I just picked a set of these up a few days ago at a WWII event vendor. I remember hearing good things about this pattern. Now I can see this stuff was definitely a great pattern. Thanks for sharing!
I believe this was an excellent pattern for its time. I still have my Dad's old ones from Vietnam. I wish someone would still make them because where I live it's green almost all year long. I know that we are in the 21st century and everything is going digital.
it is, most living things are attracted by movement, so when you dont move many animals, and humans dont see you. even if you just wear something simple like a red flanel shirt to hunt, it actually works. I mean: how often do you struggle to find keys or your phone that sits right infront of you ;)

Hello Brent... you always do an excellent job on your Camouflage Effectiveness videos. Realistically speaking --- no one on youtube is as effective as the portrayals, comparisons, investing in the pattern clothing, and putting the boots on the ground making the time to do all this. Very well done! Thank you!
It’s a very dark camouflage and not effective in bright green summer foliage unless your constantly in the shadows and on the ground. So far my favorite camouflage that Brent has is a few Russian like the partizan and other light green ones from the 70s-80s-90s
One of my favorite patterns. This and the Vietnam issue o.d. green uniforms are getting hard to find nowadays. I use to see these all the time when I was a kid. Not anymore. Great video Brent!
Jay Hawley got about 10 pr brand new OD trousers, 5 new OD jackets and goodness knows how many used sets still in very good shape even though I wore them everywhere. Can't wear them out. Cloth just seems to have shrunk a bit.... couldn't be that I put on weight could it?! Always liked the slanted chest pockets and the smaller pocket inside the left thigh pocket (was for a jungle survival kit that was never developed/issued); made a great place to carry a wallet! Double rows of stitching on thigh pockets made them sturdier, and they didn't have damn reinforced seat and knees. Always thought those features on BDUs unnecessary.
It is very effective I bought one in VA last year and wore it in south american forests, tropical and subtropical forests have much more different green contrasts
If it weren’t for the fact that I knew you were there and I was specifically looking for you I wouldn’t have seen you at all for a lot of these. That’s some very effective camo there.
Actually was issued a few sets in the late 90s for a deployment, and fell in love with the stuff. Works great in an jungle environment. And the blacks aren't so black that they give a noticable IR signature.
Fantastic, older patterns are great and this one has stood the test of time. I'd like to see you get hold of a Brush Stroke British Para smock but they were hard to get in the 80s as the Paras wore them till they fell to bits.
Thanks its coming, I have actually already filled it and several other videos. I just haven't had the time to edit them and put them together. This footage right here was actually filmed about a month ago.
Great video. pattern is most effective if you are actually behind leaves and branches; however, in some cases I could spot you because you appear darker than the environment around you. Will work really good in dark or overcast days. Thanks for your hard work and service.
M81 Woodland is derived from the Brown ERDL, by enlarging the segments by 1.6 factor. M81 was designed with the medium and large range in mind, but was easier to detect at short range. Green ERDL did better at the short range, but color faded into a solid blub at the the large range. Personly I prefere the Green ERDL over woodland.
@@mardiffv.8775 Perhaps. But, its pretty well established that all camouflage's (regardless of pattern used) tend to blend into one average color at distance above a point where your eye can distinguish between the distinct pattern shapes. This is typically just after a few dozen yards. (at most) The smaller the shapes in the pattern, the sooner it happens. How well a particular camo will work at distance is largely a function of how well its various colors "average" out into the environment it is being used in. As a wildlife photographer in the southeast John Wayne Tiger stripe has been by far the most effective. I stalk with a scout dog or alone. All my really close pics was while wearing tigers. That is a possibility but would be something done down the line if ever. With that said Bruce and I could certainly pull such a project off. Until then, I will be releasing Brown dominant soon so you will see it in the same exact environment during the same time of the year.
Awesome. Also, as an aside, I dropped an E-mail to A-Tacs praising your prowess, and recommending they help you out with some of their goodies. Fat lot of good it will probably do, but... The quitters never finished and the cowards never started.
When I was a boy I had a lowlands jacket and uplands trousers. I was always able to sneak up to my friends who were wearing woodland BDUs. Great for Florida. Only thing better was DK Flatwoods.
Love that you're doing ERDL. I have been lucky enough to score a set of real deal green dominant recently and an additional shirt. I love the stuff, it really looks different than the reproduction stuff, not sure exactly why but I have theories on the fading.
These are repros, I have an original set too , I put them next to each and they are pretty spot on. I didn't want to risk ripping my originals so that's why I went with the repros.
Very good camo, but I will still say, that eg. the German 44 dot SS. pattern work better in general and overall IMHO. This is something that turn to a dark blob a little bit, but for jungles and pine forests I am sure, that this stuff will be very good all in all. Definitely.
ThroatNotchingTrout ZZZ you have some truth there. That German camo is truly real effective in the woods. I’ve done some stuff where some people had that pattern of camo and it’s super effective. Of course like any, you have to use it properly but with that pattern and if used right, you pretty much have to play it by ear to find the person.
Hey Brent you should do a video on Mitchell camo in a vegitated woodland environment. It’s the original helmet cover camo during the Vietnam war. I thought this was the one but it looks different and looks more bright green which I think would work better with a lot of greenery especially with a lot of light
Where did you find this camo for sale ? I've looked and found nothing in my size which is about your size. I have some ERDL but it's getting worn out. Love your videos. Keep up the good work. Thanks
Sir Thank you for your videos and the information you put out! What is the best way to keep turkey mites and deer ticks off when doing operations in woodland/swampy AO's. Thanks again for your service to our great country!
Stay on trails and don't let anything brush against your body. Ticks wait on low growth and when you brush against the growth, they grab onto you, sneak into an opening, inject a novacaine substance so you don't feel their bite, bite you and suck your blood. Nasty things. Perfect survival species.
Great presentation as always. A predecessor to M81, I had a feeling it would be effective. Over time, I've watched some of your other videos on camoflaging your gear, and ambushing, and maybe I missed it as I was watching those, but maybe you can share with us how you decide where to sit/lay down in these? I know you're not trying to hide completely, but your positions make the most out of these patterns. Sometimes very hard to see in plain sight. From a hunter's perspective, I would find it helpful when considering positions for hunting game with good sight (like turkeys). Like why one bush instead of another, the light/shadows in one spot work better, the colors of one place over another, and so-on. Maybe that's not something that can fit in one video, or maybe some trade secrets. Either way, just a thought. Thanks!
Brent0331, after testing all these different camo types, what is your absolute favorite camo you would choose above all else if the SHTF scenario ....???? Thanks for all the videos....
TheIamfrustrated there's reproduction stuff out there, but doesn't quite match the originals. Original has a distinct black shape in the pattern (looks like a sperm--its a black blob with a tail!) that is missing on reproduction stuff. Colors a bit off to me. I'm lucky to have 2 original sets, one pristine condition, one slightly used with USMC stencils. Got the original boonie hat to match. Definitely my favorite camo uniform. Well, maybe tied with British woodland DPM....
TheIamfrustrated about 25 years ago Atlantco (make military STYLE uniforms, think they became Tru-Spec, but not sure) got hold of original ERDL green dominant cloth and TRIED to make copy uniforms, but they were horrible. Pocket flaps were wider than pockets and not aligned, sewing was pitiful. Some of that crap still out there. Been several years now, but bought some "original" ERDL stuff from Strand Surplus. Low and behold, had Atlantco tags on it, not govt issue tags. Had a row with them, they kept insisting it was GI issue but I knew damn well it wasn't. Just be careful if you plan on getting any. Don't know how much you know about original issue equipment, just always check for the manufacturers tags and stock numbers and become familiar with what they should look like. Some places, like Rothco, put BS stock numbers on to make them look more authentic, especily on their copies of OD Vietnam uniforms. Should say that companies that make reproduction stuff are usually up front about it and it is pretty close to original. About as good as you can get.
The Vietnam era Marine issue stuff has the best color, it's ripstop material and far more green than what you see here, it's also ridiculously expensive and pretty much unavailable in any larger sizes anymore so buy it if you get the chance.
This to me is Slightly better then Digital camo stuff. Good video, if the BG was going through the woods and you were still they might pass you, but not you in a Digital camo. Heard Ireland might go with a Digital pattern, maybe you should have a talk with them. Another, Good video as Usual, thanks
Can you do A-Tacs iX. Your buddy tried, but he was not fully clothed in the camouflage, thereby somewhat making the videos easy to spot him. You tend to do a much better job of camouflaging yourself!
Cost more than I'm willing to pay at the moment. If I wasn't doing these videos where i'm constantly spending money to acquire new patterns it wouldn't be an issue. I've reached out to the ATACS guys to see if I could acquire a sample, and they told me they didn't have anything at the moment but would keep me in mind if they receive any extra demonstration pieces. So well see if anything comes of that. I am very interested in the pattern though.
That sucks, you are known as the king of camouflage by now hehe. They should throw camo patterns at you if they are any confident that they are good. I even saw you on German TV a while ago lol. Thanks that you still Make videos for us !
The theory of camouflage is to blend in with the colors of the local environment. ERDL pattern was developed to replicate the colors of foliage in the country of Vietnam. That is the reason why this pattern does not work with the area this demonstrator is occupying.

Great job and great classic camo pattern! Please, you should do a Camuflage Effectiveness on "M09 ARIDO PIXELADO" of the spanish army.
Thanks brother, if I ever get my hands on it I will.
Hey Brent you should do a video on Mitchell camo in a vegitated woodland environment. It’s the original helmet cover camo during the Vietnam war. I thought this was the one but it looks different and looks more bright green which I think would work better with a lot of greenery especially with a lot of light
Cool video
Very effective and still used, just went back to multi from digital
Awesome video
Thanks
Man this channel is awesome. If you ever get the time and opportunity I would love to see you test patterns in high desert sage.
+Evan Davis Thanks, unfortunately this is the only testing area available to me at the moment.
No worries, the videos from the place you use now are awesome enough. Thanks for the reply.
Where did you find this camo for sale ? I've looked and found nothing in my size which is about your size. I have some ERDL but it's getting worn out. Love your videos. Keep up the good work. Thanks
Moore's militaria had green dominant reproductions.
great presentation as always. outstanding weapon selection as well. crap, showing my age again.
Thanks brother.
this uniform looks better on you than on the Website you mentioned.
great video!
Thanks!
Thanks for commenting brother, maybe in the future
That would be awesome. Thanks for all the work you put into your content. Always fun, interesting and educational in their own way
Brent0331, after testing all these different camo types, what is your absolute favorite camo you would choose above all else if the SHTF scenario ....???? Thanks for all the videos....
Wish he would have answered this.
Amazing !
That stuff works really well there. I wonder if they still make the material.
Douglas Burch thanks for the heads up eh? I have some DPM and it is pretty decent stuff. Definitely like it more then Multicam.
The best camo
always enjoy your content, knowledge and variety of cammies. I think Im have a lot. You put me to shame! Ha!
This reminds me a ot of MultiCam Tropic.
scorecard 10-7 +1 that I laid my eyes upon the second before you sttod up (11th shot)
This one is very good.
nice video man.
Thanks
One of my favorite all time camo patterns! Did you get these from the source you gave me, or are these the real deal-not repros?
These are repro's from Moore's militaria. I have some originals as well, they're pretty spot on.
Thank you based Brent, may the Holy Monolith bless you
Nice Video bro!
Thanks
This reminds me of the former Taiwanese Army woodland camo.
Is this stuff effective even when faded?
INSANE_BANANA probably
Nice
Thanks
Every time I see erdl I think of the movie TAPS .
What parts are you missing? Tru-Spec has some good deals for IX at times.
Luckily, I know a few guys. Can you private message me your email?
The theory of camouflage is to blend in with the colors of the local environment. ERDL pattern was developed to replicate the colors of foliage in the country of Vietnam. That is the reason why this pattern does not work with the area this demonstrator is occupying.
DUH!!!! Found the link in the description.
looks awesome! where do you get all your camo gear?
Where ere I can, mostly from Ebay.
Brent0331 awesome thanks for the reply!
Works great
good stuff!
Really effective
I agree.
