launch, but it’s been pretty bare as of late. Even the lobbies I’ve been in, at the main hub/town, has been pretty empty. If this game continues at this rate, it won’t survive by the end of this year. I have some memories and stories of my time on Dauntless, good and bad.
I loved it when you would select a specific monster to hunt with 3 other random people or friends and you would have to find the monster and chase it down while killing it Also personally loved having to upgrade a specific weapon rather than the levels
@@BeautyBeastRC instead it's now you go to an island filled with a bunch of monsters that can't really run away and have markers to show you exactly where they are. You go from beast to beast, behemoth to behemot, killing each one until you complete the quest and or get the gear you want All in one trip
I’ve been watching you and playing dauntless like about 3 or 4 years ago. I loved that time man, when shock excalation just released I was new and everything was fun. I remember the umbral escalation release. It was so freaking great and fun, but the last time I had fun was umbral or chronovore.
This game tried hard when Capcom flopped on their survey for Cross play/Cross Save not being available where I was like “alright, I’ll give this game a chance.” But it felt like it was missing something when I defeated all the current new stuff, got burnt out& dropped it a year ago.
@@QuietGuy101 when the game was ok they added the reforge with that tree system and continue doing change but people dislike it more than like it . We just hope for the game to be great 👍
I think an issue I have with dauntless, as someone who left during the reforged updated, or whatever prestige weapons were called, was that raw damage was always the best thing you could do on any weapon in every mode. Esca brought fun to it cuz a lot of the cooler signature amps encouraged not just stacking raw dmg for a 5 minute endgame boss kill to get a handful of crystals. And as a current MH player, chasing damage is fun because the builds you use arent the standard builds you'd typically take into a hunt. TDS "1shotting everything in the game" is awesome cuz of the skill and knowledge that goes into, or a speedrun where bosses are beaten solo in a few minutes showing off how valuable learning position and the monsters behavior is. But in dauntless, esca was the only way to really see that. Esca was fun cuz you could ramp up the numbers but had to use stats like stagger that most people didnt build for, since a KO build was easiest to pull off with a raw dmg build. In the goal of simplifying the game to make it more open, they took away all the challenge of it. I recall in the beta when a 4player Shrowd fight would go 1 on Shrowd, 1 on Clone, 2 on Orb. But when I left, you could 1 shot the clone with a drask lantern. With no challenge to the fights in endgame, the main fun was the spectacle, which was only possible in Esca. And they kept taking that away.
Watching you make these one shot builds and reaching insane damage is what made me want to play dauntless in the first place, it was fun to figure out how much damage can I actually do if I do this this and that. Now it's just boring and it hurts to see where it ended up now
5:04 WE USED TO BE ABLE TO MULTI-LANDBREAKER IN THE AIR???? bro removing this (and the ability to jump in place while emoting) are the real reasons the game died tbh
I still come back to Dauntless because it is a mindless game. It doesn't require me to put alot of thinking toward just killing monsters and I like that. I do agree that old school Dauntless was much more fun and required more thinking about gear sets, weapons, team setup, and weapon upgrades. Escalation is kinda just meh now and I just wanna get through the run to get the lvl up or side quest I'm doing.
reminds me of when Gearbox changed how often legendaries dropped in Borderlands 3. I get they're supposed to be "rare" or whatever, but I know I felt good whenever a bunch of legendaries dropped. Hell, the last dlc for BL3 actually added a relic that kinda returned that drop rate, thus making that change pointless. I understand that there are people out there that enjoy a challenge, but at the end of the day what is wrong with going nuts.
i played dauntless at around release and then i hadnt played until recently and it seems like even with me getting better at killing behemoths my armor and all the weapons i need for builds are so hard to grind for cuz im not having fun grinding. at first it was cool becasue eveything was new and ive only been back on for a week. seems like the endgame is so hard to reach
i played dauntless to what i thought was my extent until i got my friends into it. playing now with them is fun but it’s a shame they’ll never get to experience it at its peak
As a previous Axe main, I lived for the moments of insane damage or staggers. However overtime the game just... stopped being as fun. I used to attribute it to a lack of having anything to do. But at this point I can't even be bothered to max out radiant esca (I already had the golden armor transmog from when it was given out before Yknow before they gave it to everyone 🥲). I have so many things I can do but none of it feels rewarding to do. Grinding merit coins to get hold an extra potion that I don't use isn't exactly exciting. And beyond that the crazy damage isn't the same. Behemoths got stronger but we got weaker. I want to get on and demolish some crazy giant monster through my own hard work and skill but instead I have to do all the hard work just to chip down a behemoth (even with axe!). I don't understand why they're so set on making the game take time and skill instead of being enjoyable...
I stopped watching your videos towards the end of your dauntless journey because of the “negativity”. But I think I was just disappointed that you were right. I have played since the aetherpunk pass and feel betrayed by the devs. They have had so many opportunities to make the game better and have shit on the players that have been around long enough to unlock everything. Especially when they stopped making passes that have new cosmetics. What do we have too work for? It’s like they hate $ it’s a free to play game that is the lifeblood. Which by the way they did to focus on content…. Well where is it?
Damn, I'm both relieved that I saved my own energy and time jumping ship when I did, and also super disappointed knowing it could have been way better, as a ftp monster hunter style game that all of my friends could have been part of no matter what platform they're on
My favourite part as a new player to dauntless was when I first hit play and easyanticheat gave me an error saying it was unable to locate the games exe, so I uninstalled and redownloaded and got the same error, tried everything that was suggested through forums to fix the issue for 4 hours, was never able to, and just uninstalled the game and never looked back.
Oh dang, that beginning really gave me nostalgia! But to the critique, I do thing that some kind of balance is necessary yeah. They want the game to be challenging for players, not just a powertrip. But instead of trying to balance future content to be harder, they started spending time on balancing what was already there, creating less new content. A shame really that the game is dying. The fights started getting really good, and it has some of the best feeling weapon gameplay alongside Monster hunter, every weapon hit feels like it has actual impact, which not many games actually even try to do it seems. But what can we do when the devs does not seem to want to actually listen, other than silently watch them drag their own game into its doom.
if it's any consolation, tempest hammer is rocking the entire dauntless world by oneshotting behemoths in esca and has been riding trials leaderboards and they haven't nerfed it in a solid couple weeks
This is why I hate getting invested in live-service games. The Dauntless I got into years ago has just been bliped from existence, I'll never get to play it again, even if this current version is still online. And Lord knows how long that'll last. There are a couple of games I can only revisit in obscure UA-cam videos because the servers are gone. And the list of games in that group grows every year.
I love this game , and it hurts me how this game has turned out , before we got escalations , new behemoths , new weapons, reworks , cool skins we even got a whole ass community event , but after dauntless reforged it all became stale , sure we got cool things like new escalations and new behemoths , which is great , but in the last year we have only gotten either reskins of old behemoths , prexisting events with no changes and so little content gameplay wise I could count it with my hands. Even in this pitiful state I think this game could resurge , but the team behind it needs to make an effort , we need something new , a new game mode could be interesting , but it needs to be innovative like escalations were when they released , maybe focused on the looting aspect of the game , maybe we could have a coliseum game mode , where 4 slayers compete to slaughter their prey as fast as possible (this would be with the same loadout and against the best behemoth , to keep things balanced) to test out our real skills. Maybe we could get some more reworks , like the sword and repeaters one , maybe for the hammer , one of the og weapons which has been power crept pretty hard. Maybe we could even get the bow weapon we've been speculating for the last 2 years ! In my opinion new exotics could be nice , as they add flavour to a specific weapon class , other way to introduce content without making a full-blown new weapon class could be to make elemental exclusive weapons , like we could get a cannon weapon that specializes on staggering behemoths from a distance but in order to craft it you would need a bunch of fire behemoths parts , we could have a scythe type weapon based on injuring behemoths like the pike before chopping their parts off but you would need umbral behemoths parts to craft it. There is so much you can do with this game that it feels sad that the developers decided to take the easy route by leaving the game out to die so they could get a bunch of easy cash. Overall I think that with enough effort this game could be great again , but we need to get something new
I completely agree that they shouldnt nerf weapons or amps so much, its a PVE game who cares if 1 build is broken as hell. I feel they just need to power creep it. While yes it gets boring if the meta build is just Iceborne, but just put a build with more damage, but has more risk. And on another note i got back trying Dauntless again cause i saw you and Revy played. Gone into like 10 shock escalation to have like 2 drops of epic shard what bullshit
Probably not gonna see this, but if escas had roles like tank, support, dmg, you could focus those amps to players. Want all damage amps? Okay! Wanna be able to tank all damage? There ya go
I used to grind 10 hours per day, taking 2-3 hours sleep. Just to study behemoth attack pattern, grind till I get 1st place in trials as sword. Then when I got there I realized this isn’t fun anymore. So I stopped trying and quít the game entirely. But now wanting to get back with all these changes… yea nah.
i finished all content and grinded out all upgrades when the game first came out. i just enjoyed learning the fights and then dominating every behemoth. they should have just added more weapons and bnehemoth. for me they could even get rid of the city, just make a lobby menu and let me smash behemoth. plug and play
To me, Dauntless died when the Hunting Grounds came, and the changes to crafting weapons and armor. I was there year one, and I enjoyed Dauntless, killed every Behemoth solo, and grinded for the armor I wanted. Later in 2022, I got a new account to play as a newbie, and the changes I came back to after 2 years of a hiatus... it was awful. Hunting Grounds were a good idea, but not getting the certainty that you're gonna fight the Behemoth you want, coupled with the absurd grind they added from the crafting changes, made the game extremely slow and grindy. I don't wanna hunt 60+ Shrowds for the armor set, and even more just for one of the weapons. It wasn't like that at launch, and now it's horrible. A friend quit fighting Shrowd after getting its armor cause he lost the enjoyment of fighting the creature from how many times he HAD to fight it just to get some armor. They learned from Monster Hunter before, and threw it all away later down the line
I miss having ridiculous amounts of shield for no other reason than "I have as much health as the behemoths now :)" and now none of my favorite builds work because the shields are capped so I only get about 1k shields on average instead of the 3k shield buffer I had to face-tank the enemy. I don't care if I didn't do much damage, I just liked not dying.
I started playing in 2018 with all my mates and it was one of the most fun games ever. And over the years they all dropped the game and I’m the only one who kept playing. I still love this game to death it’s in my top ten but all these bad decisions and lack of content just makes me sad so much of the player base and big UA-camrs have left aswell. A part of me hopes that this “big update”, when it finally drops will right all the wrongs and breath new life into the game but maybe that’s just wishful thinking. All and all it’s still a fenominal game with really cool things and great ideas, it’s just depressing how things have turned out
As soon as I read the title, I instantly clicked. Dauntless has a lot of potential and I played this when it came out on Epic Games and it was AWESOME. That being said, the game is lacking in the update department. It absolutely needs developer 'love' to thrive as it once did.
I still get sad thinking about the potential this game had, If they could just LISTEN to us and not screw us over for the sake of "balancing" this game would still be pretty much alive and i would definitely still be playing it
When i started playing this game and watch your guides, even if the game was still at its early state, it feels a lot more polished than the current updated version.
I always wanted new weapons in the game, i dont have fun anymore with any weapons more than new behemoths (what they already dont make often) they should create more weapons
Aether heart system is interesting in concept, but fundamentally flawed. It now takes days of grinding to get a build that is somewhat acceptable. And even then, you still might not have enough Aether hearts to experimebt with builds. They take far too long to get and need far too much to craft.
I reinstalled dauntless for the first time in like 2 years because I wanted to have a bit of fun in a game I used to love, but within 2 hours of playing it I uninstalled it again. It simply was no longer fun to play.
I used to run The Cyclone build, made it able to last nearly a min and a half, quit the game for a bit, came back this year and saw it was gone, IMMEDIATLY uninstalled it, That was hilarious when I spun, but now? nah not worth playing
99% of everyone I was playing with stopped playing after the godhand nerf. OG dauntless was my happy place… there was so much good content. You, zanny, trails, +, was a good time I still couldn’t bring myself to delete, but now it’s definitely time
old dauntless was so fun it broke me when they changed chain blades and then on top of it they nerfed almost every way possible to play the weapon in a fun way revert the game back and it would be fun again
Man, this shit is EXTRA hilarious now... defiant stone has 80% drop rate in frost escs with the right Amp combos and you can EASILY one-shot urska consistently(80% per player btw, aka 4 man team is like .16% chance it DOESNT show up) with it and frostwulf ue and a single buggy interaction with conservation. Uber lame even if the first time was dope asf, u get no drops for one shots so, see it once, move on.
As someone who hasn't played since the introduction of repeaters. Would I find enjoyment in coming back? I guess I'd be doing expeditions for awhile to gear back up

when i could not afford mhw. this thing filled it for me. tbh it was the only thing that stood against mh at the time. It also helped it had less clunk than 2nd and 3rd gen mh. it could have carved a niche but it lost all relevance.
i came back after some massive update some time back and while that progression thing had some stuff unlocked it gave me none of the points so I couldn't really do anything and I just couldn't play the game
As a player since beta i did enjoy the game , after coming back for more than 2 years of not playing it was still fun but not as fun as before since as you said damaged got nerf and escalation grinding became much harder its a good grindy game next to monster hunter (been playing it since psp) but i agree they should focus on whats fun damage and all as a casual you want a build that fits the puzzle if you enjoy it like a full crit warpike build with parasitic not limitation but alas the game is dying which is pretty sad lots of potential and hopefully they will LISTEN to feedbacks the community thrives to make games alive and well If you're a dev reading this think of the players not ruining the fun for them if you make the game fun (Like fortnite, apex legends, monster hunter etc.) The game will thrive and live you can sell cosmetics all you want you will make money just make the game FUN.
8:35 Warframe is all you need to look at when it comes to balance in PvE games. You are a literal killing machine commiting mass genocide across the universe, with proper builds and weapons you're like a Demi-God and unkillable. Of course, Dauntless and Warframe take opposite approaches to power scaling, this is the point of Warframe while in Dauntless you're supposed to be a bit weaker so the monsters feel impactful to kill and whatnot. But not having any feeling of power just sucks. At least make it feel good.
They nerfed my build with the infinite use syringes and making it where self reviving lowers the rage percent like when someone else revives you. I was a medic. I love playing medics in games. Now people chastize me for a build that helped alot when the game launched just because i could be getting damage done faster if i didnt go for that revive that landed at my feet and only takes 2 seconds.
I sent feed back saying to listen to OhDough Because he his correct and to implement his thoughts, ideas and opinions into the game. Hopefully they do it because it would help dauntless massively.
I stopped playing a while ago. I never played consistently, was always more of a when hunting pass came out i'd maybe join with a few freinds and play for a month. But for the last few times everytime I joined, it felt like they had changed something to make me weaker or removed fun elements I enjoyed. And that was everytime. Taking away fun I know I used to have makes me dislike the game more than I should. It's quite sad because I genuinely enjoyed this game so much.
IMO. It feels like they were sick of being called a monster hunter clone, so they took the entire "hunting" feel and ditched it, turning hunting grounds into a lazy "open world" with multiple spawns that's, as you said best for just being chill now, not exciting or fun in any way. Sure original hunting grounds being in a loading screen so often was repetitive, but instead of working to perfect that style of play they abandoned it. Trials are fun if you wanna challenge yourself but after beating it once or twice there isn't much incentive to keep playing them until it resets, and a lot of the trials seems to be more irritating than anything. And finally we have escalations, what was and could have been the most fun game mode but it's just a boring climb to fight the final boss which are the only battles in the game that are somewhat enjoyable. It's not that I don't like the concept of fighting through rooms to get to the final boss, but the way it's executed is just so poor that I can't be bothered. Don't get me started on the leveling and prestiege system, I absolutely loved hunting down monsters, upgrading my armor and weapons, having intense battles with my boys risking losing the hunt so we can break that Shrowds damned ankle for a part. Removing that and adding in a boring tech tree that takes hundreds of hours to level up, where most of the skills and things you unlock barely make a noticeable difference or are unintriguing. And oh my god the multiple revives, and all the systems they put in place to babyfy the game, trials is the only challenging part of the game anymore unless you put handicaps on yourself, now, I'm someone who has played since year one and is a masochist for difficulty, so maybe that's why I don't see the appeal and consider the game to be too boring and easy for 90% of the content. I have to give some credit, through the years a lot of the weapon moveset updates and added weapon classes were tight, some of the best moment was trying out that new content when it released and freaking out when we did crazy combos or damage for the first time with the homies. But the time in between any good content release has always been way too long to ever keep me playing the game consistently. Conclusion, I've played this game since launch on pc, I had some great times playing this back in highschool with my homies but it's a sad shell of what it used to be. I supported this game from the very start and argued in it's name as my friends shit on it and left the scene years ago, but sadly I was just coping and they were right, game isn't worth playing and if it doesn't make any serious changes I will be shocked if it isn't completely dead by 2025.
Apparently it seems the speed-runners and content creators killed Dauntless inadvertently. It was fun to push the boundaries of the game and to push things to an extreme, but the devs didn't like it. They wanted to force the game into being "Balanced" and removed the fun from the game because we were making fun ways to play the game, yet wont change the bugs that actively harm player experience like Tragic Echo not procing correctly and insta downing after it should have revived. That didn't get addressed for years. I know I've hung around players who were skeptical of the game and were very very vocal about it such as Aodan, but they were calling it as they saw it and hit the nail on the head. The way PL wanted us to experience the game changed when it started gaining popularity and us who got invested to use its systems to have fun and make interesting content inadvertently caused PL to change it. Thanks for the insight Dough.
I can agree with some of your points, however I don't think Dauntless is going to push into 'Massive spectacle' ideas. It seems like they've already decided on focusing more on balance and genuine challenge. If you want Spectacle gameplay with little RnG to worry about then you should dive into Borderlands 2 and 3 as the damage and types of gun fire across millions of different weapons gets absolutely wacky. And I think what they meant by 'Healthy and Balanced' is that they don't want players sitting on a clearly broken build, have much easier ways to get into that build (by using your RnG elimination idea) and whatever new content they decide to release, you can just dive in and smash it within seconds. It would be fun for the first few weeks but it'll get tiresome real fast and will kill the game.
I couldnt play this game again. It's just blegh. It was so bad that I went back and played monster hunter world/iceborn and I finished all of it years ago. Only thing im missing is a proper evasion tank type talisman for my build. At this point with my career and everything i dont have time for 30 minute games anymore. life moves on... This game just made me sadge.
I miss this game haven't played in a couple years now, so much changed when i tried to go back and i was just confused. Seeing this though reminds me how it's less of balancing a pve game and making it more cookie cutter, nothing too crazy now.
Really sucks because they have so much potential but they're a dev team who thinks they always have the right answer and the community never does. They JUST allowed us to bank a full reforge Just now, like a year and half after the system came out and everyone immediately said it should be a full bank stored. They don't understand their own game and even worse they don't understand and flat out ignore their own community, it really hurts to see.
reforging should of never reset your power in the first place. it should of been either entirely a cosmetic thing or as close to cosmetic as possible VS being one of the main factors in your damage.
@@OhDough Yeah definitely, it really just seems like reforging was a last ditch effort to force more playtime so the game doesn't die "oh you wanna do that thing? Well you should use this weapon oh it's not upgraded? Well time to reset inorder to minimally upgrade it while resetting all of your main power!"
Reforged made me lose hope in the game. At first, during the open beta, it was magical, cool to play and exciting. All of the things which were unexpanded, but had cool potential - had remained so. The switch to faster, less involved and more action-y hunts is what killed the game for me. The moment a hunt had become a chore, rather than the objective, is where the game took a nosedive. EDIT: This isn't even mentioning the insane power creep which contributes to this. Exotics as well, remember those? Those were fun and cool, and they just got dropped.
Old dauntless was genuinley one of the best gaming experiences i had, and looking at the game now is just a shell of what it once was.
yup, grinded trails probably had over 2k hours in that game. I left because of the repetiveness, lack of end game content, and devs that wouldn't listen to the community nerfing the most fun part of the game. Game will be dead in a year so can't recommend it to anyone any more sadly.
It's like opening a box of chocolate only to discover that it's empty
I don't think it was old dauntless. I think it was you being a new player and having actual things to do. The closer we get to endgame we start to realize there's nothing for us. The shame is endgame comes real fast
Am I the only one who played it back then, didn't like it, played it nowadays and actually got addicted to it? Seems to be a rare opinion
@@merfozzsla Exactly what happened to me
it actually hurts to see a game that had so much potential just burn to the ground because the developers really didn't understand what the players wanted and that in the end the players are the one that play the game, they outnumber the devs 1000:1 and they dont understand that a game like that isnt meant to be strict on how u play it.
The exception to this statement in Ultrakill, Ultrakill would suck if Hakita gave us everything we wanted.
Stopped playing after the chain blade rework thinking of going back tho
Great video, I think the people who adamantly defend the direction the game has taken over the past few years are 100% clueless.
yup
I don't think the problem is with the direction, it's that there's nothing to do past a certain point.
sadly the devs are listening to those edgelords than people who actually plays
@@-CrySa- so the direction
So you’re clueless if you still enjoy the game? I’ve played since the beginning on and off and I don’t really feel your sentiment. I still think it’s fun. Yeah some of the systems are abit frustrating but… It’s fun?
i remember the old dauntless now seeing it like this breaks my heart it is a good game

I loved it when you would select a specific monster to hunt with 3 other random people or friends and you would have to find the monster and chase it down while killing it
Also personally loved having to upgrade a specific weapon rather than the levels

@@fan_funxd7779 yeah.
As soon as the freakin moron "nerf fun" dev comes to power game is dying.
That’s a gaming fact.
I found TheOf 😮
I miss the old map… the old map was perfect, super nostalgic for that map :(
I used to love this game back before the Reforged update. Ever since then this game has been a downhill experience for me.
It feels a lot harder to do decent damage too, not only that but I can't even report bugs anymore. It sucks pretty hard.
The power drop off after Reforged update was crushing
reminds me of when Gearbox changed how often legendaries dropped in Borderlands 3.
I missed playing dauntless, throwing axe feel soo amazing when it cuts of tails, break armors, or even kill the behemoth
i played dauntless at around release and then i hadnt played until recently and it seems like even with me getting better at killing behemoths my armor and all the weapons i need for builds are so hard to grind for cuz im not having fun grinding. at first it was cool becasue eveything was new and ive only been back on for a week. seems like the endgame is so hard to reach
2:30 what is the name of this game it look fun
Old dauntless was amazing, sad to see how dead it is now
Playing Dauntless at first is so fun but overtime it just seems to grind away at your time but not in a fun way more of life draining way
I used to grind this game for hours on end back in 2019 but my god, what the hell happened
i played dauntless to what i thought was my extent until i got my friends into it. playing now with them is fun but it’s a shame they’ll never get to experience it at its peak
Such a great game, dauntless didn't die, it got murdered
Loading up to fight each hunt was pretty cool back in the days
This is why I hate getting invested in live-service games. The Dauntless I got into years ago has just been bliped from existence, I'll never get to play it again, even if this current version is still online. And Lord knows how long that'll last.
There are a couple of games I can only revisit in obscure UA-cam videos because the servers are gone. And the list of games in that group grows every year.
I played when it came out, came back and as an axe player, it was an abysmal experience
Overall I think that with enough effort this game could be great again , but we need to get something new
they live in a echochamber. the issue with games is investors have WAY WAY WAY too much say.
But now wanting to get back with all these changes… yea nah.
we need more moist dough
i finished all content and grinded out all upgrades when the game first came out. i just enjoyed learning the fights and then dominating every behemoth. they should have just added more weapons and bnehemoth. for me they could even get rid of the city, just make a lobby menu and let me smash behemoth. plug and play
went down hill when china got a hold of it.
Bro speaking the heart and I respect that
To me, Dauntless died when the Hunting Grounds came, and the changes to crafting weapons and armor.
I don't care if I didn't do much damage, I just liked not dying.
literally the Paladins of Monster Hunter
glad i got to play this game in its prime
I supported this game back when they had the supporter packages, loved it. Then it got absorbed by epic and i watched it slowly die

10k shields?! HAH! I have all firmed(wr holder for biggest hit[59mil]) had 1.7m shields...
Sorry to dump my anger here, thinking about that man irks me to the core so bad I get a damage boost against pangars I stg...
As someone who hasn't played since the introduction of repeaters. Would I find enjoyment in coming back? I guess I'd be doing expeditions for awhile to gear back up
depends, the game is still free so you can give it a shot
@@OhDough Ya I started before It was on epic store (Local developers) I just kinda wanna dick around while I'm on medical the next few weeks. But I also have MH:Rise which is free via game pass
@@mattdemer8154 stick to monster hunter rise. I went back and it's still just a shit show. Somehow managed to find more bugs immediately while replicating some old ones that have been there for years lol. Just enjoy monster hunter dude, don't waste your time
when i could not afford mhw. this thing filled it for me. tbh it was the only thing that stood against mh at the time.

Warframe is all you need to look at when it comes to balance in PvE games.
I played dauntless when it first came out and loved it. Super fun game play. I planned to come back but now I question if I ever will.
I fully believe the dev passed on your suggestions, there's so much that goes on behind the scenes that could cause it to be denied
I miss the old dauntless I used to have so much fun even playing with randoms 💔
How kind, but i don't need saving
i'm waiting for a new weapons like years... and nothing new
Apparently it seems the speed-runners and content creators killed Dauntless inadvertently.
I played dauntless for about a hour and went "....dafuq is this?" If i wanna hunt monsters, i have monster hunter
I dropped this game & went back to Monster Hunter because it's less of a grind.
I loved the 1st trial in dauntless I loved chasing leader boards
They JUST allowed us to bank a full reforge
Just now, like a year and half after the system came out and everyone immediately said it should be a full bank stored.
