Hibs, Hearts & Edinburgh's unknown football club - Edinburgh City FC
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 лис 2020
- OK, so Edinburgh City FC aren't unknown to the people who really pay attention to Scottish football.
However, they aren't household names like Hibernian FC and Heart-Of-Midlothian FC who are known the world over.
Edinburgh City Football Club are fairly new to the SPFL Pyramid and play in League 2!

You were in the right place for the commonwealth stadium behind the boards opposite McDonald's. Meadowbank thistle played there before becoming Livingston and moving out of the city. I saw Edinburgh play Livingston a few seasons back
A year ago we were visiting Edinburgh and were lucky enough to get a semi-private tour of Tynecastle Park, but Hearts weren't playing the week we were there - a local told us about Spartans but we didn't end up going to the game - very cool to see the stadium in this video - thanks!
Spartans less we forget
I actually have heard of Edinburgh City FC before, but this video definitely taught me a lot more about them! Keep up the great work my guy🤝
Nice, glad you've heard of them! I'd say you know more than most about Scottish footy over in the states!
Man absolutely love your vids .since you kept me entertained. When were aloud into grounds would like to invite to watch partick thistle play .my treat man
Love it mate content is unreal as always, so close to 11k aswell 🙌🏻
Legend! Cheers!
Another excellent video. Always enjoy visiting Edinburgh, must climb Arthur's seat again next time I'm there.
Definitely you should! It's a long old trek!
Loved the clydebank video being a Drumchapel bhoy, good content covering the famous 42
Cheers! Only got a few left!
Great vid mate !! I would be blowing out my arse if I walked up that hill lol
great vid and quality content as always!!
Cheers! 🎬
Surprised you never mentioned Meadowbank Thistle the club who originally played at Meadowbank Stadium hence the name as they were originally a works team called Ferranti Thistle then changed name when admitted to League hopefully you will mention when covering Livingston...
As for clubs who have changed names after going into administration let's not forget the MK of Scotland in the Clydebank debacle Airdrie United who were Airdrieonians until liquidated
4:17 - With Cove Rangers and Kelty Hearts also having come up from the lower eagues. I honestly feel like there are more to come, possibly Brora Rangers? I myself am a Stirling Albion fan and would love to see more teams enter League 2. Maybe with us being in League 1 because the new comers have done really well following their promotions! Some with a bit of money behind them, others not. You love to see it regardless!
Love how ur doing a vid on edin city 🔥 was the first team to get promoted from the lowland/highland leagues to the football league in Scotland
Thanks!!
Loving the videos mate, have I missed the one you've done for Cove Rangers?
Hello! No, you've not missed it, it's coming out this weekend! Cheers for watching!
The view from Arthur’s Seat is beautiful! I’ve been up it several times with my family🤩🤩
Class isnt it!
Your channel is growing bro. Soon you will forget about your first and most loyal subscribers.😁 congrats to 11k of them now. Take care
Thanks mate! I'll never forget the OGs!
You know from the right angle Arthur's seat looks like a lion 😉
From portobello area i assume?
@@scottwhitley3392 nope lol

loved the video the Spartans fc are my fav lowland league team.
Was that Murryfield in the back ground when you were up Arthur's seat?
I thought Edinburgh City played at the commonwealth stadium where Meadowbank used to play. You learn something new watching your videos.
Edinburgh City did & will return to
Meddowbank Stadium after renovation is completed that was sead in the video.
Meddowbank Stadium was an out dated Athletics Stadium basically.
Liking the vid since you walked so much!
Legend!
Love the intro! 👏👏
Thanks! 😃
great vid bro,remember tranmere rovers,
Yeah mate! Can't wait to visit them!
Good video👍🏻🏴
Cheers mate!
Edinburgh City is my second football team, my first is Hearts, I love the vid #notificationsquad
Nice one 🙌 thanks Ben!
HMFC #1
Heart of Midlothian are my favourite Scottish team no doubt about it you ask me why is because my love of the club started in Early 2000s when I found out about Scottish football and I love Tynecastle
Nice! I've done a few Hearts videos, one really recently!
Reason why I like Hearts over Celtic is because well they have a lovely fan base unique kits and I once met a now Hearts FC player that is Craig Gordon we signed him from Hearts FC he was our main keeper at Sunderland then he became injured a lot and his contract ran out he then signed for Celtic until coming home to Hearts FC
ECFC OK 😎
Great video mate 🙌🏻
Thank you!!
I once was on Edinburgh city's pitch a decade ago as my stepmum was doing a charity event for Disney there. Apparently the guy that played Spencer from balamory was there, I still remember walking past him and hearing his american accent 😄
I would say that the current Edinburgh City FC is a totally different club from the club that was formed in 1928. Will you be doing a video about the the rise and fall of Gretna?
Yes, I'll be getting to Gretna soon!
Meadowbank Stadium was an athletics stadium that held the Commonwealth games in 1970 and 1986 and was the home of Meadowbank Thistle who played in the lower leagues of Scottish football but were bought over and relocated to Livingston and renamed Livingston FC in 1995. The Meadowbank Stadium fell into disrepair afterwards and although it has continued to host local Edinburgh Rugby and some non league football teams like Edinburgh City it was demolished in early 2019 and construction of a replacement was started.
Edinburgh City were the first team to get into the SPFL through the (relatively) new pyramid system, but other non-league teams have come in before for various reasons. Notably Meadowbank Thistle in the 1970s (now Livingston) and Annan Athletic, who replaced their local rivals Gretna in the SPFL in 2008.
Ferranti Thistle had to change their name to Meadowbank Thistle to be admitted to the league.
@@donmacleod2701 - 100% correct mate. I remember Ferranti Thistle playing in the early rounds of the Scottish cup before they were admitted to the league as Meadowbank. They were a works team from a factory if I remember correctly. They used to play at Meadowbank stadium as well, back when it was still a top athletics stadium. Was originally built for the 1970 Commonwealth Games of course.

Some extremely good information in this particular video your content is improveing all the time.
Meddowbank Stadium is a stones though from Easter Road it's not far from The Morrisons from what I remember when I ued to go down to Mussleburgh on The Bus with my Ex's Dad you would know Meddowbank Stadium if you seen it as it has massive floodlight Pilones like the kind you would get at Brunton Park aswell.
Meddowbank Stadium had been needing renovations since the 90's it had become a dump of a Stadium it was built as an Athletics Stadium for The Commonwealth games in Edinburgh in the 70's.
Myb do Livingston F.C next ether that or do Ross County & The two Inverness Clubs.
Keep Safe Sam.
Excellent intro!
Legend, thanks!
No probs.
4:15 cove rangers also made it in to league 2 in 2018
I believe Edinburgh have 4 teams that could compete in the SPFL set up. 3 you have named but there is also Edinburgh University that currently play in Lowland league
Oh yeah true, will be interesting to see if they can get up
Meadowbank is unlikely to be rebuilt, Finally a stadium I’ve played at!
Haha nice mate!
1st to like 🤣🤣love this channel
Legend, thank you!!!
Plenty of travel left in those 6 grounds you have still to visit 👍
Haha I know. They couldn't be further apart really!
4:45 I locked my bike on one of those trees when I walked up Arthurs seat on the last day of july this year
Nice! I'm glad I got up before winter truly hits
Edinburgh City are unlikely to return to Meadowbank now. It's primarily an athletics facility and when the plans were drawn up, City were still a lowland league outfit and the standards required for league football were not really considered. So even when it's finished, it won't meet SPFL criteria on seating or turnstiles among other things.
We used to have a fourth, Meadowbank Thistle who played at Meadowbank Stadium, the same stadium that the Commenwealth games were held twice. Was a great stadium but currently being bulldozed th create flats and a new sports facility. Of course Meadowbank later became Livingston FC.
This is video is class
Thanks, much appreciated!
What happened to Meadowbank Thistle F.C or E.S. Clydebank??
Meadowbank changed to livingston
Did you know that livingston was a Edinburgh team but they moved to livingston that's why they are called livingston now
Ah right I didn't know! That'll come in handy for my upcoming Livingston vid!
Livingston were called meadowbank thistle I believe
@@FootyAdventures The origins of Livingston. They started off as Ferranti Thistle a works team who were formed in 1943 a Electronics defence company they became Meadowbank Thistle and played at the Stadium that was built for the 1970 Commonwealth games which they took the name of. The Building site you passed today at Meadowbank was that Stadium. Meadowbank just couldn't attract the gate as Hibs were too close so the Chairman/ owner looked for a move he originally wanted to go East towards Portobello where incidentally their manager was a Teacher at the School there Portobello High School which I myself attended while on that search Livingston Council came in with a offer to move there throwing in the Stadium so that is where they went in 1995.
@@paulwilson2651 nice thanks for that!
@@FootyAdventures Would be nice the video about Livingston FC to include some walk around and history of the town as well, as it has been built after 1962. In my understanding Livingston has got its first inhabitans from Glasgow and the football club from Edinburgh, an interesting combination.
Spartans badge is very cool
It's great!
How long till CFG or Redbull get their hands on them?
Edinburgh is a beautiful city
I’ve been the mascot for Edinburgh city
Nice!
@@FootyAdventures thank you
A remember going up Arthur’s seat
Could see Easter road
Good views!
Love how you say you can't find the Meadowbank stadium.... literally as you're walking right past the main stand 🤣🤣
While going to visit Inverness and Ross County, you should tick off Brora Rangers while you're at it too! Not a trip you will want to make twice haha
Yeah I definitely need to do a few highland grounds when I'm up there!
I bet Robbie Neilson doesn't want to make that trip twice
Cheers 🥃👍
Do you live in Scotland permanently now?
Yep :)
And you forget Meadowbank Thistle
until 1995.^^
You have also got Spartans
The original Edinburgh city in the 1930s played in the second division and were amateur.....Edinburgh had 5 teams in the league during the 1920s/30s with Leith athletic and st Bernards the other ones,st bernards reached the Scottish cup semi finals in 1938 losing to east fife the eventual winners, but didn't rejoin the league after WW2.
Seems rather straight forward to me its obviously not the same club.
Edinburgh City......a club doing well atm but it has to be the worst away day in the SPFL, would have preferred if they'd stayed at Meadowbank
Maybe they'll get back to that area soon?
@@FootyAdventures fingers crossed 🤞
We are going back this year 😀😀
loads of us have heard of them!,what about spartans?.
Hi there. Edinburgh City fan here, if you want to have a chat more about the club I'm certainly up for it. Like you I'm another Englishman living in Scotland and City became my club. Even wrote a book about it. Give me a follow on twitter please @ashwilsonauthor and I can also point you in the direction of the supporters club.
Great video. Thanks for helping to give us a bit of limelight because we mainly get ignored by everyone else 😂

Cmon the city ⚫️⚪️
Hearts should have a bigger stadium in my view. They are a sleeping giant. That is what I think.
Thanks-
You must have thighs like tree trunks mate...lol. That's a power of walking you've done. Hope you bag them all mate. ;) ...clubs I mean, not munro's...lol
What about spatans
do inverness Caledonian thistle fc
Coming soon!
Edinburgh university fc in lowland league to
Edinburgh South and Edinburgh United as well. Just need an Edinburgh Athletic and that's all the generic names covered.
‘Edinburgh XAnglia FC’?
Are you doing highland league teams? You could see the supposed worst team in Britain fort William who once had a game postponed because their pitch was covered in deer shit
11k 👏👏
🎉
Hearts🇱🇻
Edinburgh city
Hibs
In that order 🇱🇻😝
Edinburgh's big team 😉
I don't think Edinburgh City ever played at Meadowbank Park, was just Ferranti Thistle and then Meadowbank Thistle who were there (was then Meadowbank stadium) until the mid 1990s.
In terms of rangers every football governing body in Scotland and uefa and FIFA say we are still the same club
Ha Ha Rangers went bust reformed as Sevco then changed to "The Rangers" Hearts fans saved their club The so called "We Arra People mob let their die! Fact!
He mentioned administration and Rangers in the same breath. It was liquidation not administration, two completely different things. Glasgow Rangers were liquidated. A new team was formed called The Rangers. Glasgow Rangers & The Rangers are two different clubs. And before we you ask, I’m definitely not a Celtic fan, I’m just stating the obvious
Who are you trying to convince?
Sevco was the consortium every footballing governing body say we are still the same club
@@Ryandunbar1996 We all know that you aren't them's the facts you went bust and the supporters of the old Rangers watched them die at least the Hearts fans fought and saved their club!
it was the company that run Rangers who went into admistration and Rangers were taken over by new owners, this has happened to Celtic 3 times as recently as 1995, it is not the football club but the company who admin them who go bust, UEFA and all the relevant bodies will confirm this
