I love that you explain things and show them. I'm so new to this all and everyone just says "this effects this" and moves on and doesn't explain what it means. You are very helpful! thank you!
I know nobody is probably gonna see this and this vid came out a while, but I'd just like to let you know about another way you can sidechain. There is an effect you can add called sidechain compressor, and you just need to link a peak controller to the S/C level, you also would need to put the base effect at zero. from there you can adjust all sorts of parameters and I just think this way gives you a bit more control.

In terms of filter, I prefer the calf filter. It offers more controls over how your filter can behave and how it sounds And as for sidechaining, there is another way I do it. It's more manual, but it offers so much more controllability. You use the 3xOsc, make the drum pattern in 1/16, throw peak controller on there, mute effect, play with knobs, and then like in the video, you connect sidechain controllers to that.
I actually started using LMMS for nearly two years now (this was during the peak of Covid during 2020) when I got my Laptop. Despite watching various tutorials, I never knew about the sidechains and 2x2 Plate/EQ. Keep it up.
Thanks boss man! This video really helped me out making better sounds also moving the song over used to take me forever now I can do with few key strokes!!
Hello! I don't use LMMS (I don't do music actually), but your video was top notch nonetheless. Just a thought, I found that the background music was a tad too loud at times, but maybe that's just me, and anyway your video was still top notch. Kudos, and thank you!
What damping does on reverb is gets rid of higher frequencies. High dampening means the high frequencies will end faster. I think the Bandwidth actually changes the frequency spectrum the reverb effects, it's not the same as a mix or Dry/Wet knob.. And blend is the same as Mix or Wet. And yeah, tail is how long the reverb lasts.
Yes you are correct. The bandwidth on that plugin refers to how many frequencies it will be reverberating at the same time, and no it’s not the same as a dry/wet knob.
i used ableton and loved it until my PC died. i fix computers but the mobo died and i've been broke since the pandemic began. i use Linux on a flash drive on an old PC with a dead hard drive. Reaper works GREAT but this finicky antix distro won't load dlls so i have to use .so vst instruments. i wrangled my reaper so it's a lot like ableton, but i took some acid tonight hoping to make better friends with LMMS and i stumbled across your video. i made this comment before i watched...
Did you look at Ardour and Zrythm for alternatives? Have to mention zrythm still not being at a stable release so a bit crashy last time I checked, but otherwise nice.
Seriously every time I want to get into lmms I mess around for about an hour, then watch some tutorials and get overwelmed by all the options effects etc. and turn off the PC lol. I just can't seem to get into it.
Pitch bend automation does not work on the Opulenz 2xOsc Synth. There is also glitchiness with VSTs and external plugins. I am in the process of compiling a list of plugins and VSTs that interface well with LMMS. I’ve been using it for over a decade and I’m still learning new shit. Once you get up the fairly steep learning curve, it begins to become much more intuitive. Once you learn global automation and side-chaining, your sound will get to a whole new level. After using FL and Acid for many years, I can confidently say that LMMS is on par with both, save for a few limited features. The biggest one being no onboard recording capability in the recent LMMS builds. That’s not a problem though; I just record into audacity, then import it into LMMS via sample track.
Hi, thanks for the info I've just started learning this daw. I've been a producer for about 12 years now and a signed artist on beatport. I use Fl studio and my computer fked up, lost everything. I totally agree lack of tools on lmms. My main problem with lmms is I can not find a tool to cut a melody, so say I only want to use the first 4 beats of a 8 bar bassline or melody, then progress to the full 8, I would like to know if this is actually possible on lmms?
Feeling the pain bro, I usually just clone the track and delete the ones I don't need. Or you can simply drag and cut those unneeded bars out with the little arrows
