In the mid-1970s, a series of purported supernatural events took place in a small, yellow, wooden slatted house in a suburb of Bridgeport, Connecticut. At a time when demonic forces were very much in vogue, the Goodin family were plagued by all manner of phenomena that quickly drew the attention of the national press, along with thousands of curious onlookers. Despite the contemporary fervour that it sparked and the similarities to several other, far more well traversed, supernatural tales such as Amityville in America, or Enfield in the UK, the events that took place in Bridgeport in the mid-70s have, remarkably, managed to slip largely under the radar, cloaked from wider public attention. Less glamorous but no less fantastic, the case of the Lindley Street haunting, officially struck off as a hoax before a swift U-turn by the authorities, remains as one of the most dramatic and well documented cases in the history of the American Supernatural to this day.

I don't know if you wrote this story yourself, but damn dude.
The way the words flow together is remarkable. Pulls you right into the story.
My dad grew up a block or two away from this house and told me this story a few times, it peaks my interest so much. He went to school with the girl and said she was always just weird and off.
Is the girl- now a lady- still alive?
@@lametafisicaconariyana2185 her name was Marcia Goodin and looks like records say she passed on feb 10 , 2015

A year+ sub and still finding that very rare gem I overlooked or didn't digest from early onset sleepy times. You've far and surpassed Bedtime Stories at this point in my nighttime narration, and someday future listeners won't believe you once had only 20k subscribers
This is a TRUE STORY!
My mothers former husband who was in the real estate business was called to check out this property located at 966 Lindely Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Little is known about this haunted house but back in the 70s it got some media coverage for a little while and police and reporters happened to be there on the scene that day. There was supposedly a young girl who was adopted and practiced witchcraft and the television and other items in the home were said to levitate and most shocking of all rumors of a talking cat that cursed at people and said awful things was said to be there. Not to mention the 9 on the house number sometimes would turn around and be 666 which was really creepy. My moms husband was a skeptic until he himself actually said he saw the cat and it swore at him and its eyes did glow and he saw things flying around the house. This actually DID happen.....it's hard for people to believe but he couldn't believe it himself. Ed and Lorraine Warren also were involved in this case so i'm surprised a movie hadn't been made about it yet. A lot of people were skeptical about this story but my moms husband who once thought paranormal stuff was just for movies...swore that what he witnessed was real and the cat did talk.
It's hilarious what ignorant people will believe.
"Lorraine felt waves of nausea wash over her, this was caused, surprisingly not from being married to Ed..." BEN! Is this your sly humour coming through?? I was so sure I was going to hear you laugh after you read this line! You're a caution, you are! hahahha!
You shouldn't speak ill of the dead.
Definetely subscribed! This kept me intrigued. My mom grew up near Lindley street when her and her friend Evelyn would walk to and from school. She once saw someone that was following them walk in back of that house. My mom stopped and started to follow her when she took the corner no one was there. Some pretty creepy things have gone on there! Awesome stuff 🤙🏼
Arghhhh BULLSHET
Speaking from experience, what makes the patrolman credible in this case is not their credible as sworn officers but in that cops are always afraid to be outed and ridiculed by their fellow officers. What these cops saw we so remarkable and unsettling that they were willing to submit themselves to ridicule in order to share what they had seen.
The officers that were so called witnesses were telling lies fibs and bullshet all along BOY
@@kazamk5367 Cops are cynical and close minded by nature so the fact that a sworn officer would put paranormal observations in a report means they happened.. BOY
@@bnasty3332 arghhhhh another lie after lie and bullshet theories as usual BOY . Cut the nonsense once and for all LEROY
I love your Channel! I don't understand how you don't have ten times the sub.count.not that it matters but I just don't get it anyhow keep up the great work .best kept secret on UA-cam.thank you
0:15 That’s why I find it very difficult to believe any of these accounts. Thanks to films like Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, the occult was now made “fashionable”. Movies and novels kept feeding the fire created by all this interest. The Amityville Horror was probably the worst example of this big rush to scare ourselves to death. Thank you for posting this very fascinating story though. Excellent job.
Ed and Lorraine LOVED telling BULLSHET Stories and making millions of dollars of cold hard cash from their book sales
I was 14 yrs old and lived less than 10 mins away from this house. Our next door neighbor was a cop and we were also friends with (as I remembered) a couple cops and firemen at that time. We heard first hand about some of the crazy things that happened. I feel that something strange was actually happening but some of the rumors became distorted as they past from mouth to ear. We were also familiar with the Warren's around that decade (they visited my uncle's house) and in my opinion they exaggerated things a bit.
Arghhhhhh Mama G Bear enough of telling more crap BULLSHET AND LIES OK. YOU stop telling lies ok
ed and Lorraine really hurt their credibility when the Amityville story was exposed by the victims. i had to laugh when i saw lorraine on a show, i cant remember if it was paranormal state or ghost adventures, but anyway she walked into a house and proclaimed "i feel a sinister presence" only to have the host say "we arent in the right section of the house yet".
Ed and Lorraine were cowards and making up BULLSHET stories all along
I remember this house being blocked off for 1 to 2 weeks. My dad worked near there. Could not even drive by and many of the officers refused to reenter the home. Crazy because something unusual really took place. I will never forget this incident
that’s crezy
for officers to take something supernaturally seriously, you know it’s real
And don't forget that Dark Shadows began in 1966...
My Grandparents lived two blocks away from this address, on Anson street. I'm old enough to remember driving past 966 Lindley street and seeing mobs of reporters out there around the time this haunting occured
I grew up in Bridgeport and to this day I sometimes go for a ride past 966 Lindley street. In fact, just a few months ago, someone moved in right next door to 966 Lindley Street. Not only that but at that same time they replaced the roof on 966 Lindley Street. Also, every so often that house does go on the market. No hauntings reported since that time in the early 70s.
There is nothing haunted about this house. In fact when this 'Haunting' occured, they were building condos right behind their property which the homeowner didn't like. That's the reason for this haunting nonsense.
The only unique thing about 966 Lindley as well as 968 Lindley street is that they look identical and are the ugliest, smallest houses on Lindley street. Go onto google earth and you will see what I mean.
I wonder if your grandparents were neighbors with my grandparents because my dad and grandparents lived a block or two away also at this time and my dad remembers the mob and police out there also and the stories being said amongst the crowd lf what they seen and what police said they'd seen. He also went to school with the girl and said she was quiet and weird.
How do you explain the testimony of the eyewitnesses?
@@spaztron5000 Exaggerations and wanting to be a part of the hysteria
@@spaztron5000 why do you need to explain it? You're acting like people can't just lie.
They didn't like the condos being built and fake-trashed their house and in the process made it unsellable? OK that makes sense.
Not really a fan of The Conjuring, but after 2's much appreciated Christmas backdrop, this sounds perfect to bolster the relative rarity of Thanksgiving horror flicks
The most hilarious side-comment, to me, was that Lorraine's nausea was not caused by be married to Ed Warren. Funny! As someone who saw them in many videos and programs of the time, I would still vote that the nausea probably was caused by Ed.
Actually watching a show on this. There was something going on there.
Anyone interested in Italian urban legends?
Depends. Legend or truth?
@@reason5591 I mean there's plenty of both
i grew up down the mf street of this house, theres a cementary on the street . i hate bridgeport
Given the fact that there are no pictures or videos to be found even though allegedly there were tons of reporters there seems strange.
Agreed
I attended a lecture by Ed and Lorraine on Halloween 1975.
I was a teenage stoner and even I thought they were bogus.
My opinion is that these stories are motivated reasoning overlaid onto fables. The poltergeist story is meant to tell us about the importance of family bonds. The sense in which the poltergeist is a literal truth is that it is made into a supernatural force when we fail in building and maintaining family bonds. By ignoring the real world problems with real world solutions, we allow demons to take hold. Instead of addressing the problems, we blame the demons.
So, yes, poltergeist are real. But it takes a lot more than a mystical incantation to get rid of them.
Have you personal experience living in a real life haunted house? I have, and just wondered if you have.
This is my Aunt and Uncles place you are talking about
Starts talking about Lindley Street House 11 minutes in btw. Thanks for uploading.
This house is an hour away from me! Fun!!
The Enfield case has never been Debunked
It was never proved either..probably because poltergeists do not exist.

Edit: I have a feeling you aren't a fan of Ed and Lorraine XD
Is anyone a fan of the Warrens?😂 I actually believe in the supernatural, but the Warrens were just con artists.
True my mom was a police detective at the time and corroborates it
Just moved on to an apartment been three years ya . Mine is to, they don't tell the truth.
I had my own experience with a spirit or spirits. 30 yrs ago. My son was almost 7 he witnessed it also. They'd knock things of walls wind up a musical picture frame of my son and I. I was 9 months pregnant I was sleeping then I sat straight up in bed as one small white cloud one did a u turn and went downstairs. 😱
Gee and no proof.????? No footage???? No good photos???????
I wish the conjuring 4 is based on this story or even better Amityville🔥🔥

Never been this early. Yayyy🎆🎆
i did very much enjoy this episode you had some very good points an some what i thought were very biased ( particularly against the warrens lol ) i dont completely agree with you but they had done some things that were a bit - dodgy....yeah. Its the only thing about Hysteria . it sends people mad and quite judgmental , some for and some against ...and when it comes to paranormal it can either take it out of proportion or make it severely underestimated ..all the more energy to play around with and mess with peoples minds , perfect just what it intended ! you could go in all minds about this case it can go any which way , no one really knows the truth do they ? except for the "victims " or were they? something for you to ponder for many years to come LOL..either , way thankyou for this awesome episode and information :)
Is the house still up? People claim they tore the house down years ago! Couldn’t confirm just wanted to know!
