Yeah New Gen era had lots of bad matches and bad gimmicks but the cream at the top was still much better than anything from the past 15 years in terms of all time stars.

TV shows have seasons and they have been written, produced and recorded ahead before being aired on TV so even if fans complain they can't do anything about it. However the producers take notice and adapt in the next seasons unless it's the last obviously.

10 years ago a megastar returned to give us one last run and he was rejected by marks. Now history is repeating itself. I really like Cody, but Rock vs Roman is a dream match we've been begging for since the moment Rock raised Roman's hand at the Royal Rumble. Everyone wanted to see that feud and now when we're getting it we don't like it anymore. Just to be clear, I would have been ok with Cody vs Roman at Wrestlemania and saving Roman vs Rock for Summerslam, but the way everyone turned on The Rock over night is disgusting.

All this chaos started because Hunter wanted to book Cody vs Roman at Mania 40, but Rock has more free time and wanted to do the match with Roman at Mania 40 which WWE have asked Rock to do the match with Roman for the past 10 years, but Rock couldn’t because he was too busy, but now he has more free time he was willing to do the match this year.
But Hunter and WWE are like nah we’re not interested anymore and want to do Cody vs Roman, yet WWE have constantly asked Rock to do the match with Roman for the past 10 years, and now Rock has more free time he was willing to the match this year.
And apparently Rock and Hunter had a conversation where Hunter said to Rock to listen to the marks basically, and Rock then agreed after Hunter persuaded him to then give Cody the match which is what Hunter wanted to book.
Because that’s Hunter now in a nutshell, Hunter is just a more disciplined Tony Khan. Hunter and Tony Khan both want to book to what the marks want.

I’m a wrestling fan, have been for over 30 years so I don’t believe its real much like I don’t believe movies and TV shows are real (despite the fact that some say based on a true story) however I do invest time into watching. If I invest 2 years into a story then I want it paid off in a satisfying way, that would be with Cody finishing his story. If you take a movie trilogy where the hero of the story gets to the final act of the 3rd film and doesn’t win you would be pretty pissed off about it, the whole point of any story is to see the hero win, and I fucking love the rock I have since he first joined the nation but this is the one instance I wouldn’t want to see him step in and basically steal the ending to someone else story. Again I am well aware the fights are predetermined or fake as you like to call them but my time and the time of millions of others is very real.

Marks are those who think it’s real, simp for female wrestlers, and listen to Jim Cornette’s podcast because he is of course, the Grand Cyclops of all these WWE marks. They bury every other wrestling company and cape for WWE.
I think this is a version of the story they were planning the whole time - Russo, as a writer, should understand this too. And the idea that all those people who want to see Cody are marks who think it's because they think it's real is kind of laughable. They're still marks, just not for what you think - they believe (basically what Russo is saying) that there's a battle going on in the writing room. But the WWE are not stupid enough to not understand controversy = cash. Plus, creative writing 101 class 1: "Show them what they want, and then don't let them have it" - just with The Rock and without Brock or CM Punk involved.

"Listening to the fans" is a terrible business practice since wrestling fans are the most fickle and business illiterate in the world. Look at how listening to the fans worked out for AEW in the last year And a half. Triple H is the biggest problem with WWE right now and the weak link they have to remove to start giving us compelling tv and storylines again

I agree with Vince on The Rock being in the main event. I was interested in see him at the top of ticket one more time. However, not against Roman. The guy is a charisma vacuum that made me stop watching WWE a few years ago, because the company stubbornly kept pushing him and I think that is the root of the problem. WWE's last two main guys Cena and Roman have driven away people away instead of bring in the casuals. You can argue with me all you want but the trend in ratings for RAW for the last 15 years and the view of Pro wrestling by the public says otherwise.

Here was an issue when The Rock did his where should I sit promo the crowd went crazy. At the time rumor I heard he had signed to wrestle yet. That would make sense for why Cody won the Rumble. See if they wanted Rock vs Roman and his deal should have been signed a few weeks before the Rumble. You have anyone else than win the Rumble. That guy faces Seth at Mania, and that clears the path for The Rock Roman at Mania.

Nash was right, the business died when Benoit and Guerrero became world heavyweight champions. That was the start of all this crap. It's like when Nirvana came out and from then on, there were no more "rock stars", just boring bands with guys that look like they work at a gas station. Now we have a wrestling industry full of guys that you wouldn't notice walking through an airport.
I think Benoit and Guerrero still had some credibility with the casuals. Eddie had lots of charisma and personailty and Benoit while short looked very stout and powerful. Id say it died when Danielson and Punk became champs and top guys. Those 2 are the antithesis of everything that VKM and the WWE built.

Any idea what percentage of the WWE audience the "Marks" are? I don't know that answer, but the danger is that if they do lose the Marks, which Vince says is impossible, the Casual Fans are just that. The Casual Fans have been a huge boost during the biggest eras of wrestling, but they don't stick around forever. They got bored as the Attitude Era dragged on and slowly dropped off. They were there for Mr. T and Rock and Wrestling in 1985, but they were disappearing by the end of the 80s. I have a feeling TKO intends to have eternal celebrity cross-overs but the McMahons learned that got old eventually and stopped drawing as well. There were exceptions, of course, such as with Mike Tyson. But I remember Jay Leno, and Dennis Rodman, in matches in WCW and the celebrity involvement all just feeling so bloated and stale and lame. David Arquette was a B-list star who won the WCW championship and it seemed to stall his career and WCW all at the same time. Anyway, great show as usual, Vince.

I wanted Rock and Roman to square off and when the WWE took it away because of the Cody Cry babies I absolutely knew they had caved and changed direction. It was obvious like Russo said, because Cody suddenly changed his mind 2 times for what?? Absolutely stupid
Hey bro! If the Rock wanted to main event wrestle mania he should've entered and won the rumble and it wouldn't be looked as much of a robbery or script it like that since it's not real!!!
The main event still has time to change again, doesn't it? What if they add The Rock in later to make it a triple threat match for the title, then everybody's happy.
"Mark" is a one-dimensional and insulting terminology for what every business needs- CUSTOMERS. WWE customers were insulted by Cody in the story, chasing Roman for not one year but TWO, and then at the last second after the Rumble establishes through script and intent: Cody vs Roman. It violated ALL of that to just have him blithely hand it over to Rock the next show. It also seemed a throwback to the "Vince changed his mind an hour before the show" days. I dont doubt some people did cry. We dont know the ages or maturity level of those involved. But I do know that YOU Vince Russo should not communicate in this lowest common denominator manner- leaving out or minimizing the fact that this sudden reversal of a story was caused by the whammy of several injuries and lastly Vince Mcmahon's extremely negative news threatening to overshadow the BUSINESS. Youre ignoring that the management panicked and made an illogical choice (THEY changed the plans. NOT the WWE customers). Not a calm logical one. After they settled down- they partially righted the mess they made- because the customers complained. For some odd reason Vince- you're assuming that management's panicky response was the "correct" one. It wasn't.
