  • So, in my last video, I practiced drawing and painting mountains to become better at making fantasy maps. I got a couple of pieces of paper left, so I thought I could turn them into bookmarks, and here is the result! 😺
I like making multiple copies of artwork because it makes me more adventurous and less afraid of making mistakes. It’s a good way of practising different techniques and discovering which areas that you need to practice more and what you can do differently. It also makes me less precious about what I’m doing and I enjoy the art process more. 🖌️☕️🎨
I hope that you’ve enjoyed the video and that you have a wonderful day!
    Cheers/ Tove
P.S. Next weekend we’re going to meet up with the gang from @BandofBadgers and @dragonbornindustries, which is going to be great fun!
I probably won’t have time to make a new video until during the weekend after that, but I hope to see you soon again. (Feel free to subscribe to this channel if you like to get notified when I release a new video.)
P.P.S. In the video, I mention that the maps of Middle Earth in J.R.R Tolkien's books were made by his son, Christopher Tolkien. I just want to clarify that these maps are based on the original hand-drawn maps created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
P.P.P.S. Here is a step-by-step description of how you can make your own DIY fantasy bookmark:
    1. Cut out the paper into the size of your bookmark.
    2. Make a hole at the top for the bookmark cord with a hole puncher.
    3. Trim the bookmark, if needed, and use the scissors to round the edges.
    4. Use a pencil and draw the border of the bookmark.
    5. Make a loose pencil sketch of the Evenstar symbol.
    6. On the other side of the bookmark, make a border and add decorations.
    7. Write down your favourite Lord of the Rings quote. (For example: “I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone”.)
    8. Ink your pencil sketch.
    9. Apply watercolour in opaque layers, working from light to dark. Work wet on wet in each area, by first dampening the paper and then adding the paint.
    10. If you need to clean up mistakes, you can re-activate the paint by adding water and using a piece of tissue to soak up the paint.
    11. Add the finishing touches to the watercolour illustration.
    12. Cut six equal pieces of embroidery thread and loop them through the hole in the bookmark.
    13. Braid the tread and tie it with a knot. Trim the ends of the threads.
    14. If you want to seal the watercolour illustration you can use wax, transparent tape, or laminate it.
The art supplies that I’ve used for this video are Faber-Castell ink pens (sizes 0.5, 0.3, and 0.1) and a small set with Windsor and Newton watercolours. The paper is a 140 lb. cold-pressed A5 watercolour paper from The Langton, which is very nice, but makes the writing a little bit hard because of the texture.
