    Remap Vs Safari ECU // Easy Tune update on my Safari ECU done remotely.
    So i fitted the Torqit exhaust on my 200 series LC a few weeks back and i needed to update the tune on the 200 to suit the new exhaust,
    I didnt have time to get into safari so they showed me how they can do it remotely in under 10 mins

    Thanks for the info on the chip. I'm considering one for my vdj79.
    And FYI - There's not much point blurring the VIN... You can chuck anyones rego into vicroads and it'll tell you their VIN and engine number. You also left it visible at 3:47, 4:23 - 4:48, etc, etc :)

      Lol yeah I thought about it half way through editing and came to the same conclusion so I didn’t bother editing anymore out.
      They work really well in the 79s. Lots of gains to be made with that motor.

    Very smooth software package. This reminds me of the Screaming Eagle tuner software for my Harley. You can change all the parameters yourself and map live recordings. A lot of fun...

    Well at least Safari have engaged Motec for software and most likely FPGA coding. They known what they are doing and supply many ECUs to motorsport.

    Don't mod your Diesel engine if it has a dpf, fit an oil seperator snorkel and at most a larger intercooler and diff gears.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  6 років тому +1

      Thanks. I don’t have a DPF. My 200 was pre DPF. But you can still mod the DPF models.

    • @straightupal
      @straightupal 6 років тому +1

      Well, I guess you can but you shouldn't.
      Dpf operation, be it timed or pressure difference triggered, needs around 600c to regenerate. A big exhaust will show less pressure at outlet sensor and will run cooler egts.
      Any increase in power will cause more exhaust particles, your dpf will clog up sooner.
      So they are all cowboys then...

    • @Safari4x4engineering
      @Safari4x4engineering 6 років тому +3

      The ARMAX ECU detects when a DPF regeneration is triggered and does not allow any additional power/torque whilst the re-gen is occurring to not upset the factory process and ensure the lifespan of the DPF. @@straightupal

    Great update steve, was going to ask how its going. I'm waying up what path to take. RRP of the safari tune being around 3-3.5k and not being a custom tune as oppose to a true custum tune around half the price, do you think the other unique features safari offer make up the difference.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  6 років тому +2

      Just the added safty feature alone are worth the extra coin in my opinion. But you can get a custom tune done with the safari unit.
      Map 5 is either an “ off “ mode. It a custom tune mode.
      There are heaps of safari authorized tuners around that can do it for you within the original purchase cost.

  • @rogercole9942

    Complex subject. Often simplified to modules vs unichips vs remaps which doesn't add much to the facts. Safari seems great because it's accessible to normal humans. Unless there are additional physical elements to be controlled (eg water/meth injection) the pinnacle imho is finding the right tuner (not easy.. everyone thinks they're an expert) who can tune the car as safe or crazy as you're after with no additional components. The theory that you can remove a module and go back for a warranty claim is just as immoral and achievable with all solutions.
    For what it is worth I have had generic remaps, unichip (cutom dyno tune), remaps done via dyno and road tuning. If you don't want to be consumed by chasing performance and tuning perfection I go a super safe generic remap of something like the safari.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  6 років тому +1

      I wouldn’t call the safari a generic remap because it’s not remapping anything.
      It’s a whole stand alone unit that can monitor its own actions and the cars reactions to adjust at a moments notice.

    • @rogercole9942
      @rogercole9942 6 років тому +1

      @@Australian4x4Adventures yeah absolutely. Didn't think I was implying that. Just saying those are two good and different options if you don't want your life consumed by tuning.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  6 років тому

      Sorry I must of miss understood the comment. I personally don’t know THAT much about tuning and finding a “ good tuner “ that’s why I was happy with the safty of the safari unit.

    Commenting on the dangerous act of re-tuning/ecu re-mapping your car. It is well known fact through out the car sales world around the world that if you re-map/re-tune your ecu you loose all your warranty rights under law. This is also noted by the fact that none of these businesses will give a written warranty for engine or drive train damage to your car. These people and businesses are as bad as phone scammers.

      Both Safari and Unichip give you a written engine and drive train warranty with their product.

      These problems tend to be on the early versions of new engines. It’s not unique to Toyota though. Earlier Y62s had timing chain issues that could blow up your engine. Sadly, I can’t help to think this may be the case with the new 300 series too.
