    I usually hate the crows but Jarman's 4th and 5th goals were sublime. That's how you kick a footy.

      @J G What's your point? You're watching an AFL focused You Tube channel and you want to talk about how popular soccer is in the rest of the world? We all know that soccer is world wide. Doesn't mean that I have to like it. Over a third of the world's population also like rice. I don't. Just another irrelevant fact to state on an AFL You Tube channel.

    That year the Premiership cup really should have read "Lost by North Melbourne."

    Such a heartbreaking loss took me ages to get over it how did we lose that game 2 goals 11 to the punt road end take nothing away from Adelaide they were superb in that second half.

    Bad kicking will always kill you in finals. It happened to Geelong in 08, it happened to Essendon in the 1999 prelim. Although Essendon defied this rule in 1984.

    footy was sooo much better back in the 90's

      +Cutt Sick It was a good decade of footy no doubt, however I still think that the modern age of footy is better-far more skilful, quicker (although they both can be a bit slow at times) and just better athletes in general now the game just keeps evolving and you'd find a lot of the teams of the early 00's, 90's and 80's would find it near impossible to catch up (excluding Hawks of the 80's, Essendon 2000 etc).

      Liam#29 I don't agree with that , I don't think the bulldogs of 2016 would of beaten any of the grand finalists from the 90s ,

    • @matt7872
      @matt7872 7 років тому +2

      I think they would tbh, the 90s brand of football wasn't quite as refined and skillful as it is today. There is obviously no really saying for sure though.

      Liam#29 After watching a lot of 90's games and 2000's games I have a theory that the main reason that people think the game was faster was partly due to the camerawork.
      The technology and skill has come leaps and bounds since the 90's and I find that the camerawork was much more frantic, which created an illusion that the game was super fast.
      In those 90's games you always see a long kick, where the camera pans forward to the point of landing suuuper fast before the ball even gets there. Often when a player kicked the ball short, the camera would pan forward way too fast only to pan back to where the ball actually landed.
      It was like the cameramen were on speed and were constantly over judging where a ball would land.
      Also without much use of higher perspective shots back in those days, that are used constantly today, the camera had to do more work, requiring fast movement to catch the flight of a kick. Whereas nowadays the movement is smooth and bigger shots can capture an entire kicks flight without moving the camera much at all, causing it to seem like things are moving slowly because the camera does not have to move very fast to capture the action in the game.

    • @sportjunky4371
      @sportjunky4371  7 років тому +2

      To add to my previous comment, games were still faster back then with higher instances of playing on, but the camera's made it look faster than it was, and there was definitely a trade off with skills vs speed of the ball movement across the ground.
      Honestly i was writing a really long comment on this before and then i accidentally closed my window :(
      In essence I think the game evolves as teams that develop winning strategies such as geelong in 2007, it spurs experimentation from the other teams to attempt at beating them, which is what collingwod did to win the 2010 premiership, they developed a high pressure suffocation technique in order strangle any teams ability to move swiftly through the corridor. This obviously causes more congestion.
      This high pressure strategy was basically beaten by Hawthorn in late 2011 early 2012, their ability to control the ball so well and set up their attacks with fantastic structure was able to defeat the high pressure game style of that time. I think i preferred the way the game was being played around 2012 more than i do now in 2016.
      I hate to admit it but the hawthorn of 2012-2013 were a fantastic team to watch, they just somehow clicked so perfectly together and their skills under pressure and general positioning was probably better than any team that has ever played the game. The hawthorn of those 2 years was comparable to Brisbane of the early noughties in the way their whole team just managed to click so perfectly together, they always felt dangerous and never stagnant.
      Cut to 2014-2016 and I think this is where the game started to get a little worse, hawthorn changed their game style to a more kick to kick, build up play, and that is honestly the most boring footy to watch of any style you can think of. The general speed of the game dropped this year, a lot more tackles, not much reward. Players are a lot more skilled at hard ball gets and contested footy now but if you have packs of multiple players trying to the same thing, there is just constant congestion.
      I tend to like watching the bulldogs play however i am not sure the direction that their style may take the game. They rely heavily on contested footy and love to scrap.
      That being said, this years gf was the best since 2012.

    Thanks heaps for the videos you do a great job! , very suprised you have less than 2000 subscribers . Was wondering if you could also do the 1997 grand final ? . 97 & 98 are probably the best grand finals I can remember , that's coming from a collingwood supporter :) .

      Really? 1997 and 1998?
      What about the Draw in 2010? Or The two Sydney v West Coast Grand Finals in '05 and '06.
      Or what about this years Grand Final?
      Oh well, each to their own I guess.

    The definitive example of wasting your opportunities and having them come back to whip you in the ass. North should have been 10 goals up by half time but allowed Adelaide to stay in the game, thus losing it for them. Lucky for North they were taught a very valuable lesson by Adelaide in opportunity taking and were able to capitalize on there opportunities the next year against Carlton.

      ***** Yeah, and thoroughly outplayed the favoured North Melbourne when it mattered. That was the finals system at the time, and now it's been changed to a fairer system. We won, and that's that.

    Wow, probably the best second half the Crows had played all that season. Amazing how different they were after half time, especially considering they looked like they weren't really trying in the first half.
