Siemens SC-44 Charger Locomotives in Action
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 січ 2022
- The Charger is a relatively new Diesel-electric locomotive built by Siemens Mobility in Sacramento, California. There are currently three different locomotive models in this series. The SC-44, the SCB-40, and the ALC-42. The SC-44 was the original Charger locomotive model and many different transit agencies from all over the United States have taken delivery of these locomotives since 2016. Let’s take a look at the SC-44 Charger locomotives running for every operator that has received these units as of 2021. We’ll see locomotives in commuter train service as well as on state funded Amtrak trains.

Great video Mike!! Personally I have love the chargers but nothing can replace the F59PHI locomotives on Amtrak Cascades
Thank you, Sam! They're both neat locomotives!
@@CoasterFan2105 lots of railfans don't like the SC44's because many claim them to be ugly but people said the same thing about the F59's when they were new
@@CoasterFan2105 lol we need a cab subdivision
Fun Fact: The Siemens Charger is Siemens first foray into the North American Heavy Rail market, and one of the most successful passenger locomotives since the F40 in terms of buyers
@AyoDen👑 yeah that doesn't matter
Stop spamming
@JackOnGames600 When did that happen?
That and the ACS-64!
@JackOnGames600 I was talking to the first commenter
People are going to kill me for this, but the SC-44 is my favorite Amtrak locomotive.
Mines too Along with ALC-42
i agree 👍💯☺️😊😌
Hey Mike,......as a former B-N Explorer from the 1970's, I want to thank you for your posts, and it's a treat to be a member of your You Tube channel. I give you a " High Green " on the board.

Thanks very much, Richard. I have quite a few videos on the former BN territory in the Northwest planned for this year. Glad you like the videos!
i agree 👍💯☺️😊😌
Your videos never cease to amaze me Mike! Great footage of these SC44 locos! :)
Fantastic Footage Mike! As much as I miss the F59PHI's, I've gotten to like this Chargers more and looking forward to a new upload from you next week!
I like all variants of the locomotives. Which variant is your favorite Mike?
ALC-42!
@@CoasterFan2105 hey! The alc 42 is my favorite veriant too!
Yet another great video!!! Nice work Mike! My favorite is the Amtrak SC-44 Charger in the Amtrak Midwest paint scheme!!
really love to see this locomotive go! thanks for the upload and hello from cumberton england (united kingdom)
Nice Video Mike! I love these! I have an uncle who drives these! I visited him once and he let me blow the horn! He also gave me wonderful hornshows!
That's awesome! And thanks!
Awesome! I love SC-44s! My favorite one is the Coaster 5002.
Who else misses the F59s :(. Rest in Paradise.
The good news is that most of the F59s are still in service!
@@CoasterFan2105 yes but sadly not in california
@@CoasterFan2105 though I do see occasional F59PHs at LA Union during rush hour
@@CoasterFan2105 how else can I contact you I would love to talk more about trains
@@RailVisionaries They're alive and well still in NorCal if you are ever headed in that direction. All of the 15 Caltrans-owned locos are still running, though I'm quite sure one is in the shops after a collision with a truck.
Love the SC-44s Mike great video, and great content as always!
Hi mike I love your videos the sc44s are my newest favorite but I still mis the old locomotives
Thanks so much!
Thanks,Mike I really enjoy the new Coaster locomotive blue-teal green👍💙😊
Literally all of them are my favorite
Thanks Mike. Always like the Coaster and Surfliner since I live in the San Diego area.
3:28 What a great scenery!
fantastic and wonderful!! I love these!
This thing is going places. It knows where the location is. Cool.
Nice work, Mike!
Very interesting video! Great shot!
Awesome
Thank you!
This an awesome video as always mike I was fortunate enough to see wsdot 1402 a few days before the point defiance accident
Nice shots! I hope to see some when I go back to California!
Thanks!
Nice video with SC44 chargers. ;)
That's wonderful!
Very nice video about the Siemens Charger. But I like the P42 very much, they have a different charm. The new ones are more modern.
Great shots as always, and a great set of locomotives to boot. I definitely prefer when transit agencies like MARC, WashDot, Coaster, and The Surfliner match up their locomotive paint schemes to their existing paint schemes or decide to get new coaches/ repaint and refurbish existing ones to match, and after a few years and seeing them in person as well as on the internet the locomotives have definitely started to grow on me. I still don't get what they're doing with the regular CalDot chargers though, is there a plan to refurbish/ repaint or replace the California cars completely?
*ster*
There's a way to replace the California Cars and Surfliner Cars so that's why they'll order new bi level cars.
I Love those Trains, Mister Mike Armstrong!
The SC-44s are a whole lot cleaner than the F125s.
And look a lot better too. The f125s look ridiculous
Yeah, right?
@@OrangeCountyRails I mean, the horn on the f125 is not too good for me
@@adventuresofamtrakcascades301 No they don’t. The Chargers look ridiculous!
Looks like EMD copied the design for the Sc44s
Keep up the great work
Thank you, I will!
The Siemens charger locomotives are pretty good, it will be sad that they are going to have their Genesis locomotives retired. I hope you have a happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Besides, the P42 could put out a little *soot* when it was working hard. I was glad I could see it going back north in May 2021.
I knew I was riding a real train, then.
Great Video!!! I'll miss the P42's when they are gone, but the Chargers are starting to grow on me a little bit
The Chargers are a lot quieter. (Bummer. I liked hearing and *feeling* the sounds of those Big GE engines.)
It’s crazy the fact I’ve been watching this channel from childhood to adult hood
I do miss the f59ph locomotives, I love how Metra kept a lot of old locomotives
Nice Video Mike! ❤️👍
Have a great weekend mike
Thanks, you too!
Remarkable
Thanks!
Congratulations!
The Pacific Surfliner Paint is The best looking Paint scheme on the Charger so Far.
The new bi level cars for Capitol Corridor and Pacific Surfliner will match the paint scheme on the Siemens Chargers.
The charger family are amazing and charming!!
Great video Coaster

Old is gold
For me, Old and New equal
I have the Cascade in N scale and it is awesome!
These futuristic and some consider ugly locomotives are the backbone of many commuter railroads such as coaster and marc now a days
Great!
Nice video mike! I have actually never known that there is a SC-44 charger for casade.
Beautiful trains.
awesome captures mike...
Great video, I like the SC-44s! The only thing I don't like about them is that they don't go well with train sets like the Surfliners where the F59s were as tall as the cars and lined up well with them, same goes to the new Cascades sets. I do like that they line up very well with the bombardier sets from Coaster and Ace and Marc's multilevel cars. What is your personal preference on the streamlining?
Hey
Great Video Mike
No wonder the Chargers were an instant success
Very great video!
beautiful engines :D
I like the locomotives to be honest but my favorites are the SC-42's on Via, I think the paint schemes look good unlike others who complained about it being "bland". And an unpopular opinion of mine is that I generally prefer raised letters because it gives a horn a real purpose to warn someone not older horns that are just for foamers to listen to.
The older horns certainly warn, but in a much more pleasant way. The Raised Letters certainly do the same thing and sound good but don't sound pretty.
3:40 hold up! Marc has SC-44 chargers too?!
They replaced the AEM-7’s but still using the HHP-8’s, and GP39H-2’s (in case)
Yup! A few of them!
Great video
The charger's K5LA is one of, if not the best horn ever, besides the K5LLA
Hey mike! Awesome video😎! I recently saw some coaster trains. Does coaster still use the f59s in regular service?
Temporarily. In 2023, they will unfortunately be replaced by four more SC-44s that are set to arrive in San Diego around that time.
Nice video I also like the chargers
I Love ❤️ The SC-44 Charger Horns
Nice
Thank you!
That was a very awesome video!!!!
Thanks!
@@CoasterFan2105 Your very welcome.
The Echo @ 4:15 could put me to sleep
I wonder why people don’t buy the F125 besides Metrolink. It seems really interesting. But great vid :)
Because it was problematic
Thanks for watching!
Mike, if you’re in Colorado sometime, then you may have heard of Amtrak’s Winter Park Express from Denver, CO to Winter Park Resort for those people who wish to ski. I think you could capture every shot on both video and image.
It's too beautiful.
For the paint schemes on the SC-44 Charger, I think so far I like the colors on the Coaster and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner engines. However, the paintwork for the Chargers used on the Amtrak Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin route could use some more blue and a bit more yellow on the side. The new Venture coaches could use them too, even when those two services are soon ready to claim new doubledecker coaches. I know the paint scheme on the new Airo sets for the Pacific Northwest will look much better than the previous paint scheme designs on the Cascades.
I think they should extend the cascades to Klamath falls or bend, although a new line to bend will have to cut through the Columbia River gorge and go south through existing BNSF lines.
Very good 😊! I like it 👍!
Thanks!
@@CoasterFan2105 You're welcome 🤗!
The Ace charger locomotives are my favorite locomotives
VIA Rail Canada had Siemens Charger (Called SC-42)
Yeah, but they aren’t in service yet.
@@travisbecker770 They’re testing
That is true. They were originally going to be SC-44s, just like these. But by the time they started testing, I had already completed this video. That's why it has a watermark from last year still.
@@CoasterFan2105 That’s awesome
I love the sound of the dopler on 7:24

the Charger trains are cool but rip f59phi and coaster f40 I see UTA front runner mp36
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
@@CoasterFan2105 NP i mean you are my favorite YT channel
I’m a little un decided on witch one is my favorite but i like the paint on the Coaster & Ace Chargers
For me it's the Cascades Charger
Love them or hate them, the Siemens Charger is probably going to be the new F40PH.
Happy Martin Luther King Day, Mister Mike Armstrong!
I thought the Q&A was supposed to come out today and the siemens charger video next week?
Yeah, so did I.
It was supposed to come out today. Unfortunately, because the file is so large, my computer was not able to publish the project in time, even though I stayed up late into the night last night hoping it would finish. The Q&A will come out next week instead. I will probably make a post about it later.
@@CoasterFan2105 oh, I see. Thx
Just a question, are the series 6 talgos on Amtrak cascades still in service?
Yes they are
Is the alc engine 300 still in the testing phase or has it been cleared for service
Still testing and crew familiarization. Service within the next few months.
@@CoasterFan2105 oh ok. Thank you
Beautiful new locomotives!!
Looks sorta like the class 68 (though it’s built by stadler/vossloh rather than siemens) mixed traffic loco here in the UK
At 11:02 are those catenaries for the future Caltrain?
Wait, what happened to the Q&A? I read this month's schedule.
I did too. This is really confusing. Maybe Mike delayed the q&a for some reason but didn't post on the community tab to let us know
@@natesmainlinevids maybe one of those things
I finished editing it on Wednesday but unfortunately, the file is so large that my computer was not able to render and process the final file in time. I will be making a post about it soon. It should be ready to go for next week.
@@adventuresofamtrakcascades301 I would've, but by the time I made the final decision to postpone it for another week, it was about 4 AM this morning. An update post will be coming later.
@@CoasterFan2105 Oh. I guess that explains why the Siemens video was a week early.
The Charger is basically becoming the new EMD, but it has advantages that neither EMD or even the GE Genesis never had, with the multiple power options. Just in MARC's case, it has both ACS-64 variants now under the wire, but will also get SC-44 for Brunswick and Camden Line services - and with largely common operating controls, how much, if anything, is different in the cabs?
Capitol Corridor has the best paint scheme.
I like how they all have the same horn! I wish Caltrain bought these instead of going electric!
Looks like the P42s has got a brother
I love chargers so much but nothing is going to replace the p42dc and f40ph
Ya spotted me!
MARC railroad charger is my fave 😀😁☺️🙂😃😸
