Thats what im happy to hear from a proper solo gamer❤ I adore Lacerda games, have them all, playing only solo, I like long set up - it is a part of an experience, the beginning of a great journey. I cant wait to get mine and dive into it! Thank you for this first impression😊
I appreciate that! I agree, I don't mind a bit more setup for a longer, heavier game. Moving the physical components around actually helps me remember the rules and get into the right mindset. I'm very curious, since you have almost certainly played more solo Lacerda than I have, which are your favorites? I've played so much multiplayer Lacerda, I still need to go back and play more solo, especially for his earlier games. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
I love it!!! You said what my biggest complaint with UA-cam reviewers is! I too, don’t care about their opinions after one play. I see too many garbage takes and opinions on games when It’s obvious they have one speed play on the game!
That is definitely a problem, especially for heavy games. It is a combination of gamers thinking they are smarter than they actually are and reviewers racing to produce as much low-quality content as possible to feed the insatiable hunger of UA-cam. One of the side effects of making instructional playthrough videos is you have nowhere to hide. If I tried to make a video after one play it would be a disaster! I have to play more so I can teach it. That is why I really appreciate reviews or impressions from content creators that also make playthrough videos, like Paul from Gaming Rules! I have a hard time trusting reviews from people putting out dozens of reviews each week. Thanks for watching!
Would love to see a Lacerda ranking (not necessarily from a solo only perspective). I am also a longtime fan of his designs, and enjoy seeing how they stack up for us super fans.
I plan to make that list, but I have a weird history where I've played the older games a lot multiplayer (including 2 player) and a few times solo but the last two games solo only. I want to replay a few of them before I commit to a list. Although I have a Top 50 Games of All Time video and the order they appeared was 1. Kanban EV, 2. Gallerist, 3. Lisboa, 4. Vinhos. I need to play more On Mars -- that is my least played Lacerda for several reasons and I plan to correct that injustice this year. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much. I'm happy you feel that way. I only do one of these first impressions videos when I feel like I have something to say that might add to the conversation, or if I feel strongly about something. Thank you so much for checking out the video!
Love the game. Really spectacular job. Art and production are off the charts, and all the player aids really help it move smoothly. Thanks so much for checking out my videos!
Nice video and very complete. Thank you for sharing your impressions. I'm about to get my first Lacerda game, and since I'll play it mainly solo, this video helped me reinforce my decision to buy Inventions. On the other hand, what is your opinion about playing On Mars solo? I played it once multiplayer and I really loved it, but I haven't read good opinions about On Mars solo mode.
I need to play On Mars solo again -- I've only played it once. I've played it several times multiplayer and really enjoyed it, but need to play more. That is my next task, so I can't really say for sure. You can check out my solo playthrough videos for Kanban EV and Weather Machine on the channel. I would also look at The Gallerist and Lisboa (I haven't made videos for those yet). They all play solo well, even though I prefer them multiplayer. You really can't go wrong with any of them as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for watching!
Totally agree on the first play thing. My first game of Weather Machine was a complete mess, rules wise and gameplay wise. And that's fine! With games like this it takes at least two plays to see the shape of it and appreciate what it has to offer, let alone be any good at it. I'm not done exploring Weather Machine yet, but it's hard to not get this game as well because it looks amazing.
Yeah, I have to have all the big box Lacerda games. I'm too much of a fan. A normal, well-adjusted gamer probably only needs one or two. I enjoy the subtle differences between them. This one feels very different from Weather Machine to me. Thanks so much for watching!
How much it takes to setup and tear down? I have noticed I play games with lots of setup and tear down less. I don't want to spend ~40 minutes to setup and tear down the game, to play a 90 minutes game.
For a heavy game the setup is on the easier and quicker side (nothing like Voidfall for example which is what you describe). The progress tiles are in those nice trays, so you can just plop those on the table. The insert keeps everything nicely organized. This is the easiest Lacerda game to setup, I believe. Thanks for watching!
I enjoyed your playthrough and thought this game had a lot of appeal for a heavy solo. I seem to have too many of those at the moment :-). So won't be rushing for this one. But excellent playthrough and review.
Yeah, for sure. I know the feeling. I try to keep my new purchases to designers and/or publishers that I know and love and want to support. But my goal for this year is to tackle those older games. Thanks for watching!
Would you recommend it (regarding reseller price - here in sweden it sells at around 200 Dollar) for solo only? I do have Weather Machine, bought it second hand and love it. My current go to game is Voidfall, but I would like to have some combo-game and here it is between Darwin‘s Journey (only a fourth of the price) and Inventions. So I think we have quite similar tastes, thats why I ask for your recommendation. :)
Hmm, my only hesitation is, at that high price, you could get multiple other solo games that would probably offer more replayability than Inventions alone. Inventions isn't one you are going to play dozens of times in a row like Voidfall. Darwin's Journey is excellent both multiplayer and solo, and while I probably like Inventions more, at a fourth of the price you can't go wrong there, especially if you already have Weather Machine for your Lacerda cravings. So Darwin's Journey would be my recommendation. But if money is no object, then I'd recommend both. Thanks for watching!
I would not be shocked if someone liked Inventions and didn't like Weather Machine. They are very different games. Hopefully the playthrough will help you decide. If you liked The Gallerist then I think you would like Inventions. They give me similar vibes. Thanks for watching!
I received the game almost 2 weeks ago and I watched your playthrough so I can dive in with more understanding of the game specially a Lacerda game. As you say, I’m bias too bc I love, love his game! And this one it’s so good even with only one play and how bad I did😂 I still think it’s so good!
That's great to hear! I'm glad you found my playthrough helpful. My first game went badly as well. But the chaining is fun even when I'm not scoring points. :) Thank you so much for checking out my video!
Kanban EV solo is great, but it is definitely the worst way to play. 4 player and even 3 player Kanban is so amazing. And I find the administration of the solo opponents plus Sandra to require more time and cognitive load than I prefer. Inventions streamlines that and makes the solo more fun for me personally. But I'll still happily play Kanban solo if I need a fix. I'll just be thinking the whole time about how much I enjoy it with three more players. Thanks for watching!

@TotallyTabled my favourite are Lisboa, CO2, and Escape Plan that so many people don't like at all😂

I hope you enjoy the game and I hope the playthrough helps. Thanks for watching and have fun!
